GoT is actually disgusting, isn't it?

In what way can it be described as 'entertainment'?

I seriously, don't understand why people happily sit down to watch the carnage, the immolation, the screaming children.

What is wrong with people?

OP posts:
MallySally · 13/05/2019 22:22

Well I love Big Bang as well as Game of Thrones, so I'm obviously undeserving of my brain.

DetectiveSantiago · 13/05/2019 22:22

OP, you've pretty much said the same thing over and over. That you find us disgusting for watching this (but with more italics).
Saying that over and over again doesn't help anything.

Yes, like myriad TV shows and films and real life, it contains sex, it contains violence, it contains some very disturbing concepts. But, believe it or not, most viewers aren't sat at home wanking off over someone being beheaded. Despite your derision, the plot and character development is incredible- it is ENTERTAINMENT- and there are at least 1 billion non-squeamish people who can watch it as such. I'm not sure what you want from an answer if you just tell everyone who disagrees with you that they're vile and disgusting and dire.

ShawshanksRedemption · 13/05/2019 22:23

@Miljah

I mean this with the greatest respect Mijah, but many people are able to watch GoT and be horrified by what they see so that they too can engage with the feelings of righteousness. People would not be pointing at kids being burnt alive going "ha, ha!" whilst watching it.

I do think your job is affecting your judgement, maybe you need to get some support if it is really upsetting you to the point that you're wondering about society whilst walking around and feeling disgust? That can't be good for you.

I watched the first episode a few months back to see what all the fuss was about and absolutely could not bear all the rape. I’ve heard the writers took that message on board and made it less rape-centric after the first season, but I really have zero interest in watching any more.

Don’t think it should be banned or anything, I just don’t want to watch it. I’m sure I bore people by banging on about the tv I do like to watch, that’s life

steff13 · 13/05/2019 22:24

I like true crime novels. Blush Never watched GoT, though.

BlackPrism · 13/05/2019 22:25

@WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe I would be fine with teens watching it... it first aired when I was 15. I watched it with my 13yo brother. We are both just fine, law abiding, empathetic individuals.

Karwomannghia · 13/05/2019 22:25

I watched a few and it just seemed the same every week: death, incest, snow, monsters, magic tits, sex, maps travel. And I could barely see it because it was so dark in most of the scenes.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/05/2019 22:25

Why the odd use of the italics OP

I think the bold and italics are used to denote which voice is typing at which point.

I have to do my HCP job in the morning LMAO.

I must say I'm enjoying this thread. I think the inappropriate use of scare quotes is my favourite bit.

tho I won't be drawn into a 'I'm superior' discussion

I can also 'choose' not to watch 18 year olds being paid to 'act' as the 'victims' in Pornhub productions...That's all stuff that's legal, but I can 'choose' not to watch.

@MNHQ, please can we 'choose' to nominate this for classics?

DetectiveSantiago · 13/05/2019 22:26

so many of you seem far more invested in your delight and right, in watching GoT than I was expecting

Funny how, when you ask people on a public forum, they will answer you.

steff13 · 13/05/2019 22:26

What about Outlander? It's pretty violent. And Jamie gets raped by Jack Randall. I am I disgusting for watching that?

SheeshKebab · 13/05/2019 22:26

It's completely unrealistic. We're not going to be burned alive by a dragon🙄for me personally, that stops me ever really getting distressed about it. I know it'll never happen.

MallySally · 13/05/2019 22:28

There are magic tits in GoT?? Damn, I must have missed them!

Pinotjo · 13/05/2019 22:30

It's only a tv program, get a grip

Bettercallsaul1 · 13/05/2019 22:30

But the point is Bertrand that GoT, like any other successful, long-running drama, is not simple gratuitous violence and sex! Have you actually watched it? If it were - on every episode - it would be tedious beyond measure and would have lost its audience years ago! It centres on the issues that have always been central to drama - power, love, friendship, family relationships. Of course there is going to be some sex and violence - they're inextricably linked to power and love. But if you've watched GoT from the beginning, you would know that they are a (necessary) part, but not the whole.

5foot5 · 13/05/2019 22:30

The post by Bettercallsaul1 at 21:50:24 sums things up pretty well I think.

But OP, where you seem to be missing the point is in assuming that people enjoy it because of the sex and violence alone. Do you really imagine that it's millions of fans are sitting there rubbing their hands together saying "Oh a cracking but of rape and burning this episode!"

I suspect most people are watching with their hands to their face going "oh no, oh no, oh no". But they are still watching because it has been a fantastic story with amazing characters and character development and they care about what happens.

Over the years it has made me laugh, sob, cover my eyes in horror and gasp in amazement. I don't just tune in because I want to watch people die horribly, I watch because it is gripping television.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/05/2019 22:31

Saying that so I don't see any 2am posts 'WHERE HAS THE OP GONE?' tomorrow.

Oooh, caps lock. A new voice.

I'm picturing the main voice to be drunk and aggressive, like Bender from futurama, interspersed whenever there is italics by a cookie monster voice.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 13/05/2019 22:34

I can’t watch it. I’ve tried. Too gory and upsetting for me. I wish it were less so, since the rest of it’s supposed to be so good. There are so many shows these days that I just cannot watch, too much violence and especially scenes of torture.

Outofinspiration · 13/05/2019 22:36

It has fire breathing dragons and ice zombies - it is in no way even close to reality!

I just cover my eyes on the really gory bits because I don't like it either, but it's not supposed to be 'real' violence.

Outofinspiration · 13/05/2019 22:38

I cannot watch films about say, WW2, or anything that actually happened because I find it too upsetting. Even the news these days.

GoT is pure fantasy, I don't have a problem with it at all.

Cottonwoolmouth · 13/05/2019 22:38

Reality TV programmes disturb me

Amen!

hellenbackagen · 13/05/2019 22:38

It's a complex story. That's why I like it.

Ontheboardwalk · 13/05/2019 22:39

miljah BUT ITS NOT PUBLIC ACCESS TV. Sorry for shouting but you aren’t forced to watch it. You can choose not to watch so I honestly dont see what your post is about.

I enjoy watching game of thrones which are if you don’t subscribe to sky costs you nothing and you can’t watch. You obviously enjoy antiques roadshow that is paid for from my tv license. I demand a refund 😁

hellenbackagen · 13/05/2019 22:40

Should say a complex fictional story no less! As in -' not real....

Hippopotas · 13/05/2019 22:41

Your use of italics disgust me
