Who did they ask???. His Missus, who writes his lines.

FredaFrogspawn · 14/01/2020 21:03

I loved the series which was filmed with Trixie heavily pregnant in real life. Her beautiful neat figure obscured in every shot with newspapers, piles of laundry or bed clothes! It was very obvious!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/01/2020 21:14

Grin yes, spot the bump. It was beautifully choreographed. Loved watching that series.

Binglebong · 14/01/2020 21:51

A present tor you all. I know you'll love the colour! Grin

I looked at the woman with haemacromatosis when she was first in it and though liver issue then when Dr T mentioned he was missing something and her mum being an alcoholic, it was just like my dad and his dad. It wasn't diagnosed in my dad until after a liver transplant.

Interestingly, my sister and I have ferritin issues that the medics can't get under control and my dad's specialist is now wondering if it's all linked. One of the grandchildren has been diagnosed with haemacromatosis but none of us children have been.

AlpineSnow · 16/01/2020 09:01

claimed that Dr Turner was only ever supposed to have a few lines in one episode but there was so much good feedback Chinny reckon

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 16/01/2020 10:20

Marking my place - just done a binge watch of the Xmas special (cringe), and the first two episodes so I'm all caught up :)

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 16/01/2020 20:03

Oo - I've just found out a friend of mine wrote episode 3, so I'm holding out high hopes for it...

74NewStreet · 16/01/2020 20:11

Is Dr Turner all over it? 😉

Mrsjayy · 17/01/2020 12:41

Oh we shall be giving your friend some feedback then Smile

CurbsideProphet · 18/01/2020 09:23

Have they announced how many more series there will be? I'll keep watching, but it's not the same anymore. Dr Turner ruins it for me. There's too much of him diagnosing unusual conditions / looking after pet rabbits and not enough time for the midwives. Have we even seen Trixie at Brook Advisory?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/01/2020 09:41

There's at least two more commissioned.

No, I'm not sure that we have seen Trixie at Brook Advisory as yet - maybe there's a story there to come?

Rockbird · 18/01/2020 09:48

I'm inclined to believe most of the Dr Turner beginnings thing. Turner barely appeared in series 1 and McGann was at uni doing a masters at the time. He said it was only a couple of weeks work that year. Why the decision was taken to increase his role I don't know (but can guess!) but the first bit is true as far as I can make out.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/01/2020 09:59

I would have thought the BBC should guard against nepotism when hiring actors for roles, although I know they have form for it time and time again with presenters.

upaladderagain · 19/01/2020 15:10

If they insist on giving Dr Turner so much air time wouldn't it be nice if they could get an actual actor to take over the part.

HeidioftheAlps · 19/01/2020 15:16

It would be good if they gave Dr Turner his own spinoff show rather than being in CTM. I'm sure it would be very popular with all the good feedback they've had about him.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/01/2020 15:16

The story in series two, when they were starting to fall in love, and the TB was beautifully done. But since then they've not had main enough stories to justify how much screen time they get, I don't think.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 19/01/2020 19:37

'Call Dr Turner' can surely be started soon. Hopefully with a move away from Poplar so CTM can carry on without him.

In each week he singlehandedly cures whatever rare illness appears (with his two text books), before going home to Mary Sue. Perhaps we can even have another spin off then, where Timothy trains as a vet and goes to live in Yorkshire?

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/01/2020 21:05

This episode felt rather bitty.
The young mum who was adopted didn’t seem to have much of a storyline really.
There were lots of bits that were just time fillers, like the ampule breaking in the lift.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 19/01/2020 21:22

It was a bit predictable in the lift. Racial undertones all brushed under the carpet. I doubt it would have been so easy resolved. I’m in my 50’s & I remember letting signs with no blacks or Irish.

AppleKatie · 19/01/2020 21:28

The lift thing I saw coming a mile off and was far too ‘easy’.

Cyril is remarkably understanding too. He needs to just propose and get on with it.

The elderly ladies leaving at the sight of Trixie in the ‘dress’ was funny. She seems beyond the Nuns control now completely which seems weird for the period?

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/01/2020 21:53

She seems beyond the Nuns control now completely which seems weird for the period? I don't think a grown woman in 1965 would be under the control of nuns, it wasn't the dark ages. The whole fashion show thing seemed a bit unlikely though.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 19/01/2020 22:08

Helen (the writer) says they faffed with her version a bit - some added, some taken away, and some in a different order - but overall she was happy. Some bits she was a bit Hmm at how they'd been tweely rewritten, mind!! Grin

FeministFish · 19/01/2020 22:23

The price list of clothes appeared on a poster in the episode about twenty minutes before they'd agreed the prices.

Lazy continuity.

Also they had already established the weewee lady spoke English, so needing her husband to translate was weird, especially as they didn't even know if he spoke English at first.

Dr Oneface to the rescue again though. I'm only surprised he wasn't trained in the necessary specific Pakistani dialogue.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/01/2020 22:27

Also they had already established the weewee lady spoke English, so needing her husband to translate was weird, especially as they didn't even know if he spoke English at first.

I agree. He was asked at the door if he spoke English and then suddenly he’s asked to translate something really complex.
He was clearly being an arse so why involve him at all.
