twice sg, twice. it was vibrating too

JackieNo · 03/05/2008 20:34

Ah, that's what it was - the hand in the jar. I thought of the Face of Boe for a moment, but knew it wasn't that because it was far too small.

LaundryFairy · 03/05/2008 20:37

They might be bringing back a lot of past series stuff because this is the last of the full new series we are going to get for a while.

After this run, I think we get the Christmas special and one or two specials next year.

So maybe the need to pull together story lines and/or actors before then.

EruvandeAini · 03/05/2008 20:56

It's because the companions are the 'arc' for this series, the way Bad Wolf and Mr Saxon were before.

[Donna]And I bloody LOVED it![/Donna]

Oh that was flippin' marvellous. The Brig! Stuck in Peru! And Rose! And Polluto! And Martha actually getting a bit more of a nod!

Sue be a happy bunny!

Frizbe · 03/05/2008 21:16

well spotted RB, dh got that re the granddaughter too (had to educate me though I'm not as old as him ) not that I'm insinuating in any way your old (gets the JCB out)

Frizbe · 03/05/2008 21:20

after much discussion here, we reckon that the Doctor looks surprised when he says 'shes my daughter' because she's not been concieved yet! but time travel being what it is and all that, he's gone forward a tad far.

RustyBear · 03/05/2008 21:30

That's OK frizbe, on these threads I enjoy being old enough to have seen the first episode - in fact I was 7.

Frizbe · 03/05/2008 21:34

wipes forehead

EruvandeAini · 03/05/2008 21:34

naaah, it's the hand - genetic manipulation stuff, methinks. Dd1 thinks that she might actually be searching for him perhaps, and the getting-dragged-away bit at the end might be her somehow using the hand to call him or something.

Dd1 also pointed out that the Doctor has made it quite plain in the new series that he is a father - he told Rose that he was a dad once, and there have been other times.

You'll find plenty of geeks trying to insist that Susan wasn't really his grand-daughter, though. I'm not one of them, but I do think that this won't be anything to do with her. I'd like it to be, but I think we were fanwanked to death with everything in this weeks episode, I can't see them giving us much more, although it's possible.

I think Rose was actually pregnant with the Doctors child and has somehow sent their child through the void and she is going to kick his arse and then the Doctor will be having sex with someone.

Oh, sorry, no I don't, that's just bound to a be fanfic at some point.

stitch · 04/05/2008 09:23

so next wekk i am going to have to explain to five year old dd where babies come from then?

ellceeell · 04/05/2008 17:18

I was glad that it was Donna's mum who had the sense to break the car window - made her seem a bit less one dimensional. and I loved the doctor having his fingers crossed that burning off the gas would work.

PersephoneSnape · 04/05/2008 18:08

the burning was spectacular.

not quite as bad as previous weeks.

RustyBear · 10/05/2008 20:04

Am I the only one to wonder why a military reproduction unit would be programmed to add eyeliner to its products?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/05/2008 20:32

Was exactly what I said to dh! What sort of military clone stops to put on make-up minutes after being cloned for battle?

have to say was a bit confused at the age of one of the army people - if he was less than 7 days old why was he so very much older than all the others?

mygirllollipop · 10/05/2008 21:16

LOL I said the same thing to DH too!
DH was wondering why the Doctor doesn't make an entire new time lord race from those machines.

Nice episode in some ways, but the decidedly uncontroversial creation of Jenny was a bit of a disppointment, and the leap-in-front-the-Doctor was about as obvious a plot device as it gets.

Tennant was on form and Donna was hilarious. Oh, the fanfic that was spawned the instant the Doctor asked Donna to save her feminine wiles for later, arf.

stitch · 11/05/2008 16:27

i thought it was a crap episode.
the hath were entirly one dimensional characters.
the glaringly obvious mistake of making one of the fighters an old man. fine if you explain it away by saying the reproduction machine not always perfect, but not if you dont. also, what about genetic material going bad after so many generations. i am sure that has to happen, (not sure if this info from watching too many science fictiony programmes, or from genetics course at university several millenia ago)
and if she regenerates, then why is the body the same?
and why do the humans and the hath suddenly change and becoem super friendly?

i did think she was excellent. actually , donna, the doctor and jenny did brilliant acting etc. but the plot was so thin as to be transparent.
i do hope we see lots more of jenny

CrackerOfNuts · 11/05/2008 16:50

I thought last nights episode was rubbish and next weeks doesn't look very good either.

The terraforming gas thing, didn't Star Trek do something like that? Seem to remember a Genesis machine making a new little Spock when his coffin landed on the planet that was being made habitable.

Mind you, that gas did look like the stuff that came out of the Doctor's mouth when he regenerated so who knows what we are meant to think?

cornsilk · 12/05/2008 00:06

When Jenny was in the space ship at the end I thought they played a bit of the Blakes 7 theme. Anyone else notice it?

cornsilk · 12/05/2008 00:07

Oh and we like Jenny in our house (ds1 quite smitten) but I also wondered about the immaculate eyeliner.
