Anyone watching?

The ads looked good but I’m a bit bored by the cliched/lazy writing already.

What did I just watch. 6 episodes and I’m still none the wiser. So many plot holes, I gave up trying to understand it. The lady in dulwich never noticed her missing coat-the lodger not getting paid. Why was he there, thought he was going to add to the plot twist.

Who was Frances in the end?

If they make a second series I won’t bother. The only good thing was the theme tune.

I agree with you all. Too many unresolved plot points.

Coat needs to be returned.
Lodger needs to be paid back.
Jess needs her 6k back.
Sam should have got a receipt off the loan shark.
Jess and Lodger needed to get together or have a first date or something.
The stolen gold watch the kid stole, hope that went back.
The girls are at their dads, which is surely the ultimate bad result is it not?
The business baddies were arrested and charged off screen, so no drama there. Why couldn't we see that? That's a highlight in the film Wall Street!
SO many cool things could have happened but they just didn't.
Every time she got cash to resolve the problems she gambled it leaving us viewers annoyed and bored by her when we should have seen her spending money and being badass.
No one learnt from their mistakes and just vowed to continue a new venture breaking the law.

Just watched the final episode and wish I hadn't bothered. What a load of drivel. The underlying message of this really bothers me.

Sams behaviour was reprehensible, repeatedly lying to and stealing considerable amounts of money from her best friends. Yet we are meant to be delighted that she got away with it and combed the £50k out of the insider trading gang.

Her gambling addiction was glossed over. Nah, don't bothered going to gamblers anonymous- just keep gambling, lying and stealing and it will all turn OK?ConfusedHmm

Conned not combed - that would be weird...

Report
DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/02/2019 15:45

She conned the 50k out of the baddies, and used it to pay off her debts. Also gave undisclosed amount to her daughters college fund.

Doesn’t that make her an accessory ?

I thought she was going to go into business with Swanny who seemed to fancy her, but that plot went no where.

The daughters BF is a boxer, but didn’t try and fight of the middle aged podgy loan shark.

It could have been so good, but it fell so,short.

Not surprised it was a novice writer. Also each episode was directed by a different director each time, so agin a lack of continuity.

There were just so many basic errors it just made the whole thing unbelievable.

Why would a landlord give back the deposit to the husband without getting a new deposit off Sam first? So now she’s got someone in her property and no deposit.

No one working for a firm dealing with sensitive information would leave computers logged in with info on the screen, especially if they’d left for the day. It would be a disciplinary matter where I work.

The ‘pretty woman’ bit in the shop where the sales assistant was looking down on her wouldn’t happen, and doesn’t everyone know that really wealthy people often dress shabbily?

Her pattern of buying and selling shares would raise flags if she’s buying just before they go up then selling straight after.

The whole thing was daft. One of those programmes you wish you'd not bothered.

I gave up watching after the 1st episode. Good call by the sound of it.

Matthew McNulty (the ex husband) was the only reason I kept watching

I didn't think Frances was undercover. If she was I totally missed that. I thought she pretended at the end to be undercover to save her own skin and that it was Jess and the other cleaner who masterminded recording them. Then when Frances went to the locker she had to side with the cleaners or else be arrested for her part.

CurbsideProphet · 15/02/2019 23:04

I couldn't work out why they kept going on about paying for the daughter to go to university. Surely she would get tuition fee and maintenance loans like everyone else Confused

@PrincessScarlett at the end Frances went into a meeting and it became obvious she had been undercover as a compliance officer. She was seeing through the deals to get more evidence.

Report
PrincessScarlett · 15/02/2019 23:26

I thought she was faking it curbside and the FCA person was telling Frances they would need to reassign her while they investigated what went on under her nose. So Frances basically said she had caught the others but she hadn't and obviously the cleaners weren't going to drop her in it as they had taken the money and could do with having her on side. If Frances really was undercover she could have just had Sam arrested for her part in it all. The fact she didn't makes me think she was just as dodgy but managed to save herself.

Report
DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/02/2019 08:22

The end with Frances was so rushed I wasn’t sure what happened. She obviously saved herself and didn’t dob in the cleaners as Sam hadn’t lied for her.

I didn’t think she was FCA, but still working in compliance.

Report
VanGoghsDog · 16/02/2019 09:54

She was definitely FCA, she didn't dob in Sam because Sam was nothing, small fry, not what she was after. She got the guys she was after.
The FCA don't care about simple theft, they card about insider trading and bank irregularities so she was after the other guy.
Her boss said she would now be on a leave of absence so she was clean for the next job. Internal compliance staff don't need that!

I watched it because I hoped it would be like the one Caroline Quentin was in years ago, where she was a cleaner at the place where old banknotes were destroyed. She & her friends stole thousands, by doing something clever like painting white padlocks black and then she cleaned the paint off with solvents. Anyone else remember this?

Anyway, it was nowhere near as good!

I had to look it up but that tv film was called ' hot money' and based on a true story.
It aired in 2001.

JustDanceAddict · 16/02/2019 13:29

Agree ending was very rushed esp the Frances bit. So she was FCA I think but it wasn’t made clear, really.
Sam was an awful character and they were too sympathetic to her. Should’ve made an example out of her gambling and Jess should’ve got her coffee cart off the ground.

VanGoghsDog · 16/02/2019 13:46

Nothing was really made clear and none of it made sense.

I remember 'Hot Money' it was really good. That's the one based on a true story. They were working in the cash incineration plant in Essex, where old bank notes go to be destroyed as they are no longer good enough to be in general circulation. Before the cash went into the incinerator it had to be counted. (For it's value or it's number of notes maybe. Plot device or fact, I don't care)

But they found out a way of defrauding the system as has been advised in a previous post.

One of the women's husband's was pleased he had so much cash to spend. She told him to stop throwing his money around and put it somewhere safe. So he did. He opened up a deposit account with a building society. I mean, why should they care that an ordinary bloke had thousands of pounds in cash to be deposited. Doh !

I don't think he had the presence of mind for a cover story like Sam's i.e. my grandad died and the buyer of his antique sports car insisted on paying cash.

Hot Money! Many thanks to The80sweregreat!

I remember they smuggled the money out in their bras/knickers, having got one of the security guards in on their plan, who waved them through the supposedly random exit search on predetermined days. Then they washed the money in their washing machines at home. I'd love to see it again.

The landlord bit was was not technically correct but as it was only on for 6 weeks how could you not see her ask Sam to leave straightway. Common sense.
