Gogglebox - how come they can visit family/friends?!

Random thought, just sat watching last nights gogglebox - how come they’re still allowed to visit each other’s houses (those who don’t live together on the show) yet everyone is supposed to be in lockdown and not mixing outside their own household?? Confused

@Minesacider I hate myself on the rare occasion I laugh at Stephen. He can be funny but he comes across as not a very nice person.

Has anyone watched the Australian version? It was being shown on Ch4 a few months ago and I caught a couple of the L early series. I really got into it and was surprised how much affection I ended up feeling toward some of the families, similar to with the UK cast.

bookmum08 · 03/04/2020 00:26

They have Birmingham accents MrsCastiel

MrsCastiel · 03/04/2020 00:27

Oh bloody hell, of course they do!

My brain is clearly frazzled with being stuck indoors with only a 7yo and a unsociable 16yo for company 😂

PamelaPupkin · 03/04/2020 01:28

Birmingham! Sorry. Pretty sure they’re mother/daughter though? Anyway they’re dull.

4forkssake · 03/04/2020 13:32

Yep. Brummies.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 04/04/2020 09:50

I was a bit worried about Mary last night, she seems so emotional and tearful all the time.

I agree Lee can be horrible to Jenny but I think they do really care about each other.

My favourite part of the Malones is Dave the dog, he cracks me up every time he's on screen!!

Bellagio40 · 04/04/2020 13:15

Dave was hilarious with the face mask last night.

MintyCedric · 04/04/2020 13:23

I love Sophie and Pete...hope if they don't live together they move in for the duration of lockdown.

Like Dave the dog better than most of the Malones.

Will miss Mary and Marina...they're so sweet and funny.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/04/2020 15:03

I love Sophie and Pete too!

Vulgarlady · 04/04/2020 15:12

I really dont like Sophie and Pete. I think
he tries too hard to be funny. Not natural at all

Katinski · 04/04/2020 16:46

I love the stunt pineapple in Shirl and Dave's kitchen.Every week I look, every week i'm not disappointedGrin

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/04/2020 17:30

I've never noticed it before - will have to have a look!

CharityDingle · 04/04/2020 22:10

Sorry. Pretty sure they’re mother/daughter though? Anyway they’re dull.

Yes, and they sit practically on top of one another at all times. I feel claustrophobic just looking at them.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/04/2020 22:19

Me too @CharityDingle - why do they sit like that?

Lurleene · 04/04/2020 22:31

I love Giles and Mary. When we were watching last night DH said he really doesn't get Mary and I said I absolutely did. Then I realised that's because I had married a Giles. Blush

ElspethFlashman · 04/04/2020 22:35

Oh they definitely are told where to sit. It's just for framing.

They all say they sit elsewhere in the room normally.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/04/2020 22:39

I love Mary too @Lurleene

AmericanAdventure · 04/04/2020 22:49

Love Gogglebox but it annoys me that there are no Scottish families???

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/04/2020 23:25

Why? There's no one from Northern Ireland either but no big deal.

MrsCastiel · 05/04/2020 14:54

I'm assuming the lack of NI and Scottish families is because of logistics, with it being a London produced show? They don't go further North than Leeds and the farthest West they go is Cardiff (is that where the Welsh couple live?)

Minesacider · 05/04/2020 17:28

I wonder if the remote access aspect they're trying now might be carried on, for future families being able to join. We could have families from a wider geographical pool in the future?

There's a Scottish family in the kids Gogglebox, but I think they must own a caravan in Blackpool, which is where they film.

4forkssake · 05/04/2020 17:40

@mrscastiel they have 2 families in Durham & had one couple (friends) from South Shields (although I think they only lasted one or 2 series & weren't on that much. So that's the furthest north they went.

I couldn't understand this weeks episode when the Siddiqui brothers & the mum & older daughter (with baby Irwin?) seemed to imply they were socially distancing from each other. Does that mean they don't live together & have just popped over to do the show? The rest seemed to be family so presumably the brother & sister & Lee & Jenny are living together so they can do the show. Also interesting that the Leeds sisters weren't together & presumably the partner took the place.

bookmum08 · 05/04/2020 17:50

I think baby Irwin and his mum live with her mum (and step dad). Step dad wasn't there but I think they just sat in their usual places. I was curious about the Siddiqui brothers too though. Nat - Izzi's fella had a look of 'crap I can't believe she has persuaded me to do this' look on his face. I liked how he cradles their skinny little dog like a baby. What breed is that dog?

bookmum08 · 05/04/2020 17:53

Oops wrong sister. Ellie not Izzi.

MrsCastiel · 05/04/2020 17:54

@4forkssake ah, yes I'd forgotten about the Durham goggleboxers.

@bookmum08 I think Izzi's dogs are Italian Greyhounds.
