Anyone watching?

The ads looked good but I’m a bit bored by the cliched/lazy writing already.

I haven't disparaged her for gambling so I guess you can't be talking to me either.

I think I must be a total conundrum to you. I've been to private school but more recently you will have found me at my local Food Bank. Privilege can vanish.
My store card debt was racked up due to it being the only way to buy shoes, school uniform and clothes such as warm winter coats for my children. It certainly didn't feel like gambling to me although the desperation may be common to both gamblers and people buying on credit.

Buffers and safety nets?

I still think the programme is shit. Is that ok?

I'm not really sure what your point is tbh. I can't really see past the huge chip on your shoulder.

Bumbalaya Also how many people disparaging her for gambling have (unsecured) loans and credit cards? Surely another form of gambling!

Loans and credit cards aren’t gambling! They’re loans and credit. There is no way of “winning” that money back. The law says you have to pay or face a punishment.

I waited ten years to have children, saved up, so I didn’t have money troubles. I owe nothing, mortgage paid off, never had a loan, credit cards only used for insurance and paid off at the end of the month. However I do not disparage people who use loans. It’s a service you pay for. Gambling and getting into debt is a bad choice however.

i enjoyed tho obv a few flaws , ie leaving computer desks open and yes her hair, def not poor dye job

saying that, a diy kit at home is £5

i do like ss, love her in jonathon creek

i think it will be good

and whoever said that credit cards = gambling is wrong

yes its spending that some dont need to do

but others need it as replies said, for fod/bills/clothes for kids

I can't help thinking there's going to be some sort of (probably nasty) incident with that coffee grinder in the cafe.

Poking it with a screwdriver doesn't sound like the best idea to me....

There's obviously a deliberate attempt at a connection between the gambling and trading. I think the lodger and his tut is to have someone who can fix machines and set up tech for her as well as an extra male character.

WheresThatCatGoneNow Oh I’d forgotten about that bit.

Maybe they’ll have a “need the money to pay for medical expenses... who can blame them” plot!

I'm watching but I'm losing interest tbh. Hard to root for such an unlikable character, and her puffy face and wandering accent are off putting.

How does noone notice her using the bloody computers.

Report
Cherrypie32 · 16/01/2019 21:43

At the recruitment agency she didnt mention she could use a computer (only lying about excel) but she seems pretty proficient to me!

fusioluxe · 16/01/2019 21:43

Yes, that bit was a bit strange! Should have skipped that and gone straight to the fire alarm.

Cherrypie32 I thought she was going to wing the Excel test and I actually would have believed that 😁

Just watched episode two and think I have morphed into Gran from the Catherine Tate show. 'What a load of old shite'.

It's so dull, nothing happens apart from SS continually gambling, stealing from her friend and all the time getting deeper into debt.

How many episodes are there??

Report
southeastdweller · 17/01/2019 00:00

Four more.

The plot line in this is so tedious. I'm going to stick with it. Possibly so I can hope for something.

The computer stuff was bizarre. She looked quite proficient to me. (Apart from leaving the pen drive on the desk)

Jess - I like her character. She wore her hurt at her friends treatment of her. Her ambition is a joy to watch.

Sam - the character is not likeable but I understand why they've made her this way. There are many that are in a spiral of debt and use gambling as a way out. (The rise of women-friendly adverts for bingo etc is telling on this during the day - it's targeting mothers that stay at home)

I'm going to plough on with it.

Her ex didn't exactly fight very hard to keep hold of the kids, did he? "I think it's best the girls come home with me now"...oh ok then, and that was that!

Report
fusioluxe · 17/01/2019 11:03

Her ex is still in love with her. Just can’t live with the gambling. He isn’t a great dad though, they stay at his place and he goes out. He’s never actually done anything with them at all.

fusioluxe · 17/01/2019 11:05

I don’t know much about gambling, can you still get the same high by playing not for money, for points? Does it have to be a real life risk?
