Way too invested in this imaginary man Grin

I will be so sad if season 6 is the last season. There is so much more to tell.

I actually can't believe Brianna and Roger actually left. That doesn't happen for a while yet, in the books. It makes me think that they are cramming everything in so that they can tie it up next season. I might actually cry.

I can't believe none of the book readers know where Roger, Bree and Jem ended up! Very frustrating! Wink

Did you see the David Berry has confirmed this was his last episode on Outlander? It doesn't sound promising for future seasons!

This is what I saw. Maybe he wants to keep us guessing.

That was emotional. I agree that they are rushing through by bringing forward Roger and Bree leaving. I hate the storyline that's coming up next Sad so grim.

I think the rushing has meant the events are a bit crammed 1) Roger neatly dies 2) Jamie nearly dies 3) Bree is kidnapped and nearly sold as a sex slave 4) Claire is kidnapped. I know life in the Americas was dangerous, but it seems a bit much so close together.

Yes, Donner is there and Hodgepile. Is Lionel Brown the new villain now?

Lessstressedhemum · 04/05/2020 17:38

Yes, Lionel brown is the Gillian, at least in the books.

When roger and Brianna travel back, the do it from Cuba, I think, or possibly Ocracoke, I can't quite remember, it's been a while since I read that bit. They come out in the present (1980 ish) and see cars. But it's fine, because Rover has been carving all the kids "vrooms", so they aren't scared.

It really is looking like they'll be stopping at 6, isn't it. Roger and Brianna gone, no 2nd baby, Lord John leaving. 💔

Duckingell · 04/05/2020 17:40

So Bree and Roger didn't go back to 1970s?

Who kidnapped Claire?

Seems like a lot happened this episode.

Good news that LJG is taking Ulysses to England though.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/05/2020 18:01

Lionel brown and his group of horrors kidnapped Claire, if it's the same as the book. Bree and Rog should be in the 70s but who knows.

I am going to be bereft after next week.

ToyKitchenSink · 04/05/2020 23:21

That was such an interesting episode. We're in uncharted waters now, aren't we? I felt that emotions and family were captured so well. It's great to see DG's touch.

Re David Berry, they haven't even started filming series 6 yet so there's hope. But I don't recall Lord John much in the next book - so maybe not. Argh I can't remember and now they're bringing forward some plot lines, I'm totally confused! Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 05/05/2020 09:32

Does Brianna not spot William disembarking in ABOSAA and then tell John about her and her mother in return for info and a meet? Or is that Echo in the bone?

He's certainly back in the later books because he marries Claire when Jamie is presumed lost at sea.

Lessstressedhemum · 05/05/2020 09:35

What I don't think they've made enough of, this season, is the tightrope that Jamie is walking between the British and the rebels. Perhaps we will see more of that next season. The later books have all kind of blurred together in my brain and I can't remember exactly what happens when.

This thread is making me want to read the books, I’ve only read up to about a quarter of book two, and then have stuck to the series - I think the chat about the gathering put me off 😂

So in the books do roger and Brianna travel back again?

I can’t bear the thought that the next series could be the last, I’m so invested in it.

shartsi · 05/05/2020 10:11

Myfan, yes in the books Roger and Brianna travel back because their baby is born with a heart condition that Claire is unable to operate on. They go on to live at Lallybroch. It seems Jamie has some sort of powers where he is able to see their new life in his dreams. Also the new child has some powers. I need to read book 8 again to remember. The books are so long. Anyway at the end of book 8, they return to the 18th century.

Myfanwyprice · 05/05/2020 17:38

Ah, thank you for that, I was going to say a power to see where they are in his dreams sounds a bit far fetched, but considering everything else that happens, powers in dreams is pretty mainstream!

Lessstressedhemum · 06/05/2020 09:22

He has "the sight" in a way, but only connected to Claire, Brianna and the kids. It was hinted at in earlier books when he had dreamed of Claire in the future.

OP posts:
mateysmum · 06/05/2020 10:13

There were a few key points from the book that I thought they could have included. Roger wanting to become a minister, Roger and Bree's daughter being the reason they decided to go back not just Roger being a whinging misfit , and Claire and Jamie going with them to the stones. I think all those elements could have been included and made their departure more emotional.

What about the newspaper report and the fire? Is that next week?

Still, I did enjoy this episode. I think Diana's writing brings a bit of emotional truth between Claire and Jamie that is missing in some recent episodes. --And Jamie was looking verrry handsome this week I thought.

I shall be devastated if this really was David Berry's last episode. Lord John is still such an important character in the books and I love watching DB's portrayal of him.

mateysmum · 06/05/2020 17:46

Seems it is true about David Berry. Don't know if he asked to leave or his contract was not renewed. Whichever, this suggests.even if S6 is the final season as rumoured that they will either have to recast Lord John - unthinkable! or they will have to make enormous changes from the book as LJG is key to driving certain plot lines.

Shosha1 · 07/05/2020 20:55

As of yet, Starz and Sony have only commissioned up to season 6.

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe signed 7 year contracts. Not seven seasons. Season 6 will be their seventh year of filming.

Lord John is not seen in the 6th book. And possibly David Berry only signed on till season 5.

If the series gets more seasons, which as its Starz biggest money maker, and if the two main leads are willing to carry on, it may well do, then David Berry may well be seen again.

For anyone one who has read the books knows, Jenny Murray takes a major part again in later books and Ian Murray senior makes a brief appearance.

Neither of the actors who play them are still under contract I dont think. Laura Donelly didn't appear in season 4 as she would have in the books. And she has just signed for a new series. And Steven Cree is now that series about witches, so maybe they will be recast.

And can you now tell I am far far too invested in this programme after being locked down since early March 😆

Lessstressedhemum · 08/05/2020 09:32

I was thinking about Jenny and Ian Mor. They could get away with a recast, I think, because by book 7, Ian is very, very I'll and frail and Jenny is a good bit older than when we last saw her, so maybe.

I kind of hope that, if we get season 7 onwards, they either change William's storyline or they scale it right back.

OP posts:
ToyKitchenSink · 08/05/2020 10:14

I'm so intrigued to see what they'll do. For me , my instinct tells me that there's a 50:50 chance they'll continue beyond series 6 due to logistics, costs and the true will of the stars to sign up for more when they can probably earn more money elsewhere.

Myfanwyprice · 09/05/2020 18:36

On Catrionas Instagram, she has posted a preview of this weeks episode, someone has asked if this is the last series and she has replied ‘we will be back for season 6 and hopefully more after that’.

JADS · 09/05/2020 19:48

I bloody love David Berry. I hope he isn't done. Honestly, he swans around set having insane chemistry with everyone. He makes you want to go and read inappropriate fan fic.

I liked this episode. Good emotional beats. Really loving Ian at the moment. I definitely didn't get the feeling that the McKenzies are done with the past though (Not a book reader)

BonnesVacances · 09/05/2020 21:17
