What is going on with Mother Mildreds make up?

Was Dr. Turner even in the books? It’s ridiculous to portray him as singlehandedly caring for the entire district as well as running the maternity home. Even with Simpering Shelagh as his trusty sidekick.

Yes he was in the books briefly, Stephen Mcgann has a degree in science something or other so I guess he is keen for his wife to let him show off his medical knowledge on the programme ! I dont mind the Turners but i do think they need to calm Dr turner down a bit.

Have just watched these episodes (Christmas binge watch) she could stand the thought that his daughter was struggling with the divorce so told the dentist that she thought he should go back to his wife. Not sure wether he actually did it though as he hung around for a few episodes.

Heidi Thomas did Desert Island Discs recently and talked about how many more seasons it's been commissioned for, said that they'd used all of Jenny Worth's books in S1-2, and most disturbingly - claimed that Dr Turner was only ever supposed to have a few lines in one episode but there was so much good feedback they wrote him in permanently. Who did they ask??????

She also said this was the first season she'd not written all the episodes and was taking a step back from writing and was concentrating on producing. I wonder if the other writers have to wrote him in.
