Has anyone watched this yet? It is really sad. I've just cried most of the way through. I actually dont think shes ugly. Unique looking yes, but not physically repulsive. And I think she has such beautiful big eyes and many other nice features like nice hair and good body shape. It is so sad to see the toll the bullying took on her mental health.

Social media really needs to have restrictions on comments or take reports seriously, the amount of time i have reported comments on instagram for them to come back and say it doesn’t violate their guidelines.

Hope this documentary opens peoples eyes a bit. Your comment might be a one second thought to you but to someone else that will stick and will cause harm

bakedbeanzontoast · 13/09/2019 11:25

I always wonder if the producers of the show warn people of the fact it's likely they will get shit online. It's not right, but it happens. You would have to be pretty short sighted to think people will only say positive things, or maybe I'm just being overly cynical.

KurriKawari · 13/09/2019 11:44

Wow victim blaming much? How about people just don't say horrible stuff about someone they don't know, who hasn't done anything to them etc?

bakedbeanzontoast · 13/09/2019 12:20

Totally agree with you. But people tend to be dicks online and that's just the reality of the situation. I certainly don't agree with such behaviour. I do wonder why people carry on the way they do online.

bakedbeanzontoast · 13/09/2019 12:24

I suppose the only solution would be to devise some sort of algorithm that filters out abuse.

PuffHuffle5 · 13/09/2019 12:28

I think it’s really sad because actually she just looked like a normal young girl - which at the time I suppose not many were used to seeing on the tv. I remember thinking how refreshing it was to see someone who although beautiful wasn’t just a generic airbrushed kind of pretty when Little Mix first appeared on the X Factor. I think it says a lot about beauty in the media and how we see a lot of just one type of beauty for her to have gone through so much shit.

desperatehousewife21 · 13/09/2019 13:04

Back when they were ok the X factor (and now) Jesy was always my favourite. I loved that she didn’t fit the typical pop girl mould. I loved her unique style and thought it was great she was so confident with it too. I knew she had trolls and it really affected her but I didn’t know to the extent that she tried to kill herself Sad the doc was so sad but I’m glad she did it because it really needs to be shown what goes on online and it’s not just celebs it affects but normal people too, especially teenagers.

desperatehousewife21 · 13/09/2019 13:04

On* not ok.

Goatrider · 13/09/2019 13:41

Mustdust - I agree, feels like the message has been missed.

I've just watched the start of this. I don't really know anything about the group, but whenever I've seen them I always thought she seemed incredibly confident. It's so sad what she's been through. And what tons of other people (famous and not) are going through.

I really don't understand the mentality of people who send the sort of messages she gets. It is saddening that people can be so vile.

bobstersmum · 13/09/2019 14:28

I can remember watching pop idol or pop stars was it called, the one that formed Hearsay, and Nasty Nigel telling Kym Marsh that she'd got fat and needed to lose weight. I was shocked even back then that anyone thought it was ok to publicly fat shame a young girl, but now it's not just one person it's a load of idiots sat behind their phone doing it.

spiderlight · 13/09/2019 17:02

I watched this because I know one of the other girls featured (who has been through utter hell but has risen above it to make a huge difference to hundreds of other victims of bullying). I was absolutely gobsmacked by the Katie Hopkins tweet, and even more so by her apparent lack of remorse on Twitter today. That woman really is pondlife.

Bloodycats · 13/09/2019 17:07

I felt very sorry for her.

What did annoy me in the doc was the focus on looks. The young girl that died by suicide, she said she was gorgeous etc and it’s a shame. What if she was ugly? Should she have then? It doesn’t matter at all what your face looks like, I hate the amount of pressure for women to be pretty

covetingthepreciousthings · 13/09/2019 19:21

I was surprised there was no mention about pressure from the inside, producers etc, wanting certain looks / weight. I'm sure it was Pop Idol days & Hear'Say's Kim Marsh coming under pressure from bosses to lose weight as she was the 'odd one out' being older and bigger than the others.

I assume there must be massive pressure to look the right way from the top, just thought it might have been touched on in the doc as that might have played a part too?

Just awful though & such a sad watch, I hope she can find happiness in herself.

KurriKawari · 13/09/2019 19:37

Yes bloodycats, everyone falling over themselves now to say that they think x y z is beautiful. No, doesn't matter how pretty they are, just dont be nasty about people's looks full stop.

Gre8scott · 13/09/2019 20:48

I saw them once rehearsaing at a rehearsal epace in london she was friendly and asked to sit next to us then just ate her lunch she didnt look ugly or repulsive she looked like everyone else its so sad

KurriKawari · 13/09/2019 20:51

And if she was "ugly" (which is subjective anyway)?????

EmAreSea · 13/09/2019 21:44

I do think it's such a shame she's had so much surgery since. I completely understand what compelled her to do it, what she went through was absolutely horrific and she has my utmost sympathy, and respect for being brave enough to speak about it, but now she's preaching body positivity whilst projecting the same unrealistic beauty standards she was subjected to onto the impressionable young women who look up to her, thus continuing the cycle.

Pinkyyy · 13/09/2019 21:48

Haven't seen the documentary but I think she's ruined herself with all the cosmetic procedures. Extremely sad if she felt she had to do all of that because of being treated cruelly.

bonitakitlee · 13/09/2019 21:51

I was surprised at Katie Hopkins Twitter comment, she has had so much online abuse herself, why would she do this to another woman.

tigertruly · 13/09/2019 22:09

Was so sad when Jesy said she starved herself for a week for the X factor performance only for Katie Hopkins to tweet something so nasty she's such a bully Sad

BackseatKnitter · 13/09/2019 22:16

I only watched half as I found it too depressing knowing that my little girl will grow up to live in this world. The internet was very new when I was a teenager and we just had MySpace (!) so I didn’t experience it in the same way.

Had similar thoughts when i was watching Kathy Burke’s documentary - really struck me when she said she was grateful she didn’t have a daughter in case they grew up to look like her.

Hey1256 · 13/09/2019 22:18

@bonitakitlee because she's twisted and evil.

I think the way she is is her way of dealing with the bullying she's had in her life. Some people behave how they've been treated as a way of dealing with their trauma and I genuinely believe this is what Katie Hopkins does

SinisterBumFacedCat · 13/09/2019 22:24

It’s how KH makes her money pure and simple. There’s no tortured soul behind the eyes, just ££.

Bunnylady53 · 13/09/2019 22:37

What did Katie Hopkins tweet?

MustDust · 13/09/2019 22:53

Haven't seen the documentary but I think she's ruined herself with all the cosmetic procedures
This is precisely the shit she's talking about.Mind your own business and keep your opinions on how other people look to yourself.
