Do we need this or is there another one already started?

I only just caught up with the second episode of the new season and had been avoiding the last thread for a bit so as not to see spoilers and it is now full!

Ignore me if there is a new thread already on the go. If not feel free to use this one mate.

Most of the shots of the women were of them in their smart clothes you didn't actually see them being abused. I think it focused on them being ordinary people with ambitions in contrast to the OCG who referred to them as livestock.

Charles Dickens wrote about terrible injustice and cruelty. Was that just for titillation? He is credited as having brought these things to wider public attention and went someway towards them being dealt with.

Clawdy · 22/04/2019 12:12

Nobody would dispute the fact that trafficking exists, and is horrendous. But I still think three prime time popular dramas within a few weeks of each other, all featuring the storyline is too much.

diddl · 22/04/2019 12:14

Polly Walker (Bungalow Gill) is married to Rupert Penry Jones younger brother.

Italiangreyhound · 22/04/2019 12:16

I think Jill Bigalow look a like Roisin.

Aldicheckoutworkout · 22/04/2019 12:17

To be fair if they write independently (and have no say when their series will be aired in relation to others) then its not the fault of the writer that all 3 series geature something similar. In the same way the throat slitting has been the signature of the OCG since a few series back which although still awful was possibly before knife crime really intensified in RL.

KittyWindbag · 22/04/2019 12:22

Respectfully, sex trafficking is one of the most common distributions of OCGs. It would be offensive to be pretend it didn’t exist. Someone made a point earlier about the rape of women being used for viewers enjoyment. I have to strongly take issue with this. At no point was there any gratuitous visuals peering over bodies. The viewer was compelled to feel the distress and fear of those poor women. There was nothing lingering or distasteful. The subject matter is appalling because it’s the truth. The tv show is in no way sensationalising the issue. There have certainly been popular shows in the past that have been tawdry in their exploitative use of the female in threatening circumstances but really this is not THAT.

Clawdy · 22/04/2019 12:25

As said several times on this thread, nobody is pretending it doesnt exist.

KittyWindbag · 22/04/2019 12:25

And now to my take on the ep -

Utterly brilliant. My heart was in my mouth for the entire last act. Awful harrowing shocking and inevitable. I have so many questions. I will really miss john Corbett. I thought he was a show-stopper of a character.

Also to those saying they feel Kate has been sidelined - I theorise that she will have a large part to play in the unravelling of this. She has either known more than we think she has all along (remember initially it was her who was distrustful of Hastings?? Why the sudden defence) OR she will feel culpable for becoming part of ‘the problem’ since accepting her promotion and start to question authority again.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/04/2019 12:26

Spot on Kitty.

buggerthebotox · 22/04/2019 12:31

I'm suspecting everyone now. Tatleen is arousing my suspicion. Kate is arousing my suspicion, as is Kyle and his incompetent snipers.

Agree Ted is up to his eyeballs but I don't think he's H. I DO think he's covering for someone though. He was far too quick to tag Hilton as H. When Corbett appears on the scene, Ted realises that whatever he is covering for is going to be brought back into focus and sharpish.

It's someone he knows well. He's party to the online conversation and notices the misspelling of definitely. When pretending to be this person he makes sure that he also misspells definitely. His message is a code for Lise to off Corbett.

Corbett genuinely thinks that Hastings is H but could he be confusing him with someone else? Has Corbett seen Hastings or know his name is Ted? Could there be another Hastings - a brother maybe- for whom Ted is covering up?

Italiangreyhound · 22/04/2019 12:31

I can't find anywhere how old Andrea irvine, who plays Roisin Hastings, is.

Desperate to know who her new man is. Why wasn't he at the hospital.

KittyWindbag · 22/04/2019 12:34

Well if no one is pretending it doesn’t exist, what do they want? LoD has been on for years and years now. It has had this arc for its duration basically. And it has always maintained a non-lurid, attempted realistic approach. It has more than earned the right to this subject matter, in my opinion. Perhaps some people are fatigued by the subject matter. Fair enough. But maybe the issue is actually with other, lesser shows mining the subject matter for shock value and emotional manipulation. Something I don’t think LoD can be accused of.

Italiangreyhound · 22/04/2019 12:35

KittyWindbag I agree it's not gratuitous in LoD. I'm not saying they are doing it for ulterior altruistic motives either. I think it may just make people aware of how it happens/ can happen.

Bookworm4 · 22/04/2019 12:37

Kate & Steve are definitely doubting Hastings judgement. Will the OCG leave Corbetts body to be found or will Steve etc be left wondering where he is?
Jill could be in cahoots with Moffat to bring Ted down, think Ted is desperate or was to get Roisin back and thinks £ is the answer.
(The actress that is Roisin plays a main part in Irish series Red Rock)

Italiangreyhound · 22/04/2019 12:38

buggerthebotox Yes, Kyle, as soon as we found out his name, I thought he is going to crop up again soon!

Aldicheckoutworkout · 22/04/2019 12:41

Who is tatleen?

ElspethFlashman · 22/04/2019 12:44

Tatleen is the arse licker uniformed copper in AC12.

DH and I are convinced she's some sort of OCG mole. After all, she knew all about the shopping centre operation as it was ongoing. She seems to know absolutely everything and watches everything.

And the camera keeps lingering on her.

She's a bad 'un!

Italiangreyhound · 22/04/2019 12:45

Young, attractive police officer based in the office.

Italiangreyhound · 22/04/2019 12:47

ElspethFlashman

"Tatleen is the arse licker uniformed copper in AC12." I wrote mine before I read yours!

I'd say she appears good at her job!

Nanna50 · 22/04/2019 12:52

@tinstar I notice that the people complaining about trafficking and child abuse aren't complaining about the gratuitous and graphic displays of knife crime! I don't really need to have a prolonged camera shot of someone bleeding to death from having their throat sliced!

I agree I found the knife scene more alarming, as I did with Maneet, and knife crime is a very real problem in the UK. I found it disturbing that both scenes made throat cutting look fairly easy.

I work with victims of trafficking both male and female so perhaps I am slightly desensitised to this.

When I got my breath back I did think that John had to die that way, having sanctioned the same death for Maneet.

buggerthebotox · 22/04/2019 12:53

Probably totally irrelevant (pedant alert coming up) but when Kate says "Haitch" for H it totally grates on me. Tatleen does it too.

Aldicheckoutworkout · 22/04/2019 12:57

Oh yes tatleen. My dh is suspicious of her too....i sort of am but then i have to believe that at least some police are straight!!

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/04/2019 12:58

Didn't the IT person say they'd done some tinkering so that messages sent supposedly from 'H' would have similar language and spelling patterns, so as not to arouse suspicions?

Hence Definately.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/04/2019 13:04

Seems like half the police are bent and half the criminals are UCOs.

HastaLaVistaPrint · 22/04/2019 13:12
