I binged the whole thing whilst thinking I wasn't actually sure that I liked it. I felt like that about series 1 too. But obviously something keeps me watching. Just not sure what. It's not bad or anything I just can't decide if I like it or if I'm just hoping something happens. I liked the storyline with the famous couple and Nicola Walker is excellent. Also thought the young actor playing Liv really stood out as a brilliant actor. Think she's one to watch.

I also quite fancy Stephen Mangan in this but nothing else. Think it's the three piece suits.

mizu · 14/02/2020 07:27

Just finished and wanted a different ending although of course this was more real. Cried as there was so much hurt everywhere and that scene in the restaurant when they were talking about spending time apart to the kids!

Loved Steven Mangan in this and agree with past poster that he was a much more attractive character in this series.

I loved Nicola in this too, think she has the most amazing eyes, seemed to change colour depending on what she wore. And yes, she looks her age. And? She is one of those women whose face lights up when she smiles.

Loved all the women in it actually, especially Rose.

Beautiful to watch. Think their kitchen is bigger than our entire flat!!!!!

Oblomov20 · 14/02/2020 11:05

I too binge watched the whole of series 2, in 1 sitting, and then watched the whole of series 1, having not seen it before.

Actually it's made me really sad. what a vile existence. what a shit quality of life.

Hannah's husband says to her : I'm a liar, but your a worse liar. Your whole life is a fraud. Ain't that the truth!

She's so emotionally dysfunctional and closed off. So damaged. What a shame.

And she is a top lawyer, him a barrister, but she is Late to everything, hates Going on holiday and it ruins every one of her holidays but she can't leave her work behind. No friends. She comes home in the dark, and nibbles on a cake/muffin.

Apart from the french evening, we never see her eating a family evening meal.

God her clothes are to die for. Her shoes.....

BUT, What's shit quality of life, for a top lawyer and Barrister husband.

Sad

She's a sex symbol? Hannah? I don't mean the actress, I mean the fictional character of Hannah herself?

She has both Nathan and Christie totally obsessed with her? Why? Seriously why?

I don't get it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2020 11:41

The character isn't meant to be a 'sex symbol' she's an attractive, intelligent, successful woman. What's not to like? Is that not believable to you because she isn't botoxed and he's conventionally good looking ( not in my eyes, I much prefer Nathan's looks)

Oblomov20 · 14/02/2020 12:03

MrsP, I didn't see her as a sex symbol. I was referring to a pp why said that.

And I specifically said the fictional character, NOT the actress.

As an aside, I like the fact the actress is natural, not botox'ed,: I do think she's actually very attractive but that's not the point. that is actually the whole point I'm not making .

I'm NOT referring to the fact the actress is attractive. I'm questioning why the fictional character of Hannah, makes both Christie and Nathan so completely obsessed with her.

I can't understand how you didn't get that/ misconstrued?

Hmm
Oblomov20 · 14/02/2020 12:08

She has no friends. Emotionally turned off/damaged. Barely speaks. She's more like a man. Bright. Powerful. Clinical.

Maybe that's the attraction?

Maybe it's that Nathan and Christie thinks she needs saving? However they end up being what her target was: unfaithful, unreliable.

Is there a series 3? How could there be? Hasn't the natural story run its course?

Oblomov20 · 14/02/2020 12:18

Stephen Magnan is funny. I actually thought he was a comic/comedian rather than an actor.

I liked him in Bliss: he was a travel writer who lived a double life. Then his son from one marriage and his daughter from the other marriage met and started dating!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2020 12:26

I'm questioning why the fictional character of Hannah, makes both Christie and Nathan so completely obsessed with her

And that's what I responded to.

I think series 3 will be about Rose's father, Hannah and Nathan and will they/ won't they get back together. Xander and new husband and whether new husband will fleece him for everything he's got and the potential love triangle with the middle sister ( forgotten her name!)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2020 12:27

I remember SM from Green Wing.

BehindTheGreenDoor · 14/02/2020 14:30

For me I don’t think Nathan is obsessed with her, but she’s his wife of 20 years, the mother of his kids and he loves her.

I think Christie is obsessed with the idea of Hannah, the one he knew in his youth. Because to still want her back even though she didn’t run away with him 20 years ago, aborted (potentially) his baby without telling him and then chose Nathan again after the affair is pretty unhealthy! He needs to be on the relationships board.

Also he may have grown into his looks, as men often do. So they may have been more evenly matched at 20.

This is way too much analysis Blush

AppleYumYum · 14/02/2020 15:06

I like that analysis Behindthegreendoor Smile

AppleYumYum · 14/02/2020 15:15

What I misunderstood at the end of Series 1 was that I thought Nathan had implied that "whatever you are going through" sort it out (i.e: do what you need to do with Christie) but come back to me.

Also at the end of Series 1 her whole family were standing outside the house with the ambulance knowing she wasn't in her bed, and that Christie had dropped her home. So at first this new series I thought surely it's not a secret, maybe keep it on the down-low at work of course.

BehindTheGreenDoor · 14/02/2020 15:41

Thanks Apple! Yes I thought that too re Nathan at the end of S1.

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2020 15:42

I agree Behindthegreendoor Nathan loves her. His anniversary speech

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2020 15:44

I loved them smoking the joint on the back stepsGrin

AppleYumYum · 14/02/2020 16:23

I found myself feeling sorry for Christie at the end, he was working there first, now has to go before he's pushed (ok shagging Fi didn't help his cause), didn't go to Chicago for her, things going so well he gives he keys to his place, she said she loves him, the sex is better, then she was so rude to him at the batchelor party, and you could sense his complete bewilderment at it all. Blush I'm getting too involved!

I thought there was going to be issues with Tyler going through their emails and billing, that the made up "Grayling" client who paid no money would come up or the emails not deleted at Christie's end would be found.

I also couldn't understand why she thought Maggie needed another year, she seemed to always be doing a great job in both series. Though I'm no lawyer!

Oblomov20 · 14/02/2020 16:59

I too like Maggie and was cross that Hannah was so dismissive, not taking to Zander twice, you need another year, there's nothing I can do!

And James. How can you not like James?

BehindTheGreenDoor · 14/02/2020 17:26

Yes I’d forgotten about Chicago! She really didn’t treat him well.

I did find Zander’s marriage hard to believe - I want you to investigate my fiancé and I want a pre-nup but then I find him to be a liar and possibly a criminal but hey it’s love! Hmm

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2020 17:43

I just done believe Xander wouldn't have a pre nip as a divorce lawyer, it's nonsense.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2020 17:44

**don't

PsychoWiener · 14/02/2020 22:20

Just finished watching. I loved it. I love Nicola Walker in everything though, she's so captivating to watch. Bawled like a baby at the end, the scene in the restaurant and episode 4 or 5, can't remember which but the scene when Hannah came home and her book and keys to Christie's were on the side. They didn't say anything but look of pain on Nathan's face was heart wrenching.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/02/2020 22:40

WTF NIna and Tyler?? TBF I did sense some chemistry between the two but told myself it was my imagination!

I liked Christie in the last series bit sleeping with their client was a step too far, especially considering how vulnerable she was. And he was totally unrepentant too.

turnedabout · 14/02/2020 22:50

Her legal cases - she always represents the ' goodie' - which is easy to be the triumphant justice is done in the end message. It's more realistic if she also had to represent the 'baddie' eg the cheating alcoholic controlling terrible partner. Lawyers don't always get to choose to be on the goodie side.

The love triangle- if it was a male character who slept with another woman the night before his wedding, went to work in the same office then took up an affair with her after 20 years and 3 kids---- I don't think we would be so forgiving and romantic about it. We would be shouting at the tv for the wife to chuck him out, leave him immediately, he can't be trusted , the betrayal is unforgivable. If she took him back i we would be horrified by her accepting the line of 'oh but your my wife and I've always loved you more then that other person'. Despite that we will all be willing Steven mangan to forgive her and move back into his married life, putting it all behind him.

OnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 15/02/2020 11:25

In the first seres Hannah was poised to represent Goldie's husband, but when she was clear that she'd be fair he decided to jump ship. In s2 you could argue that Fi only used Hannah's firm because she knew Hannah as a "good guy", so I think that "only representing the goodies" is warranted at this point.
