Best ever Eurovision song?

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 18:35

Okay, I’m a huge Eurovision fan (went to the semi finals a few years ago in Stockholm, bloody wonderful) and have managed to convert DH.

We are arguing about which is the best Eurovision entry of all time, or at least of the last 12 years or so which is as long as he’s been watching.

What do other fans think?

Verka Serduchka, Dancing.

She was bloody robbed.

Best ever Eurovision song?
SwedishEdith · 27/04/2019 20:39

OK, low bar, but this was the UK's best one for a while. Blue woz robbed.

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 20:43

Gotta love Verka.

When we went to stockholm the pedestrian crossings within a reasonable distance of the Eurovision village played midi versions of Euphoria - it was awesome 😂

Another vote for Euphoria!

shiveringtimber · 27/04/2019 20:46

Waterloo, hands down.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2019 20:51

Curls, it's a great Eurovision number isn't it?
Gina G was good too.

Cocolapew · 27/04/2019 20:59

Waterloo and Puppet On A String

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 21:09

Netherlands with this beauty (I was a toddler and had no taste)

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 21:12

When I was a kid it was Samatha Janus all the way. I saw it recently... yikes 😂

That was 1975's winner btw.
3 years later Israel won (I remember this one too)

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 21:14
1977- Quite pretty
BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 27/04/2019 21:16

100% with @nancy75 on this one, Sebastien Tellier any day of the week!

MoaningMinniee · 27/04/2019 21:17

I know you've ruled out 'Waterloo' on the grounds that 'it's a given' but yy it's the absolute best. Of the rest... I can actually sing bits of 'Puppet on a String' which must mean it was okay, as I was still in nappies that year. All the others - what I remember tends to be daft stuff. Like a person in a clingy sort of dress with a moustache and a beard being awfully weepy about winning. With a female name. Remember thinking 'Whaaa? Who IS this weirdo??'

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 21:18

But my favourites are still Dana International and Conchita Wurst (have met Tom irl at a book signing, he was delightful)

nancy75 · 27/04/2019 21:19

Thank you @BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin good to know someone else appreciates the wonderful madness of Sebastian Tellier!

hazeyjane · 27/04/2019 21:22

Ooh Ah Just A little Bit....

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 27/04/2019 21:27

We missed a trick this year - we should be sending Will Young (third time I am posting this...sorry, not sorry!) Grin

pinkrocker · 27/04/2019 21:29

Loreen's Eurphoria, Lordi's HRH and Alexandr's Fairy Tale. I have them all on my playlist. Daily. I am honestly that sad
Conchita doesn't get a look in. Nor does the funny star hat one.
Can't wait for next month!

nancy75 · 27/04/2019 21:30

MoaningMinniee the daft songs are the whole point of Eurovision! We can listen to boring pop songs any day of the year, Eurovision is about embracing the weirdness, I love singing Russian grannies, people dressed as milk maids, terrible outfits & even worse dance moves - Eurovision shouldn’t be everyday pop

eggofmantumbi · 27/04/2019 21:38

Israel 1986 (i think...) Woopahoola

Love it

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 21:45

Thanks all, am going to trawl these tomorrow and refresh my memory.

I just think Phoenix is such a brilliant song, and Tom Neuwirth is such a wonderful singer...

Of course Waterloo is the best, it is amazing. Sweden can rarely do any wrong, really (unless they’re pulling a My Lovely Horse)

I’d love to go back one year but I was pregnant when we went so will be a while. It was the most fun I’ve ever had I think - it was just such a lovely happy place to be, everyone dressed up and patriotic and yet being lovely to each other. It was fab.

You wound me! That’s Conchita, and it is easily in my top 3 ever. The song is amazing, his voice is amazing, forget the dress and the beard and just listen to it. It’s awesome.

Should have been the next bond theme really.

Not the weird song in the intro bit but this one...

LyndaLaHughes · 27/04/2019 21:51

Or my ultimate favourite...
