I don't think it will be wrapped up next week. There's a second series to come. I imagine sone story lines will carry over.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/07/2019 15:30

Loved the bit about the thermometer!

stumbledin · 02/07/2019 23:41

Will be interesting to see how the last episode of this series finishes as it was written and filmed before they agreed a second series.

So it will probably have to balance giving some sense of things working out, but leaving some issues open to be followed up.

Or maybe they shot a different final episode once they knew the second series.

Not sure that Marian is more sympathetic but do hope she gets away from having to tidy up and keep things going while Anne strides around or goes over on another adventure.

But no spoilers please from anyone who has read the diaries or a biography.

Thanks!

JessMariano · 07/07/2019 12:18

Yes that carriage scene was brilliant. So much emotional stuff going on but “yes I’m a bit odd and I brought my thermometer with me” had me almost crying with laughter. It was so big!

EachandEveryone · 07/07/2019 20:11

I dont understand some of it. Is she out to all her own friends and family. All the talk of moving women into the house the family dont seem to mind?

Fresta · 07/07/2019 22:43

Each, as I understand it she isn't out 'out' to her family but they all 'know', like it's an unspoken understanding- wink wink, nod nod, if you like.

checkeredredshorts · 07/07/2019 22:52

I have just caught up from last week.

I am probably being thick but can anyone explain the giant thermometer?!

Pebble21uk · 08/07/2019 09:22

In the diaries there is reference to Anne travelling with a giant thermometer, but in reality it was because she was taking it to have it valued for someone. Sally Wainwright decided to use it to comic effect I think because Anne was meticulous about recording times and temperatures in her diaries.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 08/07/2019 09:41

Was she carrying it when she first arrived home, in episode one?

I can't remember Hmm

I'm going to miss this on a Sunday night! Can't wait for the second series.

EachandEveryone · 08/07/2019 13:47

I enjoyed it

stumbledin · 08/07/2019 15:27

I really enjoyed it even the soppy scence where Ann climbed up the hill in all her finery (as if) so they could have the reunion scence with stunning scenery!

I thought it interesting that it showed that when Anne was outside her own little sphere where she thinks she's in charge, she's a bit of a disastour socially. But obviously indulged as an eccentric Englander.

Who is the actress (very well know I know from Scandi Noir tv) who played the Queen and held onto her hand for too long and so meaningfully?

I wish Marian hadn't been so pleased to get the tiniest recognition when Anne got home - a pat on the head!

Callmesausage · 08/07/2019 17:22

The book of her diaries is on Amazon kindle for 99p today.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 08/07/2019 21:25

stumbledin it was Sofie Gråbøl from The Killing. She's great - was a nice surprise to see her. Poor Marian and her pat on the head Grin

CheckingOutTheQuantocks

Thanks! She looked so familiar but without her sweater ...

Have just seen she is in remission from cancer - wishing her the very best outcome Flowers

desperatehousewife21 · 09/07/2019 15:19

Loved it and am reading the book that’s on kindle for 99p I haven’t got as far as where this series had ended yet tho.

I’m prob being really thick but is Uncle Sam? (POSs not his name) played by the same actor who played the dad eaten by pigs?

Pebble21uk · 10/07/2019 06:44

No you're not... I noticed this too. Just looked and same actor down on IMBd playing both roles Ben/ Sam Sowden! Very usual in theatre but TV - not so much!

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 10/07/2019 07:17

I hope her sister Marian had a happy life.

northernstars · 10/07/2019 11:27

I loved her at the ball dressed in white stomping around the place.

desperatehousewife21 · 10/07/2019 14:51

I wonder why they have used the same actor then, odd!

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 10/07/2019 16:23

Maybe they were meant to be twins?? It did seem a bit odd, but at the same time, I always think that actor is underrated and was a bit sad that his character was written out early, so I was kind of glad to see him back, albeit in a different role.

Fresta · 10/07/2019 16:24

I just looked it up- Sam Sowden is the character name of the guy that was fed to the pigs and was played by the actor Anthony Flanagan. I don't think they are the same actor.

Fresta · 10/07/2019 16:40

Actually, you're right- they are both played by Flanagan- sorry! Maybe he was the best choice as at least they look veeerryy similar!

MyOtherProfile · 10/07/2019 16:43

@Fresta definitely is the same actor playing both brothers. Sam was fed to the pics and uncle Ben appeared this week.

Oops cross post Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/07/2019 16:46

I thought Marian looked quite cosy with the doctor and hoped there might be something there.

I loved the bit with the thermometer too.
