Best ever Eurovision song?

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 18:35

Okay, I’m a huge Eurovision fan (went to the semi finals a few years ago in Stockholm, bloody wonderful) and have managed to convert DH.

We are arguing about which is the best Eurovision entry of all time, or at least of the last 12 years or so which is as long as he’s been watching.

What do other fans think?

Oh, and another definite yes for Love Love Peace Peace. Easily the best song we heard all night.

"There's a man in a hamster wheel!"

Just found this thread - thank you.

In 2007 I think the winner was from Serbia - Verka was the Ukrainian entry I think.

I loved the Netherlands entry in Conchita's year - very disappointed when it didn't win.

Thank you, you are indeed correct Blush Grin

*Apologies if I inadvertently misgendered Verka there - I genuinely wasn't at all certain about his/her status/identification.

WellTidy · 13/05/2019 12:05

Making Your Mind Up is my favourite song of all time, never mind just Eurovision.

Closely followed by Wig Wam Bam, which shows just how camp my tastes are. I try not to think about the meaning and just do the dance. Love a song and dance combo

FintyTin · 13/05/2019 12:41

ilovesooty the Common Linnets - they were brilliant!

I would add my votes to those suggesting Verka and Måns & Petra for huge entertainment value; and it took us a good year to stop singing ‘Wolves of the Sea’ in the Tin household. My all-time favourite is ‘Love Shine A Light’ and not just because it was the UK’s last winner: it’s a genuinely great song!

FintyTin · 13/05/2019 12:47

I meant to add a big thank you to those adding links so that we can enjoy the madness all over again! Grin

mathanxiety · 13/05/2019 22:21

I agree with your qualifiers Oubliette

Hoping for a win for Iceland this year.

ShirleyAvenue · 13/05/2019 22:33

Yes @redexpat
ooh ah just a little bit
ooh ah a little bit more

Planesmistakenforstars · 18/05/2019 08:14

I think the best winner is between Ruslana with Wild Dances and Rybak with Fairytale.

My personal favourites are:
Love Kills - Roberto Bellarosa
Tornero - Mihai Traistariu
City Lights - Blanche
Randajad - Urban Symphony

I also have a huge soft spot for Pokusaj by Laka.

I still sing that Dana International song non-ironically. That aside, the Russian grannies from a few years ago will always have a place in my heart.

Hefzi · 18/05/2019 18:27

Hummus I was living in Israel when it won - cue lots of very earnest discussions about whether Dana would count for a minyan Grin (Spoiler: Orthodox consensus was yes)

However - everyone must accept that the best Eurovision song ever was the pias-take that was Skooch

Love, love, peace, peace after all was only ever a parody Grin

EssentialHummus · 18/05/2019 18:29

hefzi Grin I can totally imagine the op ed pieces in Yediot Achronot.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 18/05/2019 20:01

I love Heroes sung my Mans Zelmerlow.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 18/05/2019 20:19

Jedward - Lipstick

Ohnotanothernamechange · 18/05/2019 21:05

Sertab - Every Way that I Can. Won for Turkey in 2005. I don't think Turkey even take part in the contest anymore do they?

Loreen is obviously the best in recent years. It's the only Eurovision song in recent memory to have been playlisted by Radio One. It was that good.

schnubbins · 18/05/2019 21:11

The common Linnets "Calm after the Storm"

Ninkaninus · 18/05/2019 21:14

Haven’t RTFT.

Teenage me would say Jonny Logan, Hold me now.

Present me says ABBA, Waterloo, hands down.

My OH would say Lordi, Hard Rock Hallelujah.

Ninkaninus · 18/05/2019 21:15

Or was it Johnny? I can’t remember....
