Old thread

Ten points to DarlingNikita who spotted my deliberate mistake - I meant, of course, "cutting the judges' comments to make it LOOK as though they are sending home the wrong people." Ahem.

Oh I watched up to the pieathon, Henry went? His pies were weird though. I lOVED Stephs pie, , so pretty and the flavours were good. She's very good on flavours ,like Sandi said there is value in simplicity , the judges think so.

Mean old Scrooge Hollywood "humbug" indeed Hmm

PinkDaydreams · 16/10/2019 08:38

I’ve been watching previous series with Mary. Paul seems to have taken over the show now and it’s all about him and what he thinks. Prue hardly gets to say anything, whereas Mary used to get an equal say too

jay55 · 16/10/2019 09:11

Rosie's tart was burned, had a burst pie but came second in technical and had pie filling that crumbled out like dehydrated soup.
Henry had a good first round terrible technical and rough show stopper.
Rosie's showstopper was more creative than Henry, who took the instructions a bit literally. But I think it was quite even. I do like both of them more than the other three, but wouldn't expect either to win.

I do wonder how clear the showstopper brief was, given David's lack of height and Harry's plain stack. The women seemed to be working on the same task and the two chaps not.

ageingdisgracefully · 16/10/2019 09:43

@jay55

I was wondering about the brief too. David's attempt wasn't actually a pie at all and Henry's was three stacked pies.

To be fair, Henry's attempt was pretty awful; thick, raw pastry, simplistic design and dry inside.

It was a failure on a very basic level.

I'll really miss him though.

The final three will be David, Alice and Steph.

DarlingNikita · 16/10/2019 10:37

She is humourless. Whenever Noel or anyone speaks to her she isn't looking at them or laughing or whatever

No, she's just quite dry. She always jokes along with them. I like her. I thought her pie looked amazing.

I'll miss Henry but it was probably the right decision.

Were the 'Moroccan pies' pastilla? They are DELICIOUS. It made me want one.

BooseysMom · 16/10/2019 12:31

Paul seems to have taken over the show now and it’s all about him and what he thinks. Prue hardly gets to say anything, whereas Mary used to get an equal say too

But did anyone notice the bit where Paul announces that the crust on one of the pies was "as tough as old boots "?! He was immediately corrected by Prue who said "no, not as tough as old boots..." or something. So he doesn't always get the last word Hmm

ppeatfruit · 16/10/2019 12:40

Yes I noticed that Boosey Prue does get her say and generally it's ok.

I like Steph too Nikita Grin I especially like the fact she sticks with flavours and ingredients that actually taste GOOD , not just any old things because they're unusual (they're usually not the norm because they don't work together !!!!)

That Tarte Tatin looked smashing .

ageingdisgracefully · 16/10/2019 12:41

I noticed that, Booseysmum.

Prue said something like " no, not as tough as old boots, but not up to your usual standard" or something.

It was as if she was doing it deliberately to score a point over Hollywood.

BooseysMom · 16/10/2019 13:14

That's right @ageingdisgracefully. It's as if she is trying to re-assert some authority over him. I think it's clever the way the producers have buiit him up into an almost villainous character ... Henry asking him if he likes meat pies and Paul giving nothing away, just a non-committal shrug. Henry saying to the side "eyes like a shark "..
I shall miss Henry.

JasperRising · 16/10/2019 13:46

I will miss Henry but I wasn't surprised he went. They were fairly even going into the showstopper as in several of them had reversed best/worst over the first two rounds, he had the same problem with thick pastry and dry interior as several of those, so it had to come to design and his just wasn't as imaginative as the others...

I like Rosie. She hasn't seemed as hugging and crying as the rest of the group but I like her sense of humour when she's talking to Noel.

Rhubarbisevil · 16/10/2019 13:52

I like Rosie. I think Steph will win but for some irrational reason, I’m not sure if I want her to.

Whitney168 · 16/10/2019 14:01

I think it's clever the way the producers have buiit him up into an almost villainous character ...

Surely they are more building him in to a joke, what with the standing at the end of people's benches just staring at them. Surely everyone thinks he just looks a twat, not intimidating? Lazy TV.

NumbersStation · 16/10/2019 15:39

I am properly chuffed Rosie is still here. I liked her from the get go.

I’d be delighted if Rosie or Dave won.

Alice or Steph? Not so much.
Maybe irrational like you @Rhubarbisevil But I just can’t warm to them at all.

And Steph has sharky eyes. Paul is more like a pissed off ravenously hungry and possibly murderous husky.

NumbersStation · 16/10/2019 15:40

Henry said no-one wants a soggy tart.

One person on that show is a soggy old tart. and they have husky eyes

Trumpton · 16/10/2019 15:53

Was I the only one who expected the last shot of the lovely Henry to be him in his pinny after he said “ if anyone knows what the Moroccan pastry is I will get naked, I am that confident“
And camera went to Adam who said “Oh I know what this is “

I am going to miss Henry !

What !?
Adam where did that come from ? David ! Sorry DYAC !

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/10/2019 16:08

Wouldnt have put alice and henry together as a couple

DarlingNikita · 16/10/2019 16:10

Surely everyone thinks he just looks a twat, not intimidating?
Agreed!

ageingdisgracefully · 16/10/2019 16:13

The David comment was quite funny...

Neither Alice or Steph seem to have a sense of humour. David and Rosie ? Yes!

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/10/2019 16:40

I quite like Rosie, she isn't all weepy and overdramatic when things go wrong - although she came close this week. I just wish she would talk a bit more slowly, maybe she will take this on board when she sees herself on TV.

I'm warming to David too but I think Steff will win because she is consistently the best Baker.

OkayGo · 16/10/2019 17:34

I'm starting to find it a bit funny and charming that Rosie speaks so fast :)

MrsGrindah · 16/10/2019 20:51

I think David deserved star baker this week. Steph is the clear favourite but she’s still doing that “ oh not little me!” false modesty thing. I do think she’s talented though but I wish she’d change her behaviour

wowfudge · 16/10/2019 20:58

Oh come on - she had a disaster in the technical this week.

MrsGrindah · 16/10/2019 21:00

Do you mean you think Steph won’t win?

HeddaGarbled · 17/10/2019 00:24

Steph and David should be in the final. I can’t call it between Rosie and Alice: it could go either way next week.
