I think baby will be called Edward

Fivefourthree · 16/03/2020 19:45

If there's another series obviously. I really enjoyed it.

Cary2012 · 16/03/2020 19:57

I enjoyed it.
It wasn't the best series, but I would rather lose myself in Halifax than the real world right now.
Yes, John's "Oh, is Gillian here" was great, also the way Alan and Celia reconnected in the church.
The ending was apt and touching, lovely.
Lot's of loose ends which leaves a sixth series possible. Please SW, write another series.
Loved the way Gillian eyed up the kitchen fitter, the way Alan's phone rang, and someone said, "think it's you" which happens in every series. Nice that Gillian and Robbie's ex almost tolerated each other.
Loved seeing Caroline and Gillian at the disco.

Enjoyed it. Agree, a lot of threads left hanging, so hopefully another series. Shall miss it.

Harrison - Liam McCheyne, what a fantastic young actor.

Flusteredcustard · 16/03/2020 23:06

@diddl think they didn't go to Brid on the train because it takes over 3 hours from Hebden Bridge [it looked like Hebden Bridge station anyway] and most of the journeys need 2 changes, and he'd have got lost in Leeds station, on his own, heck even I sometimes get lost on Leeds station, he needed taking there, also there would have been more chance of him being 'found' before he got there, and well he needed to get there didn't he. Such moving scenes when he did get there. Even if it wasn't full-blown dementia he was certainly rather yonderly which doesn't seem uncommon towards the end. He had managed to sort out travel and get himself back to England, even if he needed help at the airport
I've enjoyed all the series [I missed the earlier ones and had to watch on catch up to get the most out of the series I did watch]. I had either a family or friends connection to almost all the places, it was set in, including Brid. Some have said about it being a bit far fetched, but thinking about some of the things that have happened to me and the family, not far fetched at all [but no murder, just an understanding of why she'd do it., no faux Banksy] At one particular time in my life, I thought that if what was happening had been put into a soap opera, people would think that it was far fetched, but sadly it was real. I liked how it showed that often things in the past that you thought were long ago forgotten, still have consequences, and your life can be turned upside down by learning something from years ago which had been hidden. And what an ending

diddl · 17/03/2020 08:28

Yes I was supposing that realistically trains wouldn't work.

The young boy was very good, wasn't he?

So I've forgotten-did Gillian murder Eddie-as in she actually struck him with something-or was it that she didn't call for help soon enough so left him to die?

Fivefourthree · 17/03/2020 09:15

She did kill him. She admitted it to both Caroline and Robbie.

diddl · 17/03/2020 09:34

Yes I know she admitted it but couldn't remember if it was because she said she'd delayed calling the ambulance, knowing that he wouldn't survive, or if she'd actually caused the injuries to him.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/03/2020 11:06

No, the delaying the ambulance was what she told her Dad, which is why he thought of it as manslaughter. He didn't attempt suicide at all, it was completely her.

KayakingOnDown · 17/03/2020 18:25

.

Squigean · 17/03/2020 19:37

I enjoyed it. Thought it redeemed itself in the last episode.

Do you think they are going to make the English teacher the abuser?

SkaLaLand · 17/03/2020 19:41

I actually enjoyed this series. It was like a little snapshot into the characters lives 5 years on.

I particularly like how it was brought back to Celia and Alan at the very end who after all are the main characters.

Cary2012 · 17/03/2020 19:45

Yes Ska, it went full circle. Episode one of series one was about Celia and Alan getting together after all those lost years and it ended with those two reconnecting after their "7 year itch".??

I cried at the end when Celia & Alan danced to “ Time After Time”. So lovely. I think Anne Reid & Derek Jacobi are wonderful actors. And another vote for Harrison - he has a huge future in acting!

dottypotter · 19/03/2020 15:56

Dear Sally Wainwright,

The story is going downhill. The boy driving the car is a joke there is no way that would have happened. They would have been spotted and pulled over.

The swearing is ugly and unecessary you dont have to add loads of swearing to make it good just like a good comedian dosent need to swear.

Sojo88 · 20/03/2020 17:07

I thought Gillian said she was keeping the farm? Though wasn't sure how.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention but how exactly did Ted die? I thought maybe he'd try going into the sea when he was hallucinating his young wife, but that didn't appear to happen.

Also why did Raff feel so guilty about the painting on the barn? It caused his mum some stress and bother, but he was talking about offering her his savings but it's not like he did her out of money really - she didn't seem that excited at the time that the painting would make any money.

SoupDragon · 20/03/2020 17:09

I think that, in the church scene, Alan said to Celia about giving Gillian the money.

SoupDragon · 20/03/2020 17:10

I think Ted "just died". Heart attack I assumed. I don't think he went into the sea, it just looked like he'd slumped down off the breakwater.

Sojo88 · 20/03/2020 17:27

I hope it was a heart attack - cos that suggests he would've died even if he'd been at home, and not that the day out caused his death.

Alan did say they'd offer Gillian the money but I don't think she'd have accepted it? I think she said how she's keeping the farm but I wasn't paying attention maybe...

Bowednotbroken · 22/03/2020 10:51

Sojo88 - Raff felt guilty as the painting meant people came to see it, left the gate open, the sheep got out causing all that damage and losing Gillian £600.

Did anyone else feel nostalgic for a slice of life pre-CV19? I mean, going to a hotel for a nice weekend feels impossibly archaic now!!

Like PP I loved that last episode - is that it for ever now? Too many loose ends to let it go completely.

I live nearby and loved the scenery and glimpses of familiar places, but very disappointed to realise it's actually in Lancashire, being Yorkshire born and bred. 😄

Oh of course! Thanks so much, I'd totally forgotten that.

LTIH is a lovely form of escapism, I agree - lovely just to get lost in that world for a while!

Did anyone else feel nostalgic for a slice of life pre-CV19? I mean, going to a hotel for a nice weekend feels impossibly archaic now!!. I went for a walking weekend in Yorkshire for my birthday at the beginning of March. It almost seems like another life now.

DICarter1 · 22/03/2020 15:31

I keep watching shows and thinking why aren’t they socially isolating. It’s weird to think that going out used to be life but now it’s a luxury. Same as going to get the food I wanted.

Thank goodness its not just me! Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/03/2020 17:54

I keep thinking of it as 'the olden days'.
