GoT is actually disgusting, isn't it?

In what way can it be described as 'entertainment'?

I seriously, don't understand why people happily sit down to watch the carnage, the immolation, the screaming children.

What is wrong with people?

Better not watch Spartacus or Vikings then

I loved the early episodes of Spartacus, mainly for Andrew Whitfield and John Hannah. Unfortunately Andrew Whitfield died in real life so they replaced him. I found that more upsetting than the actual series.

I llove GOT. I've not read the whole thread though. Will do when I have time

Savoury99 · 16/05/2019 23:09

Those petitioners are so diotic. The actors must be sick to the back teeth of this series and desperate to move on.

Agree with this.

Episode 5 didn"t shock me. I guessed they were going to do something mad.

BlueEyedBengal · 16/05/2019 23:10

Like I said I haven't seen it!Grin

Miljah · 16/05/2019 23:24

I have pretty much sat on a sofa through GoT. With earbuds in, on this iPad. It's a) hard to avoid child immolation, molten metal crowns- oh, you know, the stuff that's been gripping you for years!- with it being on a TV in the room watched by DH who also cannot explain why he watches it.... and b), I actually think it's instructive to witness what's currently titivating, interesting, much the same number of the population who voted Brexit 🤔😉

However, in this respect, I cannot win. If I hate it so much, why have I 'watched' it? But if I haven't, how can I comment?

And yes, I've RTFT. I started it.

You may have read the full thread, OP, but you haven't engaged with or made any effort to properly comprehend any of the points posters have taken the time and trouble to make.

In your early posts you said the following:

what disturbs me is that I walk among people who think this stuff is OK.

But that anyone would eagerly turn on to GoT, knowing what they're likely to see, I find disturbing.

Yet you choose to continue to share your life and home with someone who does watch and enjoy the very programme you are wanting banned from the airwaves because it desensitises people to violence, those who watch it are morally reprehensible and the cause of the breakdown of civilised society. Accurate description of your husband?

OkPedro · 17/05/2019 00:50

The irony is not lost on us reddogsbeg I still think op is pulling our leg

Miljah · 17/05/2019 01:00

Read zurisee Monday 22:50.

OP posts:
pallisers · 17/05/2019 01:05

Ok a have a script for a new tv show, no one dies and everyone lives happily ever after. It’s all about respect for ones neighbours and everyone being equal. Sound amazing doesn’t it, who wants to watch this? :P

Off the top of my head, Modern Family. It is one of our favourite shows. If you don't want to watch it, fair enough. but it exists and has a wide audience.

DioneTheDiabolist · 17/05/2019 01:06

Well, what a range of reaction!
Millions of individuals watch the show, so it stands to reason that you would get a range of reaction.

I have pretty much sat on a sofa through GoT. With earbuds in...
Who are you sitting on the sofa with OP?

Miljah · 17/05/2019 01:15

Um... two or so posts ago I told you who I sat on the sofa with, did you not read that?

So I guess there's no chance you read my recommended zurisee post of Friday 22:50, is there?

OP posts:
DioneTheDiabolist · 17/05/2019 01:19

Sorry, I missed that bit.Blush Its late.

Miljah · 17/05/2019 01:29

Yes, I guess that although I have been derided for some of my sensibilities being informed by my HCP job, here I am, alert, and not missing important detail, at 01:30.

OP posts:
RedDogsBeg · 17/05/2019 01:38

Yes I've read zurisee's post and? You didn't articulate any of that in your posts and posters have responded to that post.

I am questioning you on what you have said.

Miljah · 17/05/2019 01:52

red I stated the zurisee was more eloquent than me in expressing my views. Because I am not arrogant or 'superior' and, yes, have RTFT, therefore, I direct you towards that.

I'm not entirely sure what you want me to say. I made a point; several people agreed. IMO, zurisee, among others, expressed what I feel rather well.

Do you have a problem with that? Or maybe you haven't read their post?

What is wrong with people?
What is wrong with your DH OP?

what disturbs me is that I walk among people who think this stuff isOK.
Are you disturbed that you live with someone who thinks this stuff is ok?

People watch this for fun- then hand-wring about our societal desensitisation to violence.
Have you found that your DH has become desensitised to violence over the years he's watched GOT?

you are the sort of viewer I am aiming my disgust at.
Are you disgusted at your DH OP?

GoT is gratuitous violence made to titivate those prone to respond.
Does your DH get titillated by gratuitous violence?

I'll 'chill out' once my fellow world-travellers findfictional senseless violenceentertaining.
I think you may be in for a future of dreadful tension.Sad

I said I'd gone. I sort of have, but waiting on the shower after DH! Sitting in bed.

posted at 22:58
I am sitting in bed waiting for DH to finish in the shower...
...I don't like the reality that I live among people who are freely allowed to watch the nastiness of GoT- people who think it's great.
posted at 23:19
How do you feel about living with your DH, a man who thinks GoT is great *OP?

More importantly, how do you feel about living with a man who takes 20minutes in the shower when he knows you are waiting?Shock 20 minutes! Is he showering the whole time? How much water?Shock How much energy is he wasting?Shock How much is he contributing to climate change and actual real world destruction?ShockShockShock

OP, I think that instead of displacing your anger at your DH on to GoT fans on the bus and the internet, you should just LTB and be done with it.

Or maybe try Relate.Grin

OkPedro · 17/05/2019 02:09

And still op doesn’t answer the question about her dh watching GOT 😂

Mothership4two · 17/05/2019 03:09

I think Laurie was making the point that there is violence in Shakespeare not comparing at all. But why not compare to Shakespeare? Why be so precious about it? His plays were probably the GOT of the time.

CaptainBrickbeard · 17/05/2019 06:14

What a shame the OP popped back up again when the discussion had got intelligent and interesting! Then back comes the goady fucker spouting bollocks again trying to whip all the idiocy back up with not even the faintest glimmer of understanding anything that’s been said at all for the past umpteen pages. The OP doesn’t understand either the thread they have started or the petition they have linked to which they fondly imagine supports their half-baked nonsensical twaddle. Slope off again, OP, everyone else on this thread actually has something to contribute.

Aberforthsgoat · 17/05/2019 07:20

Op, I’m sorry but you’re laughable. Why bother posting if you’re not going to actually answer questions and engage with well thought out debate. Oh yes, to rile everyone up. Hmm
If you’re that disgusted by people who watch Game of Thrones, and you do seem to feel very strongly about this, I’m surprised you can bear to live with one.

SaskiaRembrandt · 17/05/2019 07:28

But why not compare to Shakespeare? Why be so precious about it? His plays were probably the GOT of the time.

They were. It's only with the passage of time that they have morphed into art.

needtotalkaboutit · 17/05/2019 07:49

Titillate. Not titivate.

BertrandRussell · 17/05/2019 07:49

I don’t have a problem with comparing it to Shakespeare. But the amount of graphic violence you actually “see” in Shakespeare depends very much on the production- there isn’t much in the stage directions. (Obviously there is some, before anyone reminds me of Gkouster or Titus)

RiversDisguise · 17/05/2019 08:02

Shakespeare is a tad bit better written, I'd say.

Icandothisallday · 17/05/2019 08:22

zurisee post is what? Why are you directing everyone to it?

Watching fictional violence doesnt desensitize people. That why people are bringing up Shakespeare. Because people have watched fictional violence, actually experienced levels of violence shown on TV shows, and society hasn't descended into madness.

OP neither you or the poster your direct people to can actually answer that. Or the fact that society manages to come through, times where we have displayed the violence in GoT. On the scale is displayed in GoT. I feel I need to point out the fact that I am aware there werent dragons. As that seems to be some peoples point of view 'it cant be based on medieval times cause - dragons'. Totally failing to recognise that everyone is aware the dragons is a fantasy element added and doesnt mean the rest of it didnt happen.

Since the post in Monday, its been explained why the violence is part of the story.

OP was actually quite impressive in their goady behaviour. Until the non sensical 'people want it re written because of the violence'. Its quite clear this small minority of viewers, havent said that at all. They dont like how its playing out or how fast its moving.

I also dont believe the OP isnt intelligent enough, to figure out that she can be in a different room to her husband when he watches it. She sits there with earphones in, but seemingly knows loads of stuff that happens in details.

I mean the, melted gold being poured on someones face, that was series one wasnt it? You know lots of detail about a show you dont watch op.

I also dont get how you can share your home with someone who watches it, yet worry about mixing with people outside the house.

In 10 years has your dh started displaying behaviours that he sees in GoT? If your husband displays the cruelty shown in GoT, he is the issue. He has that cruelty in him and you need to leave. But it's not the show that turned him that way.

LaurieMarlow · 17/05/2019 08:46

Shakespeare is a tad bit better written, I'd say.

What I said upthread was that it’s not comparable in terms of language usage/style.

However it absolutely is in terms of plotting and character development.

I know I keep banging on about it, but everyone should go read the Theon/Reek chapters from the book. They are astonishing.
