How good does the trailer look!

So excited for 31 May Grin

I'm torn between rereading the book before or waiting until after

Millions of kittens longwayoff - I'm looking forward to it. Grin

I absolutely loved this. I was a bit scared to watch it because I love the book so much, but it is fantastic. I will definitely watch it again very soon. My 18 year old DD who has resisted my (many) recommendations to read the book over the years (I knew she'd love it), also loved it and is now, finally, reading the book! DS is having a re-read too.

Far better than the American gods series, but I did really enjoy that too. Another one of my favourite books. I'm glad they're not making a second series of good omens though, I have bought the two graphic novel hardbacks of the TV version (American gods and My Ainsel), and having bought the beautiful new illustrated version of goid omens last week, I've just ordered the TV companion one too Blush

greengrower · 06/06/2019 15:37

As a lover of this book and all things TP, I thought it was fab :)
Not sure why they made Anathema American though?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/06/2019 22:27

To sell it to the American market greengrower.

They like to think the they are responsible for all the clever things in the world. I agree she should have been left as British, and not quite beautiful, as in the book.

I did like Archangel fucking Gabriel though - I didn't mind him being American.

strawberrypenguin · 06/06/2019 22:51

Just finished the last episode. Absolutely loved it!

CharDeeMacDennis · 07/06/2019 10:25

looking forward to Catch 22 now. All my Christmases have come at one with two of my all time favourite books being adapted for TV in the same year

Are you me? Also two of my favourite ever books Grin

Mostly loved the adaptation - thought DT was perfect as Crowley, and liked MS as Aziraphale even though I'm not generally a fan of his. Loved Jon Hamm's Gabriel. I did think the child actors were a bit stage-schooly, mainly Adam and Pepper. Would have liked to see child actors of the calibre of the Stranger Things kids in the roles. I think I also would have liked to see more of the Tadfield idyll that Adam unwittingly created for them all, that slightly unreal Just William childhood. I know they did mention in the show the long summers and snowy Christmases. I always liked that Adam was exerting these reality-bending powers all along without even knowing it.

Hell and the demons were very Gaiman-y!

JasperRising · 07/06/2019 10:32

Good Omens and Catch 22 are also two if my favourite books! Is Catch 22 going to be in anything other than Hulu? (I don't really understand what Hulu is...)

CharDeeMacDennis · 07/06/2019 11:06

I think it's going to be on channel 4 Smile

YogaDrone · 07/06/2019 11:25

According to the Radio Times Catch 22 is on Channel 4 starting on Thursday 20th June at 9pm - so excited!

The only question is do I re-read it before the series? I didn't with Good Omens but it's been at least 5 years since I read Catch 22 so I could probably do with a refresher.

JasperRising · 07/06/2019 13:31

Fab. Thank you!

HigaDequasLuoff · 09/06/2019 23:00

Just finished ep6 - have been avoiding this thread as I didn't want to read opinions about stuff i hadn't seen yet.

My hopes and expectations were hugely high. I desperately wanted to love it more than I actually do. It wasn't bad but it missed the spark of genius it needed in order to reach its potential.

I was sad about the laborious over-explanation added for the benefit of Americans and idiots who can't spot a subtle allusion without a big neon signpost flashing a pointing arrow at it.

And I was sad that it didn't close with the "slouching towards Tadfield" line.

But I am glas it was made. There were good bits.

PerspicaciaTick · 10/06/2019 02:38

Just finished it with 11yo DS and we both thought it pretty much perfect.

VivianSmith · 16/06/2019 13:42

I absolutely adored the book but have read it only twice - once in my early 20s when I discovered TP and once a few years ago, so I’m not as much of a devotee as others on this thread. I loved the series. Yes I missed some of the wordplay, yes I agree Adam and Pepper were more speaking the lines than inhabiting the characters, but those are quibbles. I loved the Crowley/Aziraphale interplay and the way both those characters were played. Unlike American Gods, which I gave up on half way through the first season, I thought this adaptation carried the heart of the book onto the screen.

Riddleofthesands · 19/06/2019 12:31

Finished watching it last night. So good. Will rewatch at some point. 12 year old loved it as did teenager as did DH. MS was brilliant, DT was brilliant.

Have watched this with 12 yr old DD. I love it, she's obsessed! Huge fan of the book and I love what they've done here.
Michael Sheen is adorable.
My favourite way now to embarrass DD is to dance the gavotte.
Great fun all round.

longwayoff · 20/06/2019 23:26

Thanks Tyne Teas that's a very TP story. He'd have loved that Grin.

It's on the BBC now too about the petition

On Twitter Netflix have replied that they definitely promise not to make any more of the show... and Amazon Prime have replied that they promise not to make any more Stranger Things either. It's wonderfully bonkers and rather Terry Pratchett-esque.

My old uni housemate (who was never the sharpest in terms of common sense) missed everyone laughing at the petition completely and was just in full on panic "OMG Netflix can't cancel it I've not finished it" mode.

TyneTeas · 21/06/2019 21:49

Apparently they have corrected the petition website

Watched it all in two days and loved it.

longwayoff · 22/06/2019 22:22

I've watched it again. I've also watched lot of Lucifer as well which some on here have compared it to. Lucifer has it's merits, Tom Ellis is excellent although his character, and the others, are poorly written and the scripts are paper thin and all over the place. It's pretty poor by comparison and definitely lacks the charm and humour TP brought to everything. I liked Good Omens even more 2nd time around.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/06/2019 23:30

I watched half an episode of Lucifer.

It was shite for all the reasons you said longway

Good Omens, however, is fabulous.

Aziraphale is such a sweetie. And I am tempted to get Crowley's tattoo . . . The Archangel Fucking Gabriel is perfect. Hastur is disgusting and very watchable. And the Chattering Nuns are superb!

Everything is wonderful!
