When is it back? I'm sure I read somewhere that it would be back in April. Does anyone have any theories about the storyline or characters?

The AC12 triumvirate comprising Hastings, Arnott and Fleming will definitely be back.

What about Roz Huntley? and her rather drippy DH ?

Wil Nige feature? and will we find out how and why Maneet was being blackmailed by Hilton?

I can't wait, frankly.

At the end of the last series I was convinced H was Ted but now I've seen the trailer I think they want us to think that but we will end up surprised.

Nothings been said about the Mason's handshake Ted did with the retired police officer who was involved in the children's home in S2 or 3. Can't remember which one. Might watch it again to make sure Grin

GabrielleNelson · 22/03/2019 08:39

Last sight of Jackie's body was being stuffed into the freezer in the flat where the young man with Down's Syndrome lived. He called the police and the bored blonde woman didn't bother to investigate once she saw him. Angry Sad

I wonder when Jed Mercurio had the H idea? It could have been retrofitted to the plot if he happened to notice he'd had a few senior officers with H names or it could have been planned all along in the hope he could get the BBC to keep commissioning new series.

GabrielleNelson · 22/03/2019 08:41

Series 3. I can't remember the actor's name but he's always good value. His character was retired senior police officer Patrick Fairbairn, on the list above.

[spoiler follows for anyone who hasn't seen s3 yet]

Now in prison according to the credits at the end of series 3.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/03/2019 08:46

I have just binge watched all 4 seasons. I am so pleased season 5 is about to start soon. My DDs can't be with me on Mother's Day and my DH is going away so this will be my treat. Can't wait.

Last sight of Jackie's body was being stuffed into the freezer in the flat where the young man with Down's Syndrome lived. He called the police and the bored blonde woman didn't bother to investigate once she saw him. Oh, I recall that but thought there was a subsequent shot of the body in a freezer in some disused factory. With the benefit of hindsight, it wasn't when Steve was being tortured, but when the bent copper from series 1 (Lennie James character) was being beaten up?????? Or am I muddling up the sequencing of scenes?

Also, was the young, friendly beat officer in series 1 (who I think may now be in Casualty as 'Rash') one of the two clearly bent coppers who turned up to 'rescue' Denton (when she'd escaped from the prison van) in the woods?

Have to confess that I speed-watched series 1-4 last week, so probably missed some vital bits.

I reckon Jed Mercurio will have had the 'H' factor in his story arch from the off, so the surnames will have been purposefully chosen. A quick 'google' search suggests that 'H' is the second most common (after B) initial letter of surnames in England (followed by S, W, C and M).

Lurleene · 22/03/2019 09:22

Did any of you catch the Bodyguard spoof on Comic Relief last week? If not you should definitely watch it on iplayer (taps nose).

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/03/2019 09:30

Yes that was really funny, Lurleene. With a focus on RM's character's 'glock' WinkWinkGrin

Rollergirl11 · 22/03/2019 09:41

There is Paul Haleton (doesn’t look like a “H”) and Roger Hyde-Albert on Danny Waldron’s list. Paul Haleton appears on the board of “H”’s, along with Susan Hyde-Albert who poss related to Roger? Hardly a common name after all. Remember Ros was an H too.

Yes Jacqui’s body was definitely being kept in order to blackmail Tony. But now that he’s dead perhaps they got rid.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/03/2019 09:45

Have we knowingly met any of the 'H's on the top row, Rollergirl11? Not sure I recognise any of them?

thenightsky · 22/03/2019 09:48

I'm home all day today and DH due back at 10pm. The temptation to just sit in my pyjamas all day watching is too much. Argh.

Rollergirl11 · 22/03/2019 09:57

I don’t recognise any of them myself. Thing is we don’t really know what the names on Danny’s list are? Were they all involved in the child sex scandal that Danny was trying to get revenge for or are there listed for other reasons? Did Danny already know the names when he killed the old caretaker or did Danny make him write the list of people involved? Why isn’t Dot’s name on the list given that he was “The Caddy”?

Paul Haleton looks much younger than a lot of the other men, similar age to Danny and Dot. Don’t know if that’s relevant or not....

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/03/2019 10:01

I reckon we'll meet at least one of the 'top row' Hs in series 5.

I think that list was specific to the child sex scandal, otherwise Denton, Hilton and Huntley's names would have been included, wouldn't they?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 22/03/2019 10:02

Rollergirl - my theory is that Dot wasn't on Danny's shit list because he was a child victim of the gang too, before being groomed into the hierarchy. Dot must have recognised the names on the list, or some of them, why else would he remove it from the envelope addressed to Arnott?

thenightsky · 22/03/2019 10:11

I know you are all further up to date than me, but I don't understand why Dot would burn the list when he's a member of AC12. Do the other members of AC12 know he's corrupt? Are they keeping him close to watch him? I'm very confused at this point (series 2, ep 2)

Rollergirl11 · 22/03/2019 10:13

Bibbity: well at the very least he recognised Tommy Hunter’s name as he was who originally recruited him as a young boy. But is one of the other names on that list Dot’s top boss?

I’ve kind of forgotten what the relevance of “H” is! Was it that in his dying declaration he was trying to tell Kate who had promoted him and was therefore his boss? Because if it was that then we already know that Hilton was the one that promoted him and we know that he was dodge and he’s now dead. So isn’t he the “H”?

I’m getting all confused now! 🤪😳

Rollergirl11 · 22/03/2019 10:16

NewModel: I don’t think Denton and Huntley were completely corrupt like others. They were circumstantially drawn in to it.

pepperpot99 · 22/03/2019 10:22

bibbity yes I agree, Dot was almost certainly abused by TH and his gang and groomed for years, eventually becoming the Firm's inside man.

Maneet is also in the new series - what's going on with her I wonder.....

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/03/2019 10:32

Rollergirl1, yes, you're right about Denton and Huntley.

Had Lakewell's name appeared in earlier series than the last one?

In series 3, Maneet was a good cop though (wasn't she instrumental in bringing down Cotton). She only went rogue in the last one, didn't she?

CoolCarrie · 22/03/2019 11:38

Maneet give info to Hilton. It will be a huge disappointment if Ted is H, but I think Jed is a better writer than that.
The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of Ted, Kate or Steve at Lindsay’s grave side, I honestly think at least one of them would have been there, she deserved someone there. She did the right thing at the end, and they wouldn’t have cracked the case without her.

Huntlybyelection · 22/03/2019 12:26

I forgot what happened to Maneet! Can someone fill me in?

Actually, if someone could give me a quick precis of each series 1-4 that would help.

For some reason, despite researching each series before a new one starts, the progress of the overall arc never sticks in my head.

pepperpot99 · 22/03/2019 13:02

There can be no such thing as a 'quick precis' of LOD Grin.
Agreed CoolCarrie I thought that was sad too. Only Lindsay was clever enough to work out where Danny had put the list. She never got the recognition she deserved IMO, plus she had a termination (Dryden) which was hard for her as well. Sad.

This BBC resume might help you, Huntlybyelection.

Huntlybyelection · 22/03/2019 16:38
Grin Thank you new model army
