Yes it was crap. The acting was just terrible.

Katisha · 27/04/2008 13:10

I'm never convinced by Martha...She seems to have a range of two expressions - pleased with herself and worried.

posieflump · 27/04/2008 13:12

and it was the first of a 2 parter
I told dh it was dull and he told me I just didn't get it - cheeky bugger!!

PersephoneSnape · 27/04/2008 13:20

can't POSSIBLY do that to grandad!!

sphil · 27/04/2008 22:16

I loved it - and so did DS1. Best one of series so far imo.

EruvandeAini · 27/04/2008 22:19

Helen Raynor wrote the pants Dalek two-parter last series. With Dalek/humans. And a Dalek gimp. Dire.

Pixel · 28/04/2008 22:59

Grandad in the car. Two words. Brick. Window.
I do hope someone thinks of it before he chokes to death, I rather like Grandad, whereas I couldn't stand Martha's family.

EruvandeAini · 29/04/2008 14:51

I've just read the Digital Spy spoilers (yes, I know i was going to avoid them but I'm ill today and the lure is too strong...), and I am havin' a large grin to myself about a line I think the Doctor is going to say. I do love a self-referential gag.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/05/2008 19:06

No. I'm not having it. He ain't a dad!

RustyBear · 03/05/2008 19:08

He's a grandfather, actually - we've known that since 1963

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/05/2008 19:16

Can you enlighten me further RB?

RustyBear · 03/05/2008 19:22

When we first meet the doctor, he's on earth because his granddaughter Susan is at school in London - the first companions, Ian and Barbara were her school teachers, who got curious about why she apparently lived in a junk yard and ended up being kidnapped by the doctor to preserve his identity.
The relationship has never been explicitly explained, but Susan always called the doctor 'Grandfather'

Of course, it could also be that Rose wasn't quite telling the truth when she said it was her mum who was pregnant - there's quite a lot of fan fiction based on that idea!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/05/2008 19:35

Ooh, I assumed his daughter would be something to do with Susan but hadn't considered Rose being pregnant. Unless the Dr shagged Jackie Tyler !!!

Sontarans. Hmm. DCs liked it. I thought it was OK. DH not impressed.

RustyBear · 03/05/2008 19:52

Of course, there's also another sense in which she's 'the Doctor's daughter' - the actress Georgia Moffet is Peter Davison's daughter.

cornsilk · 03/05/2008 19:55

In the watch episode with the scarecrows there was a baby.

RustyBear · 03/05/2008 19:58

Wasn't that just John Smith/Joan imagining what might have happened.
Though of course, in a alternate universe, perhaps it did.
Once you start on alternate universes, anything could happen....

JackieNo · 03/05/2008 20:03

And what was that flicker of Rose on one of the screens about?

cornsilk · 03/05/2008 20:04

Didn't spot that!

PTA · 03/05/2008 20:05

Just a thought (and although I watch I'm not totally clued up), could his daughter be some sort of re-generated person? Captain Jack did have the Doctor's hand for a while, he could have re-generated a new body from it?

Hassled · 03/05/2008 20:07

I saw a flicker of Rose - DCs and DH missed it and I thought I was losing my marbles.

LaundryFairy · 03/05/2008 20:19

Yes, definitely a flicker of Rose on the monitor...

LaundryFairy · 03/05/2008 20:22

We have been speculating that she is trying to make a connection from her parallel world (also brief appearance in Episode 1 of this series)

JackieNo · 03/05/2008 20:28

Yes - she looked as if she was shouting 'Doctor...'. Definitely trying to get through.

SaintGeorge · 03/05/2008 20:30

There did seem to be a bit of a close up on the hand (in jar) towards the end of the episode when the Tardis started misbehaving.

stitch · 03/05/2008 20:30

why do they need to have so many of his old companions coming back?
i mean, martha hasnt even left properly. only been gone three episodes, and she's back in the fourth. and we saw her in torchwood as well.
and rose flickers in every couple of episodes, and is mentioned in most of them.
why?
do they not think the doctor can carry it off on his own? or do they think catherine tate isnt good enough? personally i think she is th ebest companion yet.
