Anyone wondering if Trixie’s godmother is going to make an appearance? She’s mentioning her every week now. Trixie was very cut up about Nonatus being closed down. Of all of them, I think she has little else in her life. She’s slowly morphing into a spinster. Being a spinster was to be a figure of pity in the sixties.

The kids got German measles a couple of weeks back when there was the diphtheria outbreak.

Mum was worried they had diphtheria but was told to take them home as only German measles

Young Nuns would be fascinating. I'd quite like a wartime one as well... They make reference to the Sisters delivering babies during the blitz in the books.

@FredaFrogspawn. That's a great idea, I'd watch that. In the books there was quite a backstory for Sister Evangeline. She was born in the slums in Reading and that is why she could relate to the people in Poplar.

I think they should go back in time and do a series - or at least a Christmas Special- with the young Sisters Evangelina, Monica Joan and Julienne in a 1920s East End. And pick the evocative atmospheric music and feel they had in the earlier episodes.

May and Angela will grow up in time.

I think the way the May story worked out was good, everyone wanted what was best for her but obviously her mother and the Turners actually wanted to keep her. Guardianship is surely as good as adoption, it's at least honest. I think she should know about the culture from which she comes and the language.

I'd read this thread before the episode so knew what to expect... I thought it was a good episode though. Far better when they don't have too many things going on at once.

The May storyline has been left handily open-ended, but May and Angela are starting to really annoy me - Stepford Children! They give the same exclamations at the same time all the time. Surely they are old enough to have their own odd line now rather than have to say everything in unison!

I am (probably unreasonably) bothered by the fact that they showed August bank holiday as being 30th August when it wouldn’t have been in 1965 as there was still an early August bank holiday in England then.

I thought something bad was going to happen because of the castor oil.

I remember in the mid-sixties, colour film was dearer than black and white, but for anything special, like honeymoon pics or a special day, people would splash out. I'm sure someone on a doctor's salary would be able to afford it.

I'm noticing the teal more and more thanks to this thread. I barely heard a thing the Turners said because I "teal spot" in their house now and even the adoption woman had a teal looking tea set behind her. Dr T's shirt at the end even distracted me from Sister MJ's garden as I was debating with myself if it was teal or just blue as he's so often in just a white shirt.

I've been thinking for a few weeks that they were going to have a sad baby story coming up. It's been too "nice" recently and even with advances in medicine at the time everyone was having too happy an ending each week.

The preview had me wondering what new doc was up to though, was he not the one wanting to abide by the rules when the four of them were there before?

FrancisCrawford colour photos I've seen in my family/husbands don't appear until early 70's. My in laws got married in 67. All their wedding pics are black and white. Maybe we're poorer...

I think May's mother was repeatedly putting her in then taking her out of the orphanage. As Sr Mildred said that she was always waiting for her to come back. Or something along those lines.

Sorry no commet about last episode as I did watch it but it made no impression on me.

@PorpentinaScamander - my flip comment about weighted blankets and young things, is really because some of us grew up with being weighted down with any number of blankets, coats and dressing gowns to keep warm in the winter. They have been deprived of this growing up in the duvet era. And are now being encouraged as some sort of therapy to pay out lots of money for a designer blanket. When you can achieve it in the old fashioned way!

But yes, there is something to being under a heavy layer.

I think they did make valid points about May's mother and what would happen when her employers discover she has a child and what the consequences of that would be for May.

Very difficult situation.
