old one

OP posts:

I haven't listened to it myself, but apparently the commentary to the episode mumbles something about the general being old because the progenerator was short of resources at the beginning, so when an old 'donor' put their DNA in, an 'old' soldier came out.........I'm not quite sure how you listen to the commentary and get it sync'd with the episode so I haven't checked it myself.

I assumed the gas coming out of Jenny's mouth was the same stuff that came out of the Doctors mouth after he regenerated into 10. I assumed that was why she healed, it being less than 12 hours since she was created.

I did enjoy it, but I'll admit to being a bit disppointed that all the build up and hype about the Doctor having a daughter was dealt with before the titles even came up. Not sure how or when Jenny's going to return though, as Georgia Moffett's in the new Spooks spin off Code 9 (although they're filming that now, so I suppose she could be finished in time for next years DW, especially as it's the 'specials' year)

beansprout · 12/05/2008 11:33

Isn't this just all a set up for the finale which will presumably involve Rose in her parallel universe?

Dr's dd is now flying around time and space, unbeknown to the Dr. Very handy.

SirDigbyChickenCaesar · 12/05/2008 11:34

i smell a spin-off...

KayHarker · 12/05/2008 12:53

I think it's very interesting that the mighty Moffat was the one who wanted Jenny to be alive at the end.

Pixel · 12/05/2008 23:17

Serenity, that's a point. The Doctor was only able to grow his new hand because it was within a certain time-limit of him regenerating wasn't he? I'd forgotten about that.

Nymphadora · 13/05/2008 11:31

So that wouldn't be a proper regeneration then would it? Just growing a new heart or whatever had a hole in?

RustyBear · 17/05/2008 19:27

So how many Christie titles are they going to get into tonight's episode......?

ellceeell · 17/05/2008 21:12

I didn't start counting titles straight away - but I spotted quite a few. I shall just have to watch it again tomorrow
I quite liked this episode but dd2 didn't - she said she had to listen too much.

wheresthehamster · 17/05/2008 21:14

I think I ruined the episode for the family by saying "That's one" "That's another" all the way through

JackieNo · 17/05/2008 21:19

We kept spotting them, but only started when she said 'Nemesis' - may have missed a few before that because we hadn't cottoned on.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 21:20

Wasn't very keen on this weeks again. Quite dissapointed in this series so far all together.

ellceeell · 17/05/2008 21:25

From my point of view it was a pity that I watched the Shakespeare episode this afternoon, when he was getting inspiration for his plays from the Doctor. So, Donna making suggestions to Agatha Christie was a bit too similar.

KayHarker · 17/05/2008 22:21

It was good for what it was, but it really was just a stand alone episode. Fun, and that's sort of about it. Nice idea to try and explain why Agatha Christie lost her memory, but it didn't really explain why she lost 10 days.

I mean, yes, I get that the Doctor would have taken her in the Tardis, but why? It would have been a bit more satisfying if the adventure itself had taken place in the missing ten days, tbh.

So yeah, I'm nitpicking, and if I'm nitpicking, it probably means it's not going to be a favourite. But I've only seen it the once.

I did love the Doctor saying 'ginger beer!' to the gay footman. That got a guffaw from me, and I'm normally so very laydy-loik.

UnquietDad · 17/05/2008 23:02

And we don't even get one next week. Grrrr.

On the plus side, there allegedly aren't going to be any more tedious phone-in musical talent shows after the current one - so Series 5 in 2010 should get a clear run, Eurovision or no Eurovision! (Unless Graham Norton goes mad and demands a show in which he chooses a new boyfriend, to be called "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Any Strictly Come Nancy-Boy Will Do?")

prettybird · 17/05/2008 23:09

Cornsilk: dh spotted the Blake's 7 theme tune too!

And I commented on/complained about the eyeliner too - very sophisticiated proginator machine to put make up on

cornsilk · 18/05/2008 09:47

Yes, if only we could have one of those machines for early morning starts.

Ripeberry · 19/05/2008 17:46

Wonder if they'll do a Doctor Who adventure involving the LHC (large Hadron Collider)? They are going to be switching it on soon and if you believe stuff on You-tube you will be shitting yourselves!
The 21st century, this is where it all changes?

UnquietDad · 20/05/2008 16:59

Russell T Davies is leaving and will be replaced by Steven Moffat from 2010.

Good news?

cornsilk · 20/05/2008 17:00

Don't know who Steven Moffat is.

sallyforth · 20/05/2008 17:02

V good news. He wrote "Blink" which is one of my favourite episodes.

UnquietDad · 20/05/2008 17:07

He wrote "Girl in the Fireplace", "Blink" and "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", as well as the new one which is going to be on in 2 weeks' time. he also wrote "Coupling" and "Press Gang".

cornsilk · 20/05/2008 17:09

hmmm - liked blink but not overly fussed about the rest.

KayHarker · 20/05/2008 17:17

I knew it!

I refer you to my post on Mon 12-May-08 12:53:55

prettybird · 20/05/2008 17:22

I wonder if ther will be as many gay/bi-sexual allusions?

KayHarker · 20/05/2008 17:33

Three words.

Sally Bleedin' Sparrow.
