Star Afternoon. Star
I love the Oscars, always have. Haven't seen another thread yet. Posting this for red carpet/fashion/ceremony twaddle. Hopefully some of you will join me later Wine
First show without a host since the Snow White debacle. Disney sued. For those of you interested in that, articles here:
www.lamag.com/longform/snow-job/
and here:
www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscars-rob-lowes-snow-white-422225

I think Glenn Close's Oscar is long-deserved. Wouldn't mind seeing Reg win for best supporting. Think Black Panther would be worthy enough for Best Film but not sure it will, it would have got a win in the best popular film until they binned the category. Interested whether the Guardian's doc will win and who wins best short. Is it Amy Adams's year finally? no And will Anita Dobson be watching Adam Lambert and Bryan May performing Bohemian Rhapsody on stage? Wine

Can You Ever Forgive Me - Marielle Heller which I've seen and is brilliant

And two I haven't seen that are supposed to be

Lynne Ramsey - You were never really here

and

Debra Granik - Leave No Trace

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:20

Glenn Close is a LOCK for that Oscar

She is a SEVEN TIME nominee and has never won

Not seen the wife yet

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 23:21

Ah, Leave no trace, Mark Kermode raved about.

Wow, 7 times - you are not wrong, that's more than Amy! Wink
I think you are right. I also think Olivia will take it in good grace.

Hey Towanda

I googled where to watch the Oscars 2019 UK Grin
Now TV came up but I didn't realise it required a special pass. Hopefully you can add one onto your package?

"NOW TV offer a Sky Cinema Pass costs £9.99 a month – although you can get a 14-day free trial if you’re a new customer, and you can always cancel the subscription once the event is over"

Sorry for the confusion!

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:28

Oh don't get me started on Poor Amy Adams!

The year Emma Stone won for La La Land

Amy was in both Nocturnal Animals and Arrival and was nominated for NEITHER when she should have both won and competed against herself!

Ah @RageAgainstTheVendingMachine A BIG HELLO TO JASON Wink

CoachBombay · 24/02/2019 23:29

What is with the horrendous tulle fluffiness this year 🤷 tulle fluffiness should only be seen on a six year olds fancy dress costume!! 😂

That bog brush is so 2017 (emoji movie) and is shite.

I'm enjoying all your reviews!

The fashion is kind of starting but I'm going to check back in nearer midnight. The ceremony starts at 1am GMT so all the top people are probably arriving in the last hour Grin

For all the Ru Paul's drag race fans out there, Shangela is serving fishy realness!

EachandEveryone · 24/02/2019 23:33

Glenn Close is just magnificent in anything. Im over Olivia Coleman.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 24/02/2019 23:34

I love Emma Stone (well I loved her early-middle career) but La la land was SHIT!

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 23:35

Okay. Potato. Focus.

OP posts:
RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 24/02/2019 23:36

Ah gareth yep, I saw Shangela!! Grin

Olivia Colman would be winning if Glenn Close wasn't overdue

What annoys me about the US media coverage on her is this notion that she's

The Little Engine That Could

And is this older actress who has achieved overnight stardom when in fact she's grafted in the UK for years

I understand she has detractors BUT you can't really argue with the talent of someone who has won a TV BAFTA for both drama and comedy

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 24/02/2019 23:47

Lol Rage what's Shangela doing there, are there more queens to come? Hope so Grin

I'd like to see Olivia win! Do her or Emma (Best Supporting) stand any chance? I'm rubbish at understanding betting odds! I know she's much more than Peep Show but I still get a kick out of seeing Olivia (Soph!) up there with all the Hollywood royalty Grin

Thanks for the YouTube tip BartonHollow

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:50

Richard E Grant has just attempted to banter Seapest who had clearly had a Full Banter Bypass Grin

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:54

Olivia has a chance but it is seen as a done deal

Emma has no chance but Rachel Weisz is seen as the person with a shot for taking it from Regina King

Having seen both, I mean Rachel Weisz is an integral part of the film and she's brilliant

Regina really has a "support" part and her nomination is really only based on two scenes. She is AMAZING in both those scenes but STILL

CoachBombay · 24/02/2019 23:55

Barton I snorted in to my gin and laughed at "she's having my twins" he clearly just didn't get it 😂

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 24/02/2019 23:55

Is there a YouTube live feed? Does anyone have a link? I've found a Twitter one:

mobile.twitter.com/i/events/1080864576076279808

BartonHollow · 24/02/2019 23:56

It was the correct way to answer his usual bland farty questioning

BartonHollow · 25/02/2019 00:00

Ok so it comes up on YouTube on the App on my TV but not my phone so I can't link

Put Oscars into the search you are looking for the official channel on YouTube if you have a Smart TV

BartonHollow · 25/02/2019 00:02

Oh it will be listed as"upcoming event"

IHeartKingThistle · 25/02/2019 00:07

I'm here! Love the Oscars.

DH and I decided last April to watch all 90 Best Picture winners before the 91st Oscars. We finished them last night just in time! I feel like a proper Oscars expert now except I haven't had time to watch any of this year's nominees Grin

Richard E Grant is making me happy.
