I completely agree @Gwenhwyfar

She was in love with Christie, but conflicted, knowing that Nathan was the one who was ready for marriage and children.

It's more complicated than that surely, she went home afterwards and intended to leave with Christie, her mother stopped her from going by insisting on cooking her breakfast and then everyone was there and it was too late to back out. The mother knows everything and she has all along.

Dozer · 19/02/2020 07:40

She was only early 20s, had no need to marry so young, had the option at any time to dump Nathan and have a relationship with Christie.

Her decision to go ahead and marry was not her mother’s fault! Her mother clearly didn’t help, but Hannah was an adult and could’ve stopped the wedding.

Dozer · 19/02/2020 07:41

Then the abortion afterwards. The whole marriage was based on lies.

happilybemused · 19/02/2020 08:22

That ending had me in bits. I'm not even a particularly emotional person Blush

I'm not saying it was her mother's fault, im saying that she never chose Nathan, she wanted to leave with Christie but couldn't turn down the full fry up breakfast her mother cooked 😁

Dozer · 19/02/2020 10:24

Ha ha, yes, that was her mistake! Should’ve had a continental breakfast at her lover’s place instead!

Not watched the last two yet as don’t like sad TV much! My mum watched the portrait artist show last night and was pleased so see Stephen Mangan looking cheerier!

happinessischocolate · 19/02/2020 10:29

The last 2 are sad but it's the right ending, it's ends in a good note.

I loved this series. I think it was an improvement on the first series. I can understand why it ended that way but it wasn't what I wanted, I would have liked them to stay together. They would have, if she hadn't blurted out about sleeping with Christie the night before the wedding. It was like a deliberate sabotage of reconciliation as soon as she saw it was a possibility.

I found Nina's hair distracting. She's beautiful and plays the role perfectly but her hair was gelled back in a strange manner. The kiss was awesome though - they had chemistry right from the start.

When Rose said she had a nannying job looking after 3 children I had wondered for a minute if it would end up being the Hansen's nanny, since theirs had left. Maybe that would be too corny and maybe that's why I'm not a scriptwriter...

MarshaBradyo · 19/02/2020 19:38

I found Hannah so annoying. Her acting and the story line.

Christie was good looking in series 1 but I found his soppiness off putting and wet in s2.

Pretty much all the characters annoyed me. Donna Air was quite good.

MarshaBradyo · 19/02/2020 19:43

And how could he have hung around like such a limpet for so long waiting for Hannah. Good looking guy could have found someone else.

Nathan was soppy too, except at the end when he got cross the only time he had any appeal.

happinessischocolate · 19/02/2020 20:05

He hasn't been "hanging round" all that time, he was back in her life as they were now working for the same firm, and he'd been married and divorced. His ex wife referred to her as "oh you're that Hannah" so she'd never met her whilst they were married, his obsession with her would come from the fact that she was the one who got away.

happinessischocolate · 19/02/2020 20:09

These two statements say a lot more about you, than they say about the "The Split" 😁

MarshaBradyo · 19/02/2020 20:10

Lol sure. What a numpty.

MarshaBradyo · 19/02/2020 20:13

Reading back I see others don’t get the obsession in Hannah. I agree.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/02/2020 20:20

Didn't Christie's ex-wife make an appearance, pregnant (not with his baby), in season 1?

BehindTheGreenDoor · 19/02/2020 20:30

Yes she did Queen. I think she said that Christie hadn’t wanted children with her, but would have had them with Hannah.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/02/2020 20:56

I did think Hannah was a bit unfair on Christie in their last scene together, basically saying he wasn't much more than a good shag, when he'd given up so much for her.

BehindTheGreenDoor · 19/02/2020 21:14

Totally agree, initially I wanted them together but he deserves someone better.

I'm just starting episode 2 - my thoughts:

Hannah is definitely punching above her weight with Christie.

The young sister (Rose) is so infantile. And her husband is seriously unattractive.

I definitely think the Junior Solicitor is going to betray Hannah and reveal her affair because she's annoyed at being treated like the office junior.

Middle sister looks SO cheap! More like a dodgy estate agent than a solicitor.

ChanChanChan · 20/02/2020 14:16

Just binged and rewatched all of series 1 yesterday (slow half term here!)

Really good to see it all from the beginning, how they came to be like this in series 2.

But although I love NW and think she's done a great job with the character, actually in the end her indecisiveness and greed really hurt both Christie and Nathan.

I think for Christie and Hannah, they were "the one that got away" for each other. So they were always going to leftover feelings for each other, which wasn't fair of Hannah towards Nathan.

But then of course Nathan's prostitute fling was pretty unforgivable - but does that mean it gave Hannah justification to have an affair of her own? And she really did behave badly towards Christie.

I like that they're all so beautiful and "have it all" but life is still messy for them.

MissEliza · 20/02/2020 15:14

I've just finished and I have to say the ending had me in tears. Hannah screwed up and she knew it. Nathan did the right thing for himself although I think it's such a shame to see him having to leave his kids.
The acting by the older daughter was really impressive for someone that age.

hairquestions2019 · 21/02/2020 07:23

Thought it was an excellent series. Father of Nina's baby is welcome light relief! I hope he sticks around if there's a 3rd.

But as for Hannah and Nathan. Well. Couldn't have waited one more day to tell the dc they were splitting? - no, had to go and ruin the elder daughter's big night by making the announcement in the wine bar immediately after her amazing performance. Oh, and Hannah was over-confiding and leaning on the elder daughter (wish I could remember her name). Very unimpressed with those dparents.

I think the moral is if you're slept with someone else the night before the wedding it's probably best to call it off.

Dozer · 21/02/2020 07:31

Yes, that was a shit parenting choice to tell the DC in a public place, after the eldest’s excellent spanish thin, and Hannah leading on the eldest like that.

As with the first series Hannah and Nathan apparently had no childcare or domestic help and never seemed to have to do any after school parenting, or domestic work. Could just do as they wished before and after work.

Dozer · 21/02/2020 07:32

Hannah was mean to Christie, really nasty.

Comedy man remained comically idiotic. Hot kiss with Nina/Xander!
