The new series is back next Monday on BBC2 at 10.00. Anyone else planning on watching?

I am halfway through series 2 and loving it. Agree Meg is annoying but Amanda's character is hilarious. I used to work in PR and Julia's faux chumminess in order to get what she wants is verrrry familiar!

Anyone know where Julia's purple furry coat is from?

The80sweregreat · 10/10/2019 13:25

It's good it's set in London and not the country as there would be even more stereotypes I think ! Although I can see Amanda in a listed cottage with an aga to be fair.

Julia working from home is funny ; it can't be as easy as they make out it is to do this on a regular basis too many distractions day to day.

Shelleymoon · 10/10/2019 15:14

I've watched the all. Love it!
Giggled when none could pronounce the name of Amandas shop ('store') Grin
How do you say it?

Shelleymoon · 10/10/2019 15:17

Oh dear. I was in too much of a hurry and the preview button dosent work on my phone.

The problem with her working from home is that she won’t be rushing around manically anymore, which is where most of the humour was. We need the parenting mishaps! Juggling work and kids. She makes me feel successful Grin

Thirtyrock39 · 10/10/2019 16:15

Love the styling of the characters- I think that's Sharon horgans influence...she always looked great in catastrophe and never in things you'd think would work - Julia never wears obvious outfits but they somehow work really well - joggers, lemon sweatshirt, no make up and chunky coat and glasses. Loved her polo neck green dress in episode 1 when she met with her boss too

The80sweregreat · 10/10/2019 17:35

The characters are well drawn. The new lady is a bit over the top, but the others are good and seem to having a ball during filming.
It's hard getting situations where they are all together but they have managed that quite well. The support is there and that's nice to see too. I love this show so much. This and Mum are my guilty pleasures.

derxa · 10/10/2019 19:10

I love Lucy Punch. She was brilliant in Bad Teacher too.
Best scene in new series was Julia working in the cafe. What a toad she is. Grin

BooseysMom · 10/10/2019 19:47

Oh it's excellent! I binge-watched the whole thing over two nights. Meg ends up being a really solid character as the series goes on. No spoilers though, promise

Thanks Grin

Well i've just watched episode 1 and agree the new lady is ott. But omg so hilarious and you can imagine it happening somehow. Didn't see the end of the episode as DS came downstairs! Itching to watch more but am determined to pace myself

loooosir · 10/10/2019 20:52

I binged it. It was good, I love Liz, some very funny lines.

I much prefer 'the Let Down' for this sort of mum group humour, though. I think the 'role reversal' couple are played much better in that, whereas Kevin in Motherland is just wet.

The80sweregreat · 10/10/2019 21:27

I've started a spoiler thread ; can't do links on my phone.

Awrite · 10/10/2019 22:05

Thanks 80s. Not much to say if we can't do spoilers. Will head over.

Em2122 · 12/10/2019 09:00

Only watched the first episode of series 2 and found it boring

MissEliza · 13/10/2019 12:08

Just watched the first episode. The new lady is OTT but does remind me of a few mums I know who seem to cope with it all but having a work hard play hard ethos.

MartineDubreuil · 14/10/2019 14:08

I've watched the first 2 episodes. I quite enjoyed it but don't find it laugh out loud funny. I don't find it that relatable as i don't live in a trendy area, so I don't know any yummy mummies and the shitshops would still be kebab shops here.

BirthdayCakes · 14/10/2019 14:23

I like the new woman - I've definitely come across this type before and been in awe!

I think the Kevin character is another way of showing what mothers are up against. He, like Julia, literally does everything (work, house, kids) without much input or respect from his partner.. but whereas we kind of accept it for Julia we see him as weak..

Bluewavescrashing · 14/10/2019 14:51

Interesting @Birthdaycakes. Both Julia and Kevin need to get their spouses to step up, don't they.

shiningstar2 · 14/10/2019 15:04

It's a really funny series but I think it would be even funnier if Julia's partner was around more. At the moment he's away so much she's really portrayed as one more of the single mothers. I think that there would be a lot of comedy millage in him being around but not around if yswim. Him actually living there but never around when needed. Always on his way out of the house with a cycle when the school rings with a sick child. Lots of room for humorous interaction there, both with him and with her friends. I think the last minute school shoe episode would have been even funnier if he had been around and stepped up to take them for once but the kids had run rings around him and he'd come back with entirely unsuitable stuff. Great for ironic interaction between them.

The80sweregreat · 14/10/2019 18:11

The difference between the women is that Meg has her mum about to do it all for her and Julia doesn't anymore! Julia's mum was her rock and the fact her husband wasn't around didn't matter much ; now her mum has ditched them all ( good for her) she is struggling to do the basics. Her in laws came over in the first series but needed more looking after than the kids! ( that was a funny episode and so true)

MartineDubreuil · 14/10/2019 20:38

I've watched the whole of series 2 now. I won't give anything away but i think this series went from strength to strength. Really enjoyed it. More than series 1

Thirtyrock39 · 14/10/2019 20:44

Episodes 4-6 of second series are brilliant - stick with it if you're not convinced by the first couple of episodes

mnahmnah · 14/10/2019 21:15

I’m on episode 4. Really good. Stepped up a bit now.

MissEliza · 14/10/2019 21:39

I think it's a marvellous cast - not a word I use often! I can't single out any one of them. They're all brilliant.
Julia's husband reminds me of my brother, with the triathlon training and the cycling crap. My SIL is a lot more on top of things than Julia but god I don't know how she puts up with that shit.

AnyFucker · 14/10/2019 22:25

Love it. Some stuff pinched from MN Relationships threads though Smile

I agree. I really liked Julia's denim jacket in tonight's episode.
