Weren't doctors usually quite upper middle class and obviously university educated (unlike the 'rug maker')? Not necessarily landed gentry though.

LOVED Ann standing firm in the last conversation. She felt Anne’s equal and showed her sense. Can’t wait for the next series, but we’ve not heard the last of the pig episode I fear

I wonder if Sally Wainwright chose to use the same actor for both the Sowden brothers as she almost has her own 'TV Repertory Company' - as in she likes to use actors she already knows and has worked with before. Don't know if he falls into that catagory and she wanted him to have a larger part, but I noticed he was another Oldham actor.

Absolutely loved it. The BIL seems a right abusive sod.

I remember going to Shibden Hall on a school trip in the 70s. It really impressed the 8 yr old me as it was the first time I'd been to a proper old house. I've been wanting to go again, but I bet it will be busy now.
Mr Washington definitely smells a rat where Sowden is concerned, but I reckon he'll keep quiet as his daughter has now married into the family.

Posted too quickly ... I thought she played this character really well. Ann walker is a bit of a drip though and seemed to make a miraculous recovery without any sort of input from anyone.

Thank you for all that hard work GotToGoMyOwnWay it was very interesting. It does seem the relationship was well portrayed in the series, I did wonder quite what Anne Lister saw in Ann Walker but hoped the latter would have been able to stand up to her brother in law.

Would be different if there wasn't going to be a second series but it spoils whatever portrayol of real events they choose to have that info.

In the mean time on a more positive note I found a whole load of "family portraits" that I think were taken to promote the series.

Well you’d have to be daft not to realise that Ann Walker had mental health issues. I apologise again.

My sad face was not that you had posted it but more sad at the outcomes for all of them, which I already knew as I had looked Ann Lister up as soon as I got into the series. So so sad all round.

But for me knowing that won't spoil my appreciation of series 2 whenever it airs. We know know the outcomes of lots of historical people and we can still enjoy dramas about them (royalty from all ages, Winston Churchill etc)
