A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

Ulysses is probably going to get into big trouble for killing the dodgy lawyer. A black man murdering a white man?

Duckingell · 28/04/2020 18:31

I'm so happy that Bonnet is dead.

He was such a bad bad man.

Eek, bloody good point, I didn’t even think of that (white privilege in action I guess) goodness I hope he’s ok. Hopefully they can cover it up. Say he had a heart attack or something.

Jocasta and Ulysses can’t be having an affair in the show though, he helped her to sneak around and meet Murtagh. And how can she be so blasé about owning slaves if she’s in love with a black man?

Lessstressedhemum · 29/04/2020 10:28

He will be in a lot of trouble. That sort of thing carried a death sentence. As far as I recall, Ulysses goes into hiding, but things are out of order in the show, so I don't know how they will handle it.

I don't know, "Opthalmos*, but in the books she owns loads of slaves without any qualms and still has a years long secret love affair with Ulysses, who remains her slave throughout so that he can stay near her.

Just listened to the Outlander podcast with Matthew Roberts for episode 10 and he said - somewhat pointedly - with reference to some folks saying season 6 is the last: "We always want more Outlander. As far as I know, I dont know its the last season - I dont know that - thats all I am saying"

Sounds hopeful Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 30/04/2020 19:43

That's hopeful news. I know that book 6 would be a sensible stopping place but I don't want it to end.

I guess it would not be easy to adapt the rest of the books for TV. More and more characters are added in the latter books, especially during the civil war. Plus in my opinion I found the whole grown up William Ransom story quite boring, he isn't likeable.

OpthalmosVerde · 30/04/2020 22:44

For it to have longevity as a generational saga then Bree and Roger need to be developed more, along with Ian, Fergus and Marsali, who would need to be let in on where Claire comes from.

I’d like a spinoff where Young Ian goes through the stones to the 70s.

Lessstressedhemum · 01/05/2020 09:13

Grown up William is a bit of a brat, really. His existential crisis is laughable.

He is, immature spoilt and extemely ungrateful and ungracious about all the help he gets from Ian and Jamie - kept waiting for the pair of them to give him a big wake up call.

He is a VERY lucky boy to be Jamie's son and have all those fabulous genes Grin

Mytholmroyd · 01/05/2020 11:59

I'd like to see Jamie as a general tho, and back in Scotland, and Jenny in the US and more LJG

Shosha1 · 02/05/2020 06:22

@Mytholmroyd. Just wait for series 6 and 7( if we get 7).

I've read all the books 😉😉

Mytholmroyd · 02/05/2020 11:07

Oooh can't wait Grin

just rewatching season 1 with the subtitles on on the bluray discs including the longer alternative Reckoning episode - surprised how much I missed first/second time through or have forgotten over the years.

I wish they would release all the longer uncut versions whilst we wait for season 6

quirkychick · 02/05/2020 11:09

Doesn't Ian get let in on the time travelling later? I think they are amalgamating lots of threads of the story. The various battles of the Revolution are quite complicated and they do lurch from one drama adventure to another. I always think Outlander has elements of traditional romance stories with being rescued etc. but with a massive dose of gritty realism.

Shosha1 · 02/05/2020 11:43

@quirkychick. They brought some of book 6 into this series, by killing off Stephen Bonnet early, must admit as much as Ed Sleleers was brilliant, I can see why. It looks like the next episode jumps back again, Diana has written episode 511, and she will probably pull all the threads together. (Seeing still of 511, one if my favourite parts if book 5 seems to happen) then 512 looks like it jumps ahead again.
Two major characters from book 5 have not appeared, so I expect they will then come into series 6 as the next villain.

If you have not already read the books, it is well worth it. I have read them as they came out. The first one I read to my Mum when she was in hospital with breast cancer in 1991, so has a special place in my heart anyway as she died at the end if that year.
I have them.all on audible now, so can listen as I knit.

quirkychick · 02/05/2020 14:31

Shosha, I have read the books but a few years ago. I know the Malva storyline has not been done yet and I can't remember the name of the Indian who came with Otter Tooth.

Lessstressedhemum · 02/05/2020 19:42

Donner! I despise him.

OP posts:
Traviis · 03/05/2020 06:03

I gave up on the books at some point whilst waiting for the next to come out. I never liked the move from Europe and they just seemed to go round and round the same few story lines.

quirkychick · 03/05/2020 15:54

Ah, yes Donner, thank you Lessstressed.

Traviis, I still can't forgive DG for separating them for 20 years. The American Revolution is nowhere near as decisive as Culloden. It is very bitty and dull complex in places. I still think Outlander is like Mills & Boon with better history, sex and violence Grin. I love it but it does lurch from one disaster to another.

Traviis · 04/05/2020 09:33

Well, the pace certainly quickened this week.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/05/2020 09:58

That was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I wonder where Brianna and Roger ended up.

They seem to be showing a lot more of Jamie and Claire's relationship just now, which is great. It's nice to see the love.

Bloody Donner is in it😡 I can't stand him, he is so pathetic!

OP posts:
Traviis · 04/05/2020 11:13

I don’t know if I’ve imagined this or remembered it from the books, but my thought was that they’re looking out over an olde worlde scene, that they then realise is a re-enactment or theme park.

shartsi · 04/05/2020 13:06

I liked the episode. The sperm in microscope scene is one of my favourite. My only disappointment was that Roger and Brianna leaving was not really emotional, it should have been as emotional as when Claire was sent back through the stones during Culloden.
Also disappointing that Jamie's relationship with Bree was not developed, I mean she even tells Ian I love you but not her dad.
Loved the intimate moments which were completely left out in season 4, it's like the writers forgot that Outlander was in the main about that relationship and everything else was events. I am glad season 5 has brought that back.
They have rushed the story which makes me think season 6 may be the last. I will be so sad.
David Berry's social media implies that this was probably his last appearance in Outlander. I hope it's not true. John Grey is one of my favourites.

Mytholmroyd · 04/05/2020 13:27

Yes I liked that there was more intimacy - DG wrote the script for this one didnt she?

Poor Lizzie Sad Not totally convinced they would go back and so quickly though

Mytholmroyd · 04/05/2020 13:32

Also disappointing that Jamie's relationship with Bree was not developed,

Yes agree shartsi they could have had a proper goodbye at the Ridge at least. Jaime is not exactly an untouchy unemotional man Sad i feel desolate for him loosing her but hopefully it is not for long

I really hope season 6 is not the last Sad
