Do we need this or is there another one already started?

I only just caught up with the second episode of the new season and had been avoiding the last thread for a bit so as not to see spoilers and it is now full!

Ignore me if there is a new thread already on the go. If not feel free to use this one mate.

What I want to know is - where does Terry keep the ice cream and the frozen peas?

Aldicheckoutworkout · 22/04/2019 07:30

I found the trafficking and the use of the word livestock horrific. The last 10 -15 minutes of the programme i felt seemed on a new level.

"Glad Corbett is gone. I was not enjoying Stephen Graham's over the top performance."

Me too, although I thought that the bits where he spoke to his wife on the phone were quite well done.

I'm holding onto the hope that Ted isn't H & that Corbett gave himself away.

Couldn't the "close this down" have been a message to Lisa to get out?

Pomegranatepompom · 22/04/2019 08:07

Last scenes were very distressing- I woke up at 0330 a bit traumatised. I’m far too sensitive about anything gritty. Those poor girls, probably quite realistic, just awful.
Fascinated by Lisa, she must be a UCO infers Teds management.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/04/2019 08:14

I think Corbett was trying to stitch up Ted for something that happened in his past (RUC days). His keenness to have Ted marked as 'H' seemed personal. Maybe that's why he went undercover in the first place - all part of his masterplan to bring Hastings down, one way or another.

It was horrible seeing all those smart women, full of hope, being duped and lured into the trap by the OCG.

Lise had already commented to the main members of the OCG (when they were in the car): "We've got a rat." So I think Corbett's number was up from then onwards.

It did cross my mind that Corbett as lying all along about the rendez-vous with 'H'.

Can we recall why the trafficked girls in Series 4 (whose murders Roz Huntley was investigating) had been murdered specifically.

I think all the main members of AC-12 seem to be doing their own thing. Most of Ted's actions yesterday seemed if not suspicious then very questionable but sure that's been done on purpose.

Did Terry indicate to the OCG that he'd got incriminating photos of Jackie's body as 'insurance'?

cliffdiver · 22/04/2019 08:15

I thought I saw one of the trafficked women get away, anyone else?

pineapplebryanbrown · 22/04/2019 08:20

Anne Marie is Corbett's dead birth mother but Corbett's seemed to be talking in the present tense to his wife.

longwayoff · 22/04/2019 08:22

Northern Ireland, adopted, boys home?

mydogisthebest · 22/04/2019 08:23

Does anyone else think the woman playing Lisa is a terrible actress? I find her quite distracting because of it. Didn't realise but last night DH said how bad he thought she was.

Why does she pull such faces? I call it "the Suranne Jones school of acting" because she pulls faces all the time too

OneofPansPeople · 22/04/2019 08:30

Yes, she's dire.

WhoWants2Know · 22/04/2019 08:39

I might feel differently after a second viewing (if I can stand to) but I found the last 15 minutes grim enough to be distracting from the plot. I couldn't focus on what was happening in the room between the characters, because of what was happening outside the room.

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 22/04/2019 08:41

That’s somewhat the whole point thought isn’t it. It’s been designed by the gang to be so distressing for John Corbett that he breaks his cover. When murder and robbery and all the other stuff has not moved him Lise knows he is averse to the gangs involvement in human trafficking

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/04/2019 08:44

I was also struck by the women getting off the minibus, smartly dressed and expecting a normal job, I found that kind of poignant. Not that the abuse would be any more acceptable if they had come expecting to be night club dancers or whatever. Drama always uses current concerns and I think that's OK as long as it's not too graphic and used for titillation.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2019 08:47

To me, it was not credible that only one of the gang members had a gun on him.

The throat slitting was nasty but was obviously the way John was going to go, as it's the classic LoD death motif. Yuk.

LoD is not the same without the extended interview sequences : it has reduced Kate and Steve's characters quite a lot , and has reduced the programme to a fairly standard police procedural. Someone gave an explanation for why those scenes have disappeared but I didn't really understand.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2019 08:49

On the subject of showing other victims of human trafficking, one of the Happy Valley series focused on some trafficked farm workers, largely male.

RedForShort · 22/04/2019 08:52

I'm so confused and clueless; which is a bad combination for figuring our what's happening!!

What is thw story with Lisa? We know she was in care, so was she in the home from a previous series. Some how she's undercover, she doesn't like what she's doing but is doing it regardless. So someone has something on her, she's been manipulated or blackmailed? Hastings definitely wanted Corbett dead - tried to get Steve to shoot him after all. So at guess he's behind Lisa killing Corbett. What's he got on her to get her to do it though?

Plus Corbett was set on getting Hastings seen as bent (whether he is or not actually as involved in what Corner was trying to set him up for. The Belfast connection suggests it's from Corbett's childhood, so logically you'd imagine connected to Corbett's father. Is that Corbett's Catholic colleague killed by the pipe bomb? Someone else - a paramilitary that Hastings was mixed up with. Hasting is an odd mix isnt he. He's a mason and Catholic. He's also an NI Catholic who's in tbe British police. Not a combination that'd make him popular back home.

Also Kate's is being shifty isn't she. Not a lot of attention on her. Bungalow also suspect. That an H looking likely to be a woman. Though Kate's not particular 'high up' is she. Certainly wasn't at the start of the whole H thing, so she's quite unlikely.

There's other stuff rumbling round in my head I've not quite managed to get into a sentence. Doesn't help I'm struggling to recall previous series.

I await Shrine on Duty!!!!

LetsDialDownTheIanPaisley · 22/04/2019 08:53

Cliff diver yes I also noticed one woman running off at the back

UCOinanOCG · 22/04/2019 08:54

I thought the human trafficking scenes were done well. There were no gratuitous scenes of sexual assault, just sounds of a man faking having sex. It would have made no sense to have trafficked farmworkers in that inner city location.

What was the name of the children's home, or the place it's in?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/04/2019 09:04

Diddl, Sands View is the name of the children's home which featured in series 3.

Surely just because they've only been blackmailing Hargreaves recently doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't be bent anyway?

Bookworm4 · 22/04/2019 09:31

Moffat asked the big fella for £100k yet he's given a stack of cash; was that payment for grassing Corbett?
Could Corbett have been abused in care and once he joined the police recognised Ted as one of his abusers?
Roisins injuries are classic paramilitary punishments which Corbett could have done to muddy the waters.
Lise being a UCO could be a red herring and she's just a bad 'un or worst case she was in care and groomed by Ted if he's a bad 'un and used to do the dirty work in OCG.
Just my ramblings.🤔

NoWordForFluffy · 22/04/2019 09:35

I don't think Corbett was in care. He was adopted by a relative when his mum died, but that doesn't mean he was in care. The adoption plot line was to introduce Corbett's NI connection, not to throw care into the mix, I think.

diddl · 22/04/2019 09:36

Re the £100,000-didn't Moffatt then go on to say that Ted would be loaned x amount which would make y amount so that £100,000 wasn't actually needed somehow?

Money laundering?
