What is going on with Mother Mildreds make up?

I love Fred & Violet. I like how she’s the councillor & someone the locals look up to. He’s also features in the books & for that alone I’d keep him in.

I never entirely trust Violet and I’m not sure why. Wasn’t she resistant to Reggie joining them at the beginning? Maybe that’s why, but I’ve only been watching it for 3 years or so.

I thinkViolet is a bit curtain twitchy she tuts and secretly judges and is concerned what people think of her.

She was resistant to Reggie but fell in love with him when she got to know him.

And her being resistant to Reggie wouldn't have been unusual disabled children/adults were often feared and felt they needed looking after "by professionals"

My FiL didn’t speak to his brother or his wife ever again after they had a child with DS in the 70s and gave her up for adoption. I remember people talking about my next door neighbours in the 80s, whose child had severe disabilities and had to live in residential care, and saying how good they were to visit her so often (multiple times a week). Attitudes to disabilities have changed so much in my lifetime.

And though there is plenty of room for improvement, I’m so glad times have changed doubleraspberry

They have, Doubleraspberry. I had an elderly relative who lived with other relatives until age added unmanageable health problems to his learning disability and he had to go into residential care. It was very unusual for that to happen.

I hated the Christmas show and actually stopped watching half way through which is a first for me and CTM.

Have enjoyed all the other 3 episodes though, dr Turner is annoying, I didn't see the point of various scenes with him in.

I always think there is a reluctance to marry off any of the main characters as would be more difficult to keep them in the series? In rl Trixie, Val and Lucille would have all been married by now and Nonnatus house reserved for younger newly qualified nurses coming through.
