Starts tomorrow at 9. Any fans around?

I don't know if it was in the script or just Nicola Walker's acting but the constant stop starting during every sentence was very annoying.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/02/2020 18:18

That's the way she is in pretty much everything!

MollyButton · 27/02/2020 19:20

I think Christie was a bit of a fantasist. He had built Hannah up as the "one who got away", which is why his marriage had failed. And he didn't like the strong bonds Hannah had to her own family and life.
And if he'd really wanted Hannah surely he would have made a move before the night before her wedding. Wasn't he and Hannah sharing a flat?

Bringringbring12 · 27/02/2020 20:36

Her reaction to when she saw the ring.... truly brilliant acting

I miss it!

Mooserp · 28/02/2020 08:03

Ginger - yes I find that annoying too. I saw her doing it on another programme and thought she'd chosen that affliction for that character, but I think it's just what she always does.

I don't think it suits a character like this who is meant to be so successful professionally.

BoucleEponine · 28/02/2020 09:33

The Moot Court thing was odd - 5 law partners and 2 barristers whose combined hourly billing rate would be about £2million (might be exaggerating a teeny bit) and only about 20 law students show up?

Yes, I know it's not real ....

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 28/02/2020 14:46

I didn’t like it. You don’t sleep with your clients. Nicola walker who I used to love is NW in everything she does. Just didn’t like her character & also in parts I felt Christie was stalking her.

Also in all my time as a family solicitor- & I did mainly DV never once did I get threatened by a husband/partner. If I had been I’d have gone straight to his solicitor & probably the judge if it went to court. I’d also have sacked any client if they’d done similar to the opposing side.

But I love the clothes & the houses!

Aoibhie · 01/03/2020 00:13

Really enjoyed series 2, however disappoited at how hannah treated christy at the end. I bet series 3 will kick off with Maggie dating christy and nathan having an affair with Rose!!!!

Itsashame · 01/03/2020 08:50

Whilst I loved the series I couldn’t stand Nicola walkers way of speaking. The constant stop starting, as if she was thinking what to say next (I assume she wanted to come across not that she was reciting lines but went far too far imo) did my head in. A barrister in court would have much more control over what they were saying, she came across like she was unprepared and winging it every time she spoke.

Bringringbring12 · 01/03/2020 09:26

She wasn’t a barrister

My best friend is a senior partner at a magic circle firm. The youngest this firm ever made partner.

She is human! With foibles and shortcomings. One of which is she that she tends to stop start in a similar manner to Nicola walkers way of speaking. Whilst it doesn’t always appear corporate slick it actually represents fact that everything she says is carefully thought and considered. She is formidably successful and well regarded.

Similarly, my boss - very senior, very powerful and well regarded. He has a very serious stutter as a child and whilst you wouldn’t know it know - he know hesitates, pauses, stops and starts. It’s a tactic for overcoming his stutter.

It is a TV myth that very successful professionals are these slick perfect humans! The most successful people can still have evident shortcomings and so I think it added to the realism of the show

ooglyboogly1 · 01/03/2020 09:33

I loved it. I disliked Hannah intensely at the end. I think she massively played both men. I thought both series were superb. Brilliant acting and real depth. All the sub plots. Hoping for a third series. Also loved the houses and clothes. Me and DH laugh at how unrealistic it all is though. He's a partner at a good corporate law firm. He doesn't have his own office with floor to ceiling windows. He hot desks. We don't have a massive pad in London. I tut at him and ask him where it all went wrong Grin Also why isn't their au pair/nanny shown. I mean they both work long hours and have three kids and an immaculate house. When is all the shit done? Maybe the au pair could be brought in for a sub plot in series three (here hoping)

Itsashame · 01/03/2020 10:53

Bring yes but I still think she over did it 😉

Bringringbring12 · 01/03/2020 11:16

Really? My friend has an office.
More very very important in legal firms for confidentiality reasons.

BehindTheGreenDoor · 01/03/2020 11:35

Wow bringbringbring12 that’s really impressive about your friend!

I agree about being the one that got away. I think if Hannah hadn’t got married they could have had a relationship, it maybe wouldn’t have worked out and then they could have both moved on.

I wonder if Hannah became almost like a second parent when their dad left - presumably the mum was working all hours. The way she drops everything for Nina and Rose - I think she feels she has to be the responsible one - get married, have career and settle down with children. And she thought Nathan fitted better with that.

I loved it - I thought the second series was better than the first. The mother was a much more likeable and charming character than in the first series but Rose drove me mad.

I love Christie but I was rooting for poor Nathan at the end. The scene with the children in the restaurant was utterly heartbreaking.

I was very distracted by Nicola Walker's fabulous watch.

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 01/03/2020 14:45

The very careful pausing way of speaking is a lawyer thing. It’s because they want to make sure each nuance they say is the right one!

DurhamDurham · 01/03/2020 22:04

Nicola Walker speaks like that in every part she plays. I like her and she's in some good stuff but she always speaks in a faltering way with irregular short pauses. I'm used to it now Smile

JediJim · 01/03/2020 22:49

I missed the first series when it was originally on so just binged watched the whole of series 1 and 2 on BBC iplayer!
Blimey, I didn’t realise that on iplayer you can watch episodes that haven’t been on tv yet, I thought it was to watch shows that have already been on! It’s still being broadcast but the spoilers have already been revealed on here anyway!

Thought it was a great series. One thing that didn’t seem realistic though was the Tyler and Xander ( or Zander?) relationship. And wasn’t his name Alex Hale? Why did they call him Zander? I must have missed something. But he was an intelligent, mature solicitor, I found it odd that he would go to the USA and meet Tyler and after a few months marry him. Didn’t quite fit his character but I think Tyler was added to the mix to bring together the other story lines.
It was obvious that Tyler and the sister had a chemistry together from the start too. Also the mother ( who knew everything) said that she’d give their relationship a week before ending, ( or words to that effect) so she probably knew that Tyler wasn’t really genuine.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/03/2020 22:55

It's only a recent thing @JediJim, presumably to keep up with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 01/03/2020 23:05

@JediJim I assume his name is Alexander so can be called either Alex or Xander depending on who he's talking to / how he feels.

JediJim · 01/03/2020 23:14

I thought it ended quite sadly too. When Nathan broke the news to the kids in the restaurant was heart breaking. And quite realistic too I thought.
Not sure that there will be a series 3 , as I can’t see how the story line would continue from how it ended.

AuntieMaggie · 02/03/2020 09:24

Finished series 2 last night - liked it but not as much as the first. I liked Nathan more this series and what he said to the kids in the restaurant about why they were breaking up made me cry. I liked Christie in the first series but not this one. I guessed something would happen with Nina and Tyler early on as he was paying her so much attention.

And as for the DNA results - what was the point in that bit if she was just going to throw them away?! I half expected someone else like Hannah to find them.

bluerad · 02/03/2020 22:44

Any idea what the haunting song was at the end of tonight's episode. It was about wasting and was beautiful.
