Totally agree that Sheridan's character (can't even remember her name) is totally unlikeable. Is this deliberate so by the end there's going to be some sort of twist? Even so, she's such an awful person with all the lying, hit and run, gambling, laziness as a cleaner that I don't really care about her at all.

Also agree that there's no way she would have been able to access the computers and every corporate/financial environment I've been in has CCTV everywhere.

Just watched ep1. Disappointingly poor, unbelievable plot and unsympathetic characters. I think the kids would be better off with the Dad as SS's character is a gambler and a liar - to her employers, her friends, her kids school and the kids themselves.

Really hope we are not supposed to be rooting for her, am hoping she is caught and punished.

I think it’s hard to get the balance right between likeable character and human character. They’ve made her very human, which is good. Quality drama can’t have perfect characters, it’s not cbeebies. But they’ve made her an unpleasant human that I think most of us would swerve IRL. There is nothing redeeming (so far). I understand the husband cheating and leaving her for OW plus custody battle is supposed to be what makes us feel for her but they haven’t gotten it quite right. It’s almost as though the writers haven’t actually met anyone in this situation IRL so have just guessed what she would be like. Also get the impression they don’t like poor single mothers.

Having watched it, there's no feeling for me in her character. I haven't worked out yet if that's because she is SS or that the plot line is poorly researched.

That said, the online gambling is something I've seen in women. My DP's ex wife is a huge online gambler. It drains the life out of her and my step children are constantly worried surrounding her levels of engagement. (They're adults)

With that much investment and out of control debt, I'm predicting a fall in the plot line of the character. Highs/lows/guilt/excitement/ guilt/greed/guilt.

I thought the teenage daughter was superb. She's got that rolling the eyes, despairing of her mother and suffering because of the mothers behaviours. I'll continue to watch.

And society as a whole, is still not fond of single mothers.

I agree the acting of the older daughter was good, but the difficult teenage girl is such a cliche these days, on television and in fiction.

I was/am hoping this would be a jolly romp - sort of a cross between At Home With The Braithwaites and the film Mad Money!

I will stick with it, although I agree her accent could be better. Surprising when you remember how good she was as Smithy's sister in Gavin and Stacey.

I thought the twist would be that they catch him doing his inside trading, uncover a whole dodgy network and get a reward or sell the story to a newspaper.

Cleaning Up to also mean, sorting out dodgy dealing.

I'm going to stick with it though.

Sheridan always seems to play the hard done by single mother.
I’ve worked in security at corporate office blocks, there would often be lots of people on the floors working way into the night.
And wasn’t the girls teacher in Brookside?

Sheridan interviewed about the character here www.digitalspy.com/tv/a25577263/sheridan-smith-talks-itv-cleaning-up/ and said she didn’t play the part as likeable. Quite interesting really.

I’m sticking with it. There’s supposed to be a surprise ending!
