When is it back? I'm sure I read somewhere that it would be back in April. Does anyone have any theories about the storyline or characters?

The AC12 triumvirate comprising Hastings, Arnott and Fleming will definitely be back.

What about Roz Huntley? and her rather drippy DH ?

Wil Nige feature? and will we find out how and why Maneet was being blackmailed by Hilton?

I can't wait, frankly.

I just realised, the last time we saw Jackie Laverty, she was in a freezer in that poor man's flat while he tried to explain to the police, who weren't listening.

Violetroselily · 26/03/2019 20:25

It's been a while since I've rewatched S1, but I seem to recall Ted or Kate saying that the problem with Gates' laddering was that it led to incorrect distribution of resources (budget, staffing, facilities etc). I guess that's the corruption element?

tribpot · 26/03/2019 20:37

Yes, Ted did explain (as Steve challenged him on it). But there was no personal gain, so it feels a bit marginal. (I suppose Gates won Officer of the Year and must have been in line for another promotion). I think professional standards do fall within their remit, however, as per this rather unfortunate story from last year of the Met's anti-corruption unit facing charges of "serious corruption". Who watches the watchers ...

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 26/03/2019 21:11

If H turns out to be the rather lovely Ted..well..life as we know it is over. That's all.

There are few things in life more satisfying than watching Ted taking someone down a peg simply by addressing them as "Fella". I refuse to believe he is anything other than a paragon of virtue!

pepperpot99 · 27/03/2019 06:40

Thanks Tribpot I think I must have just not managed to see those clips before so I thought they were new. Doh.

I have been thinking about this: apparently there was a screening of the new series episode 1 last week for a 'select' audience (I suppose TV critics and so on) and there are reports of the entire audience gasping in shock at certain points. I now think that it isn't too far fetched that someone whom we believed was dead is actually not dead. Dot maybe? Hunter? It's just a theory I have but I feel like maybe a ghost from the past will emerge. What do others think?

Gosh, that sounds exciting! Can't wait!

longwayoff · 27/03/2019 07:39

Wondering about Gates, S1. I think Ted had been told to keep an eye on him as you rightly say that the laddering was a relatively trivial thing -and not unfamiliar to police. Two ways to look at it? Upright Ted thinking he's too good to be true, must be something more to it. Dodgy Ted (Ducks, sorry) , told to start looking at him as he's resumed a relationship with Jackie who'll be turning him for the Company and they'll need to have something on him for future bribing etc. Hmm. It's still going on!!! Roll on Sunday

longwayoff · 27/03/2019 07:43

Oh, and where's Mr Laverty? We're lacking an introduction, suspicious in itself.

icelollycraving · 27/03/2019 07:45

It’s not Ted. I refuse to believe it. Also the signposting to him. No fella.

longwayoff · 27/03/2019 08:45

I'm with you icelolly, Upright Ted is a bright spot in a murky world.

Acis · 27/03/2019 08:47

Anyone come across the Obsessed with LoD podcast? Just listening to it now.

poundoflard · 27/03/2019 08:52

I can't even read the full thread without getting so confused, how easily my memory has gone!
I'm going to have to binge watch the last series now, no Netflix in this house sadly, but I need to retrieve my old fashioned box set on DVD , but I cant remember who has them. I'm buggered basically aren't I?

But no doubt MNers will solve it by episode three and tie up all the lose ends for me as I fail re remember the main characters names from the start...

Let the series commence........!

longwayoff · 27/03/2019 08:59

Lard, all 4 series on BBC iPlayer. Grab em quickly

poundoflard · 27/03/2019 09:01

@longwayoff

fab, I'll do that and hang a do not disturb sign on the house door.
Sod the kids they can go to someone elses for tea Grin

PlasticPatty · 27/03/2019 09:01

I've watched all four series over the last week. Bloody tedious! Ted, you know, he'll be corrupt. Because of his age. They were all corrupt in the 70s, even those who thought they were straight.

tribpot · 27/03/2019 11:08

I now think that it isn't too far fetched that someone whom we believed was dead is actually not dead
Given we're all hoping Keeley Hawes isn't dead in Bodyguard, what about in LoD too!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/03/2019 11:24

Given we're all hoping Keeley Hawes isn't dead in Bodyguard, what about in LoD too! Nice idea, tribpot, but didn't we see Lindsay Denton killed in cold blood (through the temple) by The Caddy ('Dot' Cottan)? Not sure there's anyway back from that?

PlasticPatty, you could be correct. I guess in series 2 J.M. toyed with us about LD's guilt (or not).

tribpot · 27/03/2019 11:28

We did, NewModel, there is no way she can return.

SuptHastingsLikeTheBattle · 27/03/2019 13:38

Does anyone listen to the Adam Buxton podcast? I don’t know if he calls himself this but some people refer to him as Buckles so I could never take DCI Buckells seriously, I always thought it was a nickname or them taking the piss out of him.

Soverytiredofeverythinggoingon · 27/03/2019 20:50

Rewatching S4 now. OMG forgot just how good it is! (even though I thought it was the least best series, tbh)

longwayoff · 27/03/2019 21:14

Re watching S3 in which Maneet appears. She hasn't been recruited to AC12 but seconded from somewhere else, similar to when Kate suddenly pops up in another squad. Can she be undercover watching the watchers?

Acis · 28/03/2019 01:56

I thought it was reasonably clear that Maneet was handing over information very unwillingly. She seemed very uncomfortable, and it was made pretty clear that she took maternity leave early so as to put a stop to it. So I assume she was being blackmailed or pressurised some other way.

longwayoff · 28/03/2019 06:44

Acis, that too. Nothing is ruled out . . .

DurhamDurham · 28/03/2019 10:11

Just finished rewatching series 4 last night, I was literally on the edge of my seat even though I've seen it before. It was nail biting stuff. I'd forgotten your look on Hastings face at the end, I really hope he's not corrupt by the end of series 5.
Cannot wait for series 5 to begin Smile

poundoflard · 28/03/2019 12:15

Work cancelled, hurrah, continuing to binge watch.

I realise my box set was only 1,2,3 which is ???
good old bbciplayer,

I may have to continue with all series, there are so many little snippets of vital info that can easily be missed.
And despite knowing the endings I was still fearful Huntley would get away with is, you know just to keep us on our toes JM may do the alternative endings scenarios.....now wouldn't that be awesome??
