Best ever Eurovision song?

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 18:35

Okay, I’m a huge Eurovision fan (went to the semi finals a few years ago in Stockholm, bloody wonderful) and have managed to convert DH.

We are arguing about which is the best Eurovision entry of all time, or at least of the last 12 years or so which is as long as he’s been watching.

What do other fans think?

Making Your Mind Up, obviously!

augustusglupe · 30/04/2019 21:23

Conchita Wurst ‘Phoenix’ is my favourite ever Eurovision song.
DH likes Alexander Rybak ‘Fairytale’

Housewife2010 · 01/05/2019 11:41

Definitely Milk & Honey who won for Israel in 1979 with "Hallelujah". Here's the English version. ( The young man is rather dishy too).

Best ever...

Now that it is 1 May and therefore Eurovision month(!!) I am allowing myself to play my Eurovision playlist on repeat Grin. I've also now remembered how much I love Occidentale's Karma from Italy (last year I think, although it might have been 2017).

pallisers · 01/05/2019 16:22

top thread. Thank you OP.

OublietteBravo · 01/05/2019 21:05

Occidental Karma was 2017. Which was a pretty good Eurovision year. Even the UK entry was OK Grin

I’ve started to familiarise myself with this years playlist. So far I’m liking the EFTA countries (Norway, Iceland and Switzerland).

HarryPotterwhatarotter · 10/05/2019 16:34

mathanxiety I’m happy to see some appreciation for Norma John’s Blackbird (and Loic Nottet!)

I love Poland's entry this year, Pali się by Tulia.

These are a few of my favourite from recent years -

O Mie – Aliona Moon (Moldova)
A Monster Like Me - Debrah Scarlett & MØrland (Norway)
Silent Storm – Carl Espen (Norway)
No Degree of Separation – Francesca Michielin (Italy)
City Lights – Blanche (Belgium)
Face the Shadow – Genealogy (Armenia)
Golden Boy – Nadav Guedj (Israel)
Birds - Anouk (Netherlands)

I still love Take Me To Your Heaven. So catchy and upbeat. Can’t wait for this years competition!

maddiemookins16mum · 10/05/2019 20:12

What’s Another Year or One Step Further but I do have a soft spot for Katrina and the Waves (even though she was American).

mathanxiety · 10/05/2019 23:20

HarryPotterwhatarotter I love Poland this year too!

Also Iceland.

Is there a Eurovision 2019 thread yet?

womanhuman · 10/05/2019 23:30

Jessy Matador of course.

France, maybe 2010 or thereabouts?

He’s pretty easy on the eye too. 😀

Itssosunny · 12/05/2019 10:48

From the recent years I like Denmark! (last year Vikings), Rybak - Fairytale, Verka (she is going to perform next week as a guest), Moldova from 2013 (there was something magical or crazy about their performance).

Itssosunny · 12/05/2019 10:50

Also liked Portugal's song from 2018 a lot

thirdlittlepig · 12/05/2019 13:15

I came on here to say Guildo too!
@MyMumDimensionJumps

Didn't think anyone else would remember it!

alldressedupinblue · 12/05/2019 13:45

@TheCanterburyWhales : is your playlist public? I can only find "winners" ones and yours sounds perfect!!! Thanks

zukiecat · 12/05/2019 17:49

I like Nicole and A Little Peace

Won in 1982 for Germany

cricketmum84 · 12/05/2019 18:56

Who has listened to this years list yet?

My money is on Malta!

OublietteBravo · 12/05/2019 19:13

I’ve listed to this years entries. I’m going with the following countries to qualify for the final:

Semi-final 1
Australia
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Georgia
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Poland
Serbia
Slovenia

Semi-final 2
Albania
Armenia
Azerbaijan
Malta
Netherlands
North Macedonia
Norway
Russia
Sweden
Switzerland

I’m going to go with Greece as the winner.

Cheesecake53 · 12/05/2019 20:45

For DS and me so far I could listen to it all the time.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/05/2019 01:04

I still find myself singing the Scooch song from time to time - 100% quattro formaggio but I must confess, as a silly Eurovision song, I really like it!

Also loved Ruth Lorenzo's entry for Spain in 2014: Dancing In The Rain.

The Serbian entry in 2007 - Verka Serduchka - really was something else and truly in the absurd spirit of Eurovision. It looked like the love child of Su Pollard and Christopher Biggins had triggered the automated intruder restraining alarm system in the Bacofoil factory and was using his performance as therapy to help him overcome the aftermath of his traumatic ordeal. I can only assume that 'Sieben Sieben Null Zwei' must have been the system override code that eventually won him back his freedom.
