globalnews.ca/video/3883310/meghan-markle-didnt-know-much-about-prince-harry-before-meeting-him-and-vice-versa

She said she didn’t know much about him.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 25/10/2019 14:14

Me too. That was the beginning of my epiphany really. Everything else has just confirmed what I learned about her from that performance

That's exactly it,the whole thing is a performance.

SenecaFalls · 25/10/2019 14:17

And so? Confused

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 25/10/2019 14:20

And so?

We're discussing the royals, I'm discussing,that's so.

GlitteryNow · 25/10/2019 14:24

'And so? '

It just seems unbelievable, of course she knew about him. Not 'much' but enough to know he was the UK's most eligible bachelor surely. Wasn't it reported that she asked her UK friends to set her up with famous or well connected people?

BertrandRussell · 25/10/2019 14:25

It’s odd, this “performance” criticism. Of course it’s a performance - what appearance before practically the entire population of the world isn’t!

BertrandRussell · 25/10/2019 14:27

She said she didn’t know much about him before they met. I honestly don’t see the problem with that. Of course she knew who he was- that‘a different.

GlitchStitch · 25/10/2019 14:28

According to her then agent she was like 'omg guess who I've got a date with!' Totally believable and human. So why the pretence that when she was going to meet him her only concern was if he was kind? Because it doesn't ring true- Hi Meghan I want to set you up on a blind date with a prince. Mmm sounds intriguing but is he kind? Come on!

BertrandRussell · 25/10/2019 14:29

And I’m sure she knew he was one of the world’s most eligible batchelors.....

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 25/10/2019 14:31

There's putting your best foot forward, following royal protacal, waving at the public and answering a few questions- which of course is a performance and one Kate did/does brilliantly. Then there's the total bollox about not knowing who Harry was etc/we don't have nasty reporters in America, no one asks how I am,it's all so hard travelling with a baby etc etc. Good grief 🙄

SenecaFalls · 25/10/2019 14:50

Come on. I think you have to do quite a bit of reaching to find fault with that interview. And this might come as a shock to you, but not everybody in the US knew much more about Harry than that he was Diana's son.

Actually we don't have anything in the US like the tabloid press in the UK. There are tabloids, yes, that publish sensationalist content, but they are very much below the radar of the average American. Most people probably couldn't even name them.

Josette77 · 25/10/2019 14:55

UsWeekly, People, TMZ... You think most people can't name these???

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 25/10/2019 14:55

And this might come as a shock to you, but not everybody in the US knew much more about Harry than that he was Diana's son

So people know who he is if they know he's Diana's son.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 25/10/2019 14:59

I thought it was so odd that they hadn't been to her Dad's before they had the interview, it seemed an extraordinary faux pas. He was just expected to pitch up at this massive event without any kind of preparation or been given the chance to develop a relationship with Harry.

Yes! This really bothered me. As did Doria been literally flown in last minute. I thought it incredibly rude of H. I think I also blame the wider RF for allowing that one, it reeked of snobbishness. We're so superior, we can't deign to meet our prospective inlaws, they're commoners after all. Just wrong. Mind you I don't know how it was in respects of the middletons?

It made me wonder just how deferential M was being to please H or fit into the establishment, that she didn't seem to press for greater equality in terms of how her parents were treated.

GlitteryNow · 25/10/2019 15:08

'UsWeekly, People, TMZ... You think most people can't name these???'

Yes it is extraordinary that posters reckon they don't do tabloid style journalism in America Grin.

Is it all the financial times style reading material and no social media either? How fascinating, it really is s different culture no wonder she was shocked.

'I think I also blame the wider RF for allowing that one, it reeked of snobbishness.'

It just seemed doomed to fail, surely for Thomas Markle to have been able to have performed at such a massive event he'd need to have felt part of it, included, not just wheeled out to do the father of the bride role. It just shows their lack of people skills, yes they're great at charity appearances and hugging strangers but seemingly oblivious on how to manage what must have been a monumentally challenging prospect for her dad.

He has never said he refused to meet Harry.

You mean the woman who lied about being her agent, and who can’t have been her agent on account of never having worked as any kind of acting agent.

She wasn't an acting agent was she though? She was responsible for arranging high profile speakers from various talent pools to represent charities and events, synching and matching causes and events with celebrities who can add status and recognition to their causes. It's win win for everyone involved.

There are plenty of pictures of them looking very tight together. They flew together for events fairly often.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/10/2019 15:18

Come on. I think you have to do quite a bit of reaching to find fault with that interview.

I think it perfectly demonstrates the difference between British and US sensibilities. I found it, or rather her, nauseatingly fake.

GlitchStitch · 25/10/2019 15:20

How do you know he faked heart surgery? Is it the same source that led you to claim on the other thread that she was estranged from him for her teenaged years even though her own words on her blog said the opposite?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 25/10/2019 15:26

Was it proved her father faked surgery apparently he had heart problems beforehand anyway.

Not that I'm saying he wasn't lying. But I don't think it's been proved either way.

In any case it was reported that he had gone bankrupt, was living his retirement in Mexico because it was cheaper and was somewhat a recluse. It really doesn't take much imagination to imagine he would feel daunted at being meeting the illustrious RF, and require a more sensitive and thought out approach. Especially as the tabloids had already made out he was a failed old man and something of a slob.

Where was the compassion in realising that?
