My Dad is almost giddy over his farm being used.

Cary2012 · 03/03/2020 15:20

I reckon between us we could write a few more episodes! Wink

Oh yes, 8 would be fab.

DICarter1 · 03/03/2020 15:45

I’m up for writing a few more. It must be tricky to stretch it. I see Happy Valley is also being filmed (did she write that too?)

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 03/03/2020 15:47

Yes SW wrote Happy Valley too.

Dozer · 03/03/2020 15:48

Not enjoying at all.

Inappropriate behaviour by Caroline.

Dozer · 03/03/2020 15:49

The actor playing her ex is great at playing hang dog man regretting his life choices!

DICarter1 · 03/03/2020 16:04

@Dozer whilst it didn’t look great as I suspect she hoped Ruth would like her I didn’t think it was terrible. Ruth planned to get drunk and get a taxi which seems more inappropriate.

WhatKatyDidNot · 03/03/2020 16:27

I'm feeling it's a bit flat too. The Banksy mural was daft but at least injected some much-needed silliness.

Dozer · 03/03/2020 16:31

That’s true, but Caroline is more senior so the invitation was an issue in the first place.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 03/03/2020 16:34

Blackie - did your dad get approached for the filming?

Well if SW has run out of material I suppose this will be the final series Sad I hope not.

I can’t see how Alan & Celia’s relationship issues will get resolved in the next 2 episodes.

Also if (& this is my supposition- it’s nothing I’ve seen anywhere) it is the last series I don’t get why they have introduced Ruth as a not love interest?

BlackieBooBoo · 03/03/2020 18:26

Yes he was asked by the production company. I think they have people who go out looking for locations.

The barn was also used for a scene in World in Fire.

DICarter1 · 03/03/2020 19:02

@BlackieBooBoo he doesn’t fancy running retreats for Last Tango in Halifax fans does he?!

Cary2012 · 03/03/2020 19:48

Blackie, does your dad have to move out when they film?
I love the location.

OP posts:
CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 04/03/2020 07:41

It’s stunning isn’t it?

BlackieBooBoo · 04/03/2020 08:14

He doesn't have to move out. They don't film the inside scenes there so he just goes about his business.

lazymum99 · 04/03/2020 09:25

Didn’t realise it was only 4 episodes. Can’t see how the story lines can go deep enough in such a short time. Celia complaining all the time is really bugging me. She is whining. I love Alan.
I would not have been so accommodating to the couple of young New Zealander’s. very odd that they flew from Hong Kong to Doncaster as well

Squigean · 04/03/2020 09:33

Think he was supposed to fly to a london airport first then, get a connection to Doncaster.

Evidently the two nurses bought their internal flights once they landed in London from Hong Kong.

Did think it was unfair that Alan and brother left the airport with two empty seats in their car, then went for a leisurely drink and shop, leaving Celia with two strangers she neither caused to be there or wanted to have to entertain.

The logistics from the airport made no sense!!

Plus Clamity and Flora's ages still doesn't seem to be fitting. It's like they are now making out they are the same age.

Squigean · 04/03/2020 09:34

I was supposed to have a sceptical face after my "Evidently the two nurses bought their internal flights once they landed in London from Hong Kong."

PelicanPie · 04/03/2020 10:04

I think they’re setting it up for the HOE to start a campaign against Caroline. Also they’re obviously a angling for Caroline to get back with her ex.
The most interesting person in it now is the shop lifting boy. It’s just tiresome and silly .

originalcobra · 04/03/2020 11:11

'I was a bit shocked at Ruths reaction to Caroline saying she was gay, she didn't make a pass at her. Perhaps Ruth will blackmail her to get a promotion.'

I wasn't. lost over half my 'friends' when I came out, mostly the female ones. I doubt there's a gay person on the planet hasn't had a similar reactions from friends, families, colleagues. So the writing is SPOT on there.
Still, her reaction was so immediate it reminds me more of the people who appear to be incredibly homophobic because they're actually struggling with their own sexuality... £50 says this is the route they go down if they continue with Ruth as a character rather than false sexual harassment allegations.

I hope they don't go down the fake harassment route, it's one of the biggest tv tropes for LGBT storylines, and Sally Wainwright has already used the biggest one before - "Bury Your Gays' where the LGBT character gets randomly killed off for no apparent reason/just after they come out/or at any point of 'happiness'. Can't tell you how many shows in the world have had the lesbian character die on or just after/before their bloody wedding day!
Realistically what would happen is the teacher chick would spend the rest of their working lives together being awkward and uncomfortable as hell...

originalcobra · 04/03/2020 11:15

'Also they’re obviously angling for Caroline to get back with her ex.'

Are they??? Would she do that? He's an absolute arse, I hope not. There's zero chemistry between them.
Plus, she says she's gay not bi so would be a bit weird for her to go back to a fella after a later in life coming out.

Bibidy · 04/03/2020 11:28

It's such a shame they killed off Kate in the way they did, it's sort of left Caroline's character without direction.

Celia has been really horrible so far this series, no redeeming features at all.

unique1986 · 04/03/2020 11:34

Yep I liked Kate and the actress. Very odd and horrible decision.
Did we even see her get killed in car accident on screen? Or was it off screen?

unique1986 · 04/03/2020 11:35

Seemed very unlikely.
