Has anyone else watched this? It’s on the BBC iPlayer, and I watched it this morning. It’s a documentary that explores the brothers’ time in the band and a bit about what they’ve done since the split. Weirdly, the third member of Bros, Craig, was airbrushed out - not mentioned or even referenced at all. It mostly focussed on a come back concert that they performed at the O2.

In my opinion, neither brother came across particularly well - they both have huge egos and want to be the ‘boss’ in the band. They’ve spent most of the last 25 years in the States, and take themselves way too seriously.

I did enjoy it, but, probably, for the wrong reasons - it was cringeworthy and a bit of a car crash. Would be interested in hearing what others thought of it.

I couldn't decide if they were taking the piss or not, particularly Matt, he is either seriously deluded or a comic genius.

DisposableNN · 27/12/2018 23:15

Just watched this. Fucking hell Matt is awful!

TheEgyptianKing · 28/12/2018 09:18

I know - massively deluded! Don’t think either of them come across particularly well.

It definitely seemed like a parody in parts with both of them taking themselves way too seriously.

Oh good gracious - they were both so up themselves. Just cringeworthy.

Alienspaceship · 28/12/2018 09:20

I wanted to like them, I really did. Astonished that there were fans at the airport.

TuftyBum · 28/12/2018 09:28

I had dinner with Craig (and others, not just us) a few years after Bros finished and he was working in the music business. He was a nice chap, no visible ego, no one mentioned Bros.

I will watch the show as I find this sort of show fascinating.

TheEgyptianKing · 28/12/2018 09:28

Oh God, the manscaping comments 🙈 🤮

I couldn’t work out whether it was actually a spoof like The Office but ended up thinking it couldn’t be. I can’t believe Craig, or Ken as Smash Hits used to call him, didn’t get a mention despite the fact they were forced to show him in clips sometimes.

“We were going to be called Epitome. That was our clever moment.” (pronouncing it Ep i tome).

I thought Matt was like MC Grindah from People Just Do Nothing in his self delusion - although he must have talent to sustain the Las Vegas work.

ThanosSavedMe · 28/12/2018 09:35

I thought it was really sad. Neither of them seemed to be happy with how their lives turned out

Northernlass69 · 28/12/2018 11:21

Very bizarre and David Brent esque. So much pain. Very successful though.

Hobbes8 · 28/12/2018 11:29

I haven’t seen this but it sounds fascinating. Did anyone see that show The Big Reunion that was on ITV2 a few years ago? It had loads of hasbeen bands that reunited for a concert - people like atomic kitten and 911, that sort of era.

All their stories were so similar - how they’d basically been chewed up and spat out by the music industry and felt very bitter about how it had all turned out. It was so sad how they’d all jumped at the chance to do it all again for the show given how awful it had been the first time round. It must be such a strange industry.

DisposableNN · 28/12/2018 12:51

I remember the Big Reunion. Yes, so so sad how they when used, exploited and told what to do and say.
Bros had to appear on Wogan just after their sister died just so they could receive a gold disc. Heartbreaking.
Has the industry changed?
Both of them looked full if sadness (plus a lot of navel gazing and wanky talk) but I still warmed to Luke more. Matt and his hats, his crap analogies, the way he spoke to his brotheelr and his ep-i-tome (which made me laugh) didn't make me warm to him so much.

Piffpaffpoff · 28/12/2018 12:53

Looking at the stage sets is getting almost Spinal Tap-esque....

“This one is great, it actually looks like real pyrotechnics”

  • “It is real pyrotechnics”

“Eh?”

  • “No, it is real pytotechnics. Ha ha, ‘ looks like real pyro...’ 🤣”

“Oh” stomps off in huff

DisposableNN · 28/12/2018 12:56

Matt looked like he was stuck in a time warp with his outfits etc.
Was Luke still with the same woman whose ring he had to sell when he left Bros? I watched it late last night Blush

DisposableNN · 28/12/2018 12:58

And all the time with the "bro", " man", "dude" "love you", " you're not hearing me", "I'm hearing you" whilst putting the most passive aggressive person to shame!

DisposableNN · 28/12/2018 12:59

The pyrotechnics thing made me laugh - Matt stropped! Grin

cushioncovers · 28/12/2018 15:20

Well I'm 15 mins in and I'm cringing.

Karmagoat · 28/12/2018 15:29

I used to be a brosette back in the day, my sil got us tickets to see Matt in concert at Wembley a couple of years ago and it was bloody awful. I agree he takes himself way too seriously and seems stuck on still thinking he's relevant, quite sad really. I haven't watched this yet though.

cushioncovers · 28/12/2018 15:37

48 mins in and it hasn't got any better. They take themselves sooo seriously. They haven't smiled once. It's almost comical.

Weezol · 28/12/2018 15:41

I too notice the lack of Craig, Glad to hear from PP he's doing well. I always assumed he'd still be in the industry beavering away in the writing/production side.

Of the two, Luke came across better, he had some integrity and seemed the more intelligent and adult of the two. Luke's wife came to England with him. I think he'd be quite interesting to talk to and seemed more engaged with those around him.

Matt was an utter diva and spouted a lot of 'self-help book' rubbish - he appeared to have got emotionally stuck in his early twenties. He seemed to have a rotating cast of 'assistants' rather than any family which I thought was sad. He's found his niche in Vegas and makes a good living at it - but he didn't seem particularly happy in himself.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 28/12/2018 15:56

I'm reminded of the great philosophical question Bros posed which was "when will I be famous?"

Of course the answer was 'for a short period in the late eighties.' Grin

(Credit to Trevor and Simon there)

Fromage · 28/12/2018 16:22

Poor Matt Goss. He clearly is of lower intelligence and thinks he's clever. And important.

I felt sorry for Luke, he seemed OK and has made a living for himself acting. I think it sounds like his life is sorted - he's been married forever and has a family and a career. I wonder what was in it for him - he was no longer playing the drums, so maybe he was short of cash? Or felt he should do his brother a favour?

Of the two of them, it seemed that Matt needed and wanted a second bite at pop stardom, whereas for Luke it was maybe meant to be more of an interesting work project. Only he forgot his bossy brother was a thicko with no sense of humour and too big an ego. No surprise the rest of the tour was cancelled.

I expect Ken has spent the last 30 years laughing all the way to the bank.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 28/12/2018 16:24

Oooooh! I can't wait to watch this!

cushioncovers · 28/12/2018 19:21

Well that was just miserable and dull to watch.

PurpleNailVarnish · 28/12/2018 21:02

Watched it with DH and we thought it was hilarious deaths of their DM and DSis were sad and tragic, obviously otherwise it was very Spinal Tap.
