Gogglebox - how come they can visit family/friends?!

Random thought, just sat watching last nights gogglebox - how come they’re still allowed to visit each other’s houses (those who don’t live together on the show) yet everyone is supposed to be in lockdown and not mixing outside their own household?? Confused

I wondered why the siddiqui brothers were socially distancing, i don’t think they live together.

Sweet if Jenny and Lee moved in together but I don’t think they have. Lee said he still had x in his cupboard and he was going shopping to get more. Then he sort of corrected himself.

The Siddiqui brothers don’t live with their dad. I work right where the dad lives and see him coming and going all the time.

Watched this for the first time today, having only seen the sleb version last year. It did make me smile - the Siddiqui brothers and Sophie and Pete, in particular: the latter reminded me of the rapport between Nick Grimshaw and his niece Liv.

I get really annoyed whenever Mary gets upset and Giles always says "stop crying, no, steady Nutty" or similar and tells her off for crying. If she wants a cry then let her have a bloody cry!

Yes but she gets v easily irritated/ annoyed with Giles yet is emotional over random stuff, we think it’s funny how she goes from normal face to full on crying in a nano second!

I think Mary and Giles are very much a team, they keep each other in line - she calms him down when he gets too giddy and he calms her down when she gets emotional.

The siddiquis are my favourite family but they need to obey the same restrictions as everyone else. If the brothers don't live together, (I presume they don't) they should not be together. Talking about social distancing and sitting apart made it look like they didn't understand the restrictions.

Most of the others seem to have got it right.

I wasn't sure about the mother, daughter and baby either. Do they all live together? If so, fine. If not, they should not be visiting, or perhaps they have all moved in together, for the duration.

The producers need to get this right, in my opinion. It's not one rule for one and a different rule for another.

I suspect most of the tears we see from Mary are for the benefit of the camera as is the reply from Giles.

I agree.

I think they film the Siddiquis at the home of the single brother. I wonder if that's why the producers think it's OK for the other brother to visit - the alternative being he's sat there on his own. Of course, the alternative should be that they don't film at all.

Some talent Mary has then, bursting into tears for what, dramatic effect? They already bring loads to the show, they're hilarious. I don't know why she would make herself cry on purpose Hmm

I can not stand Sophie and Pete nor Stephen.

This week will be interesting to watch.

I have started seeing TV differently now. When I watch things and people are not following the rules it bugs me, even if it's a film from 10 years ago Grin

Lee and Jenny took the decision to move in together for lockdown, so they would not have to go through this alone.

But Lee is married/with partner. So how does that work?

Report
NerrSnerr · 06/04/2020 16:35

@DobbyTheHouseElk probably a decision they made between themselves, whatever they're doing. Maybe his partner is living with them? None of our business is it?

I love gogglebox, I'm glad they've carried on filming. I think if they're filming together they're isolating together

So is Jenny, afaik.
I presume that Jenny and Lee want to continue on being able to take part, so they have to be living together.

I love Jenny and Lee, I’m not criticising them at all. Only wondering how they all fit in the caravan.

I used to love Goggle box a and thought it was really funny. Until I was watching it once and thought that Stephen and his husband were being uneccessarily cruel and nasty. Suddenly it wasn't funny anymore Hmm

I loved Giles and Mary but I did always wonder why the Malones saw fit to have loads of plates of cakes and then sit with their feet on the table next to them Confused

Who would want to be a client at Stephen and husband's hair salon! Stephen is so unnecessarily nasty about his clients, while the husband laughs along.

Report
InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 07/04/2020 20:58

I think Stephen is horrible too and don't like him at all. His husband just seems to be a sap who laughs along with no personality or opinions of his own.

The Malones cakes on their footstool are just grim!

I'm not keen on Mary. She treats Giles like he's something she stepped in! There's something 'off' about them as a couple imo. Stephen is also very unlikeable - he can sometimes be funny but he's too sneery. Love Jenny and Lee and Pete and Sophie and the Malone's. It makes me laugh when the fog is naughty and they call him David instead of Dave!
