Best ever Eurovision song?

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 18:35

Okay, I’m a huge Eurovision fan (went to the semi finals a few years ago in Stockholm, bloody wonderful) and have managed to convert DH.

We are arguing about which is the best Eurovision entry of all time, or at least of the last 12 years or so which is as long as he’s been watching.

What do other fans think?

That year was a corker as this beauty came second

TheCanterburyWhales · 27/04/2019 21:53

I have a Eurovision. Spotify playlist with all my favourites from the early 60s onwards.
I luffs the 1970s France-Luxembourg ones and a couple of the Spanish ones.
My favourite 80s one was Avrei Voluto (1989)
Recently I've loved the Viking fellas last year, the Russian bloke who got boo'd (Lost and Forgotten) and an Icelandic ballad that I've forgotten the name of.

All time favourite probably Eres Tu, Mocedades.

Am ancient Eurovision geek.

cricketmum84 · 27/04/2019 21:53

Conchita Wurst was amazing. I love that song.

Also loved Salvador's song and the Italian entry from a few years ago that came second or third? Grande Amore!

Lovely Salvador. That was a beautiful song.

I consider myself a reasonable Eurovision geek - my sister and BIL are much more knowledgeable. When in Stockholm we went to a Eurovision quiz run by the fan club for a bit of fun. Holy shit, it was impossible. Despite many teams of 4-6, it was won by one guy on his own who was a Eurovision encyclopaedia in human form.

I am determined that my twins will grow up to win Eurovision one day... ever since I found out I was having twins it was my dream. Certainly they can beat Jedward (although Lipstick wasn’t a bad entry if someone else had done it!)

So many great songs mentioned, and so many of the best won it, because funnily enough, regardless of what the late Saint Terence Of Wogan May have thought, in the end it really is a song contest and great songs tend to sweep the board.

Personal faves are Sebastian Tellier (wozrobbed!), Fairytale, and Conchita.

But no one has mentioned this Swedish fave.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 21:59

I have them all on my playlist. Daily

You aren't sad pink, DD (8) still insists on listening to that smug Swede's I can't go on (the Top Man team bonding exercise on a treadmill who say freaking instead of fucking and offer to bend over, bless their Burton cotton socks)

German Radio is still playing Lena's Satellite back when she was channelling Dick Van Dyke.

And DH is still doing El Robocop. Blush

billybagpuss · 27/04/2019 21:59

1 Waterloo honestly no contest
2 congratulations (came 2nd)
3 kippers for tea
4 making your mind up
5 puppet on a string

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 22:00

Ha, I was going to say earlier - it’s probably the best eurovision song ever anyonebutanton. Shame it’s not an entry 😂

I like Fairytale.

My son discovered Eurovision last year (aged 7). He loved them all but he mainly loved the Danish entry where they were Vikings.

PaintBySticker · 27/04/2019 22:01

Ah yes, Higher Ground.

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 22:01

Seriously, I thought Lena had some form of speech impediment - most bizarre pronunciation of English I’ve ever heard (speaking as someone who worked in Germany for a while!)

One other favourite, which could well have won if they’d been up against anyone but Conchita.

billybagpuss · 27/04/2019 22:02

And I actually liked englebert Humperdinck’s entry although when I heard it announced Moira steward said and englebert Humperdinck has.... and I honestly expected the next words to be ‘has died’ but instead were ‘has been chosen to represent the uk’

SushiGo · 27/04/2019 22:04

Je voudrais un moustache (I'm so sorry France for my butchery) is still regularly sung in our house...

BoldMeDontAtMe · 27/04/2019 22:08

Un banc, un arbre, une rue. Followed by Abanibi.

SushiGo · 27/04/2019 22:09

Fairytale is probably my favourite winner, but conchita's was genuinely very good!

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 22:11

Oh and fair dos to Dima Bilan - Believe still sounds good

but the hilarity of his coat getting stuck the year after and Graham's commentary made me Grin like an eejit. even if he was taken out and shot after the wardrobe malfunction, oops

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 22:19

SPOILER 2019
I think Switzerland has it in the bag this year.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 22:23

SPOILER 2019
Norway also sounds good (for dancey ones)
If they go for a slower number then Netherlands is really quite lovely.

Bumblebeewine · 27/04/2019 22:24

Romania 2013 Grin

OllyBJolly · 27/04/2019 22:26

Bold ! I've been hunting for that one but was misspelling banc (banque) and thought singer was sabine! That is my favourite - still sing it now m.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ8V7-oS6yk

I also like this one m.youtube.com/watch?v=JVGHBBcnlbo Anne Marie David
