A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the Kdrama-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, but the more seriously addicted have other sources, including dramabus. Oh, I didn’t realise Henry Lau was in Oh My Venus. He was also in Super Junior (along with Siwon and Heechul).

I’m a few episodes into Where Stars Land. It’s ok. Not brilliant but it was dh’s turn to choose, so.

Do you all know the Soompi app? It’s the ‘gossip’ feed of news etc connected to Viki and it’s good to keep up with kpop/ kdrama news. What I’ve learned from this is:

1. Sending a coffee truck to a friend when they are filming a programme is a thing apparently.
2. One short interview can be spun out into a LOT of articles.
3. Idols and actors have to apologise for a lot, and i’m fairly certain they all follow a form apology.
4. Ditto if a star has done anything out of the ordinary that might have concerned fans ie tripped over, had a mild cold, been unable to attend an event. It always starts along the same lines as ‘Hi, it’s xxx. Wow, it’s been a long time hasn’t it. I’m sorry for making my fans worried...’
5. Agency announcements also start in a similarly casual way.
6. This one’s the weirdest. At the moment the trend seems to be that people are accusing the parents of idols/ actors etc of fraud. For the last few weeks it seems like every day a new idol is posting a statement (see format mentioned above) about how their parents have been accused of borrowing money 20-odd years ago from a friend/acquaintance, then doing a runner. I think after the first news story broke a few weeks ago a lot of people have massively jumped on the bandwagon. Often it’s incredibly obvious it’s bollocks but on at least 2 occasions the idol has basically had to say ‘I haven’t seen my dad for x years because he was dodgy, abusive, always trying to get money off me so I went nc’ so that basically comes across as a ‘yeah it’s probably true, now leave me alone’ from them.
7. Anti-fans and people leaving malicious comments about stars being prosecuted on a regular basis.

Boatyard - not when he wants to watch ‘meh’ stuff

It is great to be honest as we both fan girl/ fan boy pretty hard over it and we have the same frames if reference. My family think we’re one of those ‘weird’ couples though plus he tends to fall asleep midway through episodes and I have to stop. It’s a blessing I haven’t murdered him tbh. That’s also how I got into Running Man - so I can watch something when he’s asleep.

He’s learning Japanese though whereas i’m Learning Korean, so that’s a bummer.

I also wanted to thank one of knowledgable Korean posters for mentioning “couple dressing” because I got the significance of a scene in Oh My Venus where make lead gives the female leading a matching scarf (but different colourway). Would have totally missed that a few weeks ago.

I found a really cracking Korean film on Netflix this evening called Red Carpet about a porn director who wants to make the (mainstream) filmscripts he writes and his struggle to break out of porn. It has a romance and lots of the bingo card: piggybacks, rooftop apartment, wrist grab. DH watched the first half with me before turning in and commented on how sweet it was, in spite of all the nudity and sexual banter at the beginning.

Excellent, will look at that - films might be the way forward over Christmas.
Had (grownup) DSs & their girlfriends over for dinner and am now down 2 bottles of soju😭😭The plum & grape flavours are v nice.
However have 1 ep left of Sassy GoGo and my main question is when is Jisoo going to be the ML and get the girl? Are they mad?

Heechuloppa I have lost many an hour wandering through Soompi, not that familiar with Asian Wiki. I’ve also noticed the coffee truck thing, which is then plastered with huge pics of the giver 🤨

Bea will check the BTS vids out. I am a sucker for good cinematography too, used to work in post-production so love all that.

Heechuloppa! I blame you for my current BTS obsession... it's not good for a 40 odd year old to be fangirling !!!
Been watching their YouTube vids and just watched their reaction vid to their own MV (Mic Drop) and i think it's just sooo cute how they are impressed with how good the video is and they just don't seem to realise how good they are! It's very endearing!
Yup watched Blood Seat and Tears but have to say Spring Day and Not Today are top of my list... sort of watching BTS vids as they're shorter than watching a whole KDrama!!!!

Listening to So Ji-Sub's playlist on Spotify while doing cards, it's swinging along nicely! Have added a lot to my playlists, it's all a bit funkier than the usual kdrama actor fare, much though I do like JCW & PSJ's singing voices.

Can I ask whether the Viki account has to directly linked to an Apple account if I want to watch it through our AppleTV box, which is linked to DH’s Apple account?

Hahahahahahaha. DH had a day off and has been watching BTS videos on YouTube with DS2. He conceded over dinner they are goid and the songs were “catchy”. DS1, DS2 and I are now watching BTS videos.

Got to give it to them for perfecting their craft.

BTS are amazing, I am hypnotised by the perfection of their moves, they must work at it so hard.

boatyardblues I don't know the answer to your question as my Apple box is too old, so I only watch Viki on my laptop & phone. However once DH has stopped watching football I will have a go with my phone to see if Airplay will work with Viki.

By the way, another good stocking filler is a family Spotify account. Bit pricey maybe at £14.99 per month but you can have up to 5 people at the same address with their own individual accounts on it. Then you don't get the rubbish adverts. It has revolutionised how we listen to music.
