Cant get in to this series. All the know it all kids are just irritating. Gillian shouldnt be trying to cadge money from a bloke in his 80s and they've all just become moe unpleasant and caricatures of themselves. Most disappointed in Caroline.

S0upertrooper · 08/03/2020 00:24

@Blackiebooboo is the giraffe still there?

S0upertrooper · 08/03/2020 00:33

I think Celia's character was modeled on my late MIL who threatened to not attend our wedding because her sister's grandson was not invited. MIL worked in a primary school and had a very close relationship with the HT who was clearly gay. They had a big falling out and I often wonder if MIL was oblivious to HT's sexuality and was horrified when she eventually found out. Either that or she wasn't oblivious and they had a lover's tiff.

I thought the teacher Caroline invited for dinner was equally interested in her and was really surprised at her reaction.

BlackieBooBoo · 08/03/2020 06:27

No the giraffe is not there now.
My Dad said they made a plywood frame and stuck that on the wall and painted on it.
He got to keep it afterwards and chopped it up for firewood.

ageingdisgracefully · 08/03/2020 08:25

Celia does seem to have become more selfish and irritating. I can't see anything wrong with her kitchen. A bit dated maybe, but she could easily paint or change the doors...

The car is in good nick though. Wonder if it's the same one? It looks a bit darker to me.

Must cost a fortune to run.

diddl · 08/03/2020 12:32

What was wrong with Ted-was anything said?

Also Caroline & Celia in the car with the nurses(?) & Celia was struggling to remember.

Seemed a bit pointed?

I can't help thinking that the kitchen thing is ridiculous.

Couldn't Celia just have been pissed off that Gillian wanted money?

ageingdisgracefully · 08/03/2020 14:03

I don't think they said what, if anything, was wrong with Ted. He must be getting on now though?

I got the impression that Celia had mentioned wanting the kitchen before Gillian asked.

The80sweregreat · 08/03/2020 14:11

Celia said about the kitchen to Alan in the first episode then Gillian saw her dad and told him about the woodworm or whatever needs thousands to sort out! He promised to speak to Celia about it , but he didn't.
Later on they met up for a meal at the farm and it was brought up again. Celia went all nasty about it! The new kitchen is going to cost 20k or something and Gillian needs 5 or 6 !

Cary2012 · 08/03/2020 14:22

Beccaboo, my prediction is that Ruth will try and get Caroline in trouble at work, I think she's unhinged and could be nasty.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Ted but the scene in the car with Caroline and the two nurses made me wonder if there was something in the pipeline for Celia. She was very forgetful and wasn't really following the conversation either.

StSaulOfSnacks · 08/03/2020 14:39

In the trailer for tonight, Ruth was getting personal, all "why would I be interested in you, have you seen yourself?" rather than saying "as my boss, you acted unprofessionally". Could be a bunny boiler.

diamonddandelions · 08/03/2020 14:48

My Dad said they made a plywood frame and stuck that on the wall and painted on it. He got to keep it afterwards and chopped it up for firewood.

But it's a Banksy! Grin

Squigean · 08/03/2020 15:36

@ageingdisgracefully pretty sure it's the same car, as Ted, when giving the boy from the supermarket a lift home, mentioned that it had lost value now they'd had it several years.

diddl · 08/03/2020 15:43

Oh sorry, about the kitchen-it just seems a silly storyline to me.

If Gillian had asked for 5k, Celia could have been annoyed/angry about it anyway, whether or not a new kitchen was in the offing..

Is it just to show Celia being silly with money (presume that they didn't need bespoke)?

Just seems pointless to me.

LuluJakey1 · 08/03/2020 20:07

Is this going to be the last series? If so, I am expecting one of them-Alan probably- to die.

outofyourhand · 08/03/2020 21:10

The kid hanging around Alan is the most irritating storyline.

outofyourhand · 08/03/2020 21:35

And Sarah Lancashire needs to lose the bob.

CatherineCawood · 08/03/2020 21:37

Sgt Cawood got a mention!!!!

LuluJakey1 · 08/03/2020 22:06

It is all a bit unbelievable this series- everything is at the edge of believability:
Judith generally as a character
Judith and Caroline
Robbie's ex, the Police Officer and the way she behaves
Caroline's son and how he lives
The two NZ girls?????
Ted spending 1.5 million on Angelina
Gillian and the Banksy and the sheep
Where do Alan and Celia get all their money from? A Lexus, a bungalow, a new kitchen - he worked in a factory and she stayed at home. How do they have all this cash?
It is watchable but has lost its connectivity- it's a series of more diffuse stories that don't really knit . There is only one episode left I think.

Doggyperson · 08/03/2020 22:10

I thought the police officer was the best part of to tonights episode and I bet there are officers like her.
Otherwise I was a bit bored and I'm not too bothered what happens to any of then really.

unique1986 · 08/03/2020 22:16

The fact that it only 4 episodes shows that you can't really get into the series anyway because over next week.

unique1986 · 08/03/2020 22:17

It's ok but I feel like it's barely scratched the surface.

Squigean · 08/03/2020 22:17

Think it's probably down to there only being four episodes. Not enough time to build anything.

Sarcelle · 08/03/2020 22:24

Really not as gripping as normal. Gillian's stop start way of delivering her lines is getting on my nerves.

mum2jakie · 08/03/2020 22:35

I enjoyed the Judith/Caroline/John love triangle but found the sheep incident - why would they randomly stumble across abandoned cannabis plants - and the young lad silly storylines.
