Star Afternoon. Star
I love the Oscars, always have. Haven't seen another thread yet. Posting this for red carpet/fashion/ceremony twaddle. Hopefully some of you will join me later Wine
First show without a host since the Snow White debacle. Disney sued. For those of you interested in that, articles here:
www.lamag.com/longform/snow-job/
and here:

I think Glenn Close's Oscar is long-deserved. Wouldn't mind seeing Reg win for best supporting. Think Black Panther would be worthy enough for Best Film but not sure it will, it would have got a win in the best popular film until they binned the category. Interested whether the Guardian's doc will win and who wins best short. Is it Amy Adams's year finally? no And will Anita Dobson be watching Adam Lambert and Bryan May performing Bohemian Rhapsody on stage? Wine

Evening!

I don't have NowTv or Sky but I'll be following the live blogs for the fashion.

I haven't seen any of the film nominated for Best Picture Blush

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 20:40

Hello gareth lovely, I am just catching up on DOI as we speak. Looking forward to the red carpet monstrosities as ever. I haven't seen as many best pics as I had last year.

Enjoy the DOI catch up!

I distinctly remember reading some blind gossip about the Snow White Oscars but I can't remember what it was about! I've tried googling to no avail.

I'm about to watch your link Grin

Pieinthesky2 · 24/02/2019 21:26

Would love to watch but unless DC wake me, I hopefully will be asleep. Love watching the Red Carpet.

Just hope Christian bale wins and not Rami - I enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody but just don’t get the fawning over his performance. Would love to see Olivia colman win but think it is Glenn Close’s year. Think it will be Regina King although Rachel Weisz might just pip her.

Hope The Favourite wins best picture.

Alexis21 · 24/02/2019 22:18

Waves to fellow Oscar fans I will be up and watching. I love the fashion section on E with the 360 views of all the amazing gowns Smile

EachandEveryone · 24/02/2019 22:24

Im watching the red carpetnow. Normally I stay up all night but ive got hospital appointments tomorrow and Ive been at work all day. TBH Im not feeling any of the films this year but i loved Bohemian Rhapsody and TheWife.

EachandEveryone · 24/02/2019 22:34

Why isnt there a presenter this year?

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 22:56

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6740479/Oscars-2019-Kristin-Cavallari-kicks-red-carpet-91st-Academy-Awards.html

Moderators' dresses up. Wonder if yellow is the in colour this year.
No presenter each because Kevin Hart quit after furore about his previous comments/stand up/tweets about not wanting his son to be gay.

I'm here!!! I have pink gin, Cadbury fingers left over from Christmas I found sealed in a packet at the back of the kitchen cupboard and the coffee pot on for later 😂

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:00

Oh thank God I've found my people!

I cleared Monday for this Blush

It's probably the last time I'll do this because - stamina

I have leftover pizza, booze n snacks

Ryan Seapest is on the Red Carpet Chez Barton as I type

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 23:04

They are having lots of slebs allegedly although there was a last minute rumour Whoopi would host. Ricky Gervais offered to but is considered too close to the bone despite having hosted the globes before.
He would have gone for the throat with Liam Neeson and Bryan Singe mind.
Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda would have been my pick. Or Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Or Maya Rudolph and Tiffany Hadish.
Ah well.

My thoughts in brief

Roma - will win lots of things for being artsy and technically perfect but is self indulgent wankery

Beale Street - a well crafted film but very slow

Green Book - very dated, very by the Numbers, very Oscar Bait

Can You Ever Forgive Me - Brilliant

A Star Is Born - Amazing

The Favourite - Amazing

Blackkklansman - Brilliant film but a definitely not the comedy the trailer sells it as - A HARROWING experience to watch

Alfonso Cuarón got the Oscar for Gravity a few years ago

Roma is tedious

I will consider Spike Lee ROBBED if he doesn't get it and about 3 women should have been nominated for their films and weren't

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 23:09

Singer. I think my typos are going to be bad.

Chocolate Wine
Ah lovely, hello coach and barton - that makes five of us yay! (and gareth on fashion if she's not asleep). I am off to make a jacket spud with philly and corned beef or I won't make it through. Lovely to see people though, back in a bit x

The thing is once they sacked Kevin Hart it was a poisoned chalice

Anyone who took the job was saying

  1. I'm here but I wasn't the first choice
  2. I'm fine to jump into Kevin Harts grave

I don't know Kevin Hart but he seems very popular among his peers

He was accused of homophobia but even Ellen spoke out against his sacking and had him on her show

TowandaForever · 24/02/2019 23:13

How do you watch it on now tv?

TowandaForever · 24/02/2019 23:13

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat

How do you watch the Ocars on now tv?

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:14

It's on the Sky Oscars Channel

It's also live on YouTube in the UK just search Oscars channel

TowandaForever · 24/02/2019 23:14

Unfortunately i don't have sky.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 23:15

Green Book got flak for alleged fibs with the story, mind, so will be interesting whether Reg steals supporting actor as a result. I must admit, I have Netflix but haven't seen Roma yet, despite it recommending it to me (as well as Moonlight which I still haven't seen from hen, 2 years ago?)
Which women/films Barton? I was upset Greta did not get an Oscar for Ladybird last year but then finally got round to watching Get Out last night and could see why Jordan Peele won best screenplay. (For my money, Daniel should have got best actor, sorry Gary).

OP posts:
BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:16

Yes but NowTV has the Sky channels doesn't it

CoachBombay · 24/02/2019 23:18

I'm watching it on Sky Cinema no idea how to get it in any other channel sorry.

I'm really hoping Glenn Close gets an Oscar this evening! I want to see cruella de ville get an Oscar!! Haha

Alexis21 · 24/02/2019 23:18

If you have the movie package on now tv you can watch the Oscars. I got rid of sky and use now tv which came with 1 months free movies . So much cheaper than sky I only wish I had done it sooner.
