I really enjoyed it, although I'm really new to it so still excited about new episodes.

Really would like to slap the English teacher though. Nasty.

Gillian should sell the farm and fuck off round the world with it, leaving miserable Celia and her kitchen behind. She could take Caroline and they'd have a whale of a time.

There. Series 6 sorted Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/03/2020 23:09

Raff looked distinctly sheepish (sorry!) at the end tonight, something going on there. I do think both the NZ girls and the shoplifting boy could disappear and nothing would be lost.

Squigean · 08/03/2020 23:19

He did, didn't he (Raff being sheepish 🐑) like he had something to do with the giraffe.

I am enjoying too, just think it's a shame there no chance of longer development of a story line. There's a lot started but not going anywhere. Caroline's son is a bit surplus.

The80sweregreat · 09/03/2020 06:31

I've not seen last nights yet but it was always hinted in the first series that Celia's late husband was well off / had a good job and left her loads of money. She moved in with Caroline and John in a granny annexe after selling up and made a few bob that way.
Caroline had a lovely house but when her and John split up , it was sold I think.
Alan lived with Gillian after his wife died and they were not as wealthy as the farm been hard to run and make a profit. I wonder if Gill's first husband left her some money?
Alan gets a pension , but that's it.
Caroline thought he was after Celias money at first and was suspicious of his motives!

Cary2012 · 09/03/2020 06:49

Celia, smile! Go on, it won't kill you.

80s, yes she did move in with Caroline in the annexe but it was mentioned that she invested in her daughter's house.

Like glossy, immaculate Nicola Walker in The Split, love sweary, knackered NW in this, her 'Gillian' steals every scene. Loved the stand off with Robbie's ex copper girlfriend.

Could do without the Oliver Twist lad.

Caroline, stop peeling carrots, sort yourself out. Don't have John back, you're better than that.

They've got a lot to sort next week, in one episode.

I thought the runaway boy was going to set fire to the shed. I agree this is a silly story line.

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/03/2020 07:25

Re peeling carrots. She started off cooking for herself, Flora and her son, then the NZ girl turned up, I don't think Gillian was stopping - how many carrots would she have needed? She had loads.

Cary2012 · 09/03/2020 07:59

I thought same Captain! Carrot soup with plenty for leftovers!

Gillian's stop start way of delivering her lines is getting on my nerves.

That's Nicola Walker's acting style for you. Irritating as hell and the same for every character she plays.

Nonnymum · 09/03/2020 08:26

He did, didn't he (Raff being sheepish 🐑) like he had something to do with the giraffe
I think he left the gate open which let the sheep out

Squigean · 09/03/2020 09:26

Yes, actually Nonnyman, that would make more sense!! Seeing he was actually suprised about the giraffe when he saw it.

SoupDragon · 09/03/2020 09:28

That's Nicola Walker's acting style for you. Irritating as hell and the same for every character she plays.

I'm so glad someone else thinks this!!

The80sweregreat · 09/03/2020 09:34

She has always played Gillian like this : the actress does it in other dramas too!

incognitomum · 09/03/2020 10:48

I was disappointed in last night's episode.

I know Celia is supposed to be miserable but she was grating.

I don't really care about anyone in it now. It's getting silly.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/03/2020 11:32

I find Caroline's pseudo 'posh' voice more irritating than Gillian's way of speaking.

lynsey91 · 09/03/2020 12:04

So many story lines and yet only 1 more episode. Seems silly.

I agree they are all annoying this series except Alan. As for that English teacher. I would have given her a good slap. Me and DH laughed when she said to Caroline "you are 50 and I am only 38". We also both said at the same time "well you don't look it"

SoupDragon · 09/03/2020 12:29

That teacher was truly awful!

Patch23042 · 09/03/2020 14:30

There’s too much going on. The runaway kid is superfluous (nothing wrong with the actor, who’s very good).

RedRec · 09/03/2020 14:51

I can't believe how unbelievably shite this series is. With the exception of Alan and Gillian and the Timothy West character, everyone is either very annoying or a ridiculous caricature of a personality trait (or both).
Intensely irritating and unfunny teens, ridiculous traveller girls, ragamuffin / urchin boy, sarky woman police officer...
Celia is vile, Caroline's new 'posh' voice is ridiculous. I could go on and on. Oh and Caroline WAS perving on the English teacher.
I live in the Halifax area so used to like recognising places and references. and even that no longer redeems it for me.

RedRec · 09/03/2020 14:54

... just realised said 'ridiculous' too many times but you get my gist!

The80sweregreat · 09/03/2020 15:27

Just caught up. Ted clearly has the beginning of Alzheimer's or dementia and Judith now deciding she is gay is ridiculous !
I love her house though.
Gillian is good , but the others are a bit silly and it is a bit dull at times as well. Too much chit chat!

The80sweregreat · 09/03/2020 15:38

Caroline isn't very motherly with Flora is she? It's like ' run along dear , have a carrot'😂
Or go to Granny!
The girls are sweet though.

DICarter1 · 09/03/2020 16:10

I wonder why they brought it back. It’s a wonderful series but season 4 was disappointing and this one hasn’t been much better which pains me to say as I love it.

Squigean · 09/03/2020 16:20

What signs of dementia is Ted showing? Several people have mentioned this now, what am in missing!!?

The80sweregreat · 09/03/2020 17:54

Ted is wandering off, forgetful , allowed someone to swindle him out of a lot of money , the nurses helped him as he was vague on the flight to the UK etc.
Dementia starts off with the person not too bad , but doing some odd things and things out of character etc. It gets gradually worse but at the start you can explain away the behaviour a bit as they still seem alright.
When he came home with a Celia he said something about the kitchen so he'd already forgotten it was being ripped out. Short term memory loss can be a sign of something not right.
It might not be , but my elderly dad started off like this but luckily he was not swindled out of any money ( that's all going to a care home to look after him now!)
I could be wrong of course. Might just be his personality and he likes going off out for a walk in the morning etc!
It's sad his lost his money though.
