right, watched it again - i'm mellowing slightly. not very much though....

so, question - what is on Donnas back? and does anyone else get the feeling that he really really shouldn't have saved that family. paradox........

RustyBear · 13/04/2008 21:40

But Caecilius wasn't actually a marble dealer - he was a financier - a middle man who lent money to people who wanted to buy at auctions. In fact he probably didn't die in the eruption of 79 but in the earlier earthquake in 62 as the records found in his house stop at about that time.

PortAndLemon · 13/04/2008 21:42

Yes, just been reading that on Wikipedia.

Arabica · 14/04/2008 12:30

arabica - we don't know yet. It was something to do with the Time War. All will be revealed, i expect.

Arabica · 15/04/2008 00:48

It sounds like a theme park ride.
Anyone been to the Dr Who exhibition? Tanking DS on Sunday.

Arabica · 15/04/2008 00:49

Taking

UnquietDad · 15/04/2008 09:16

Where are you going, arabica? The Cardiff one or South Bank?

(The Time War you could argue goes all the way back to Genesis of the Daleks in the 1970s, which was the first occasion when the Time Lords tried to interfere with the Daleks' timeline.)

[geeky sniff]

SueBaroo · 15/04/2008 11:34

Ah yes, back in the days when DW had much more real science and history in it. arf.

[being geeky about geekdom emoticon]

Arabica · 15/04/2008 12:04

Earls Court! Anyone been? We're very excited.

serenity · 15/04/2008 14:12

We're going during the Summer half term as ours is two weeks after everyone elses this year. It's meant to be pretty good, and they're apparently going to add monsters/sets/props from this season as they're shown on TV. I'm quite excited too!

Nymphadora · 16/04/2008 07:15

We went to Manchester & Cardiff last year kids really enjoyed them

SueBaroo · 19/04/2008 22:03

hmm, wonder if we'll need another one of these before the series ends? (hope so)

Thought tonight's episode was very old-Who in style. The Ood transformation was one of the most gruesome things I've watched for a long while. Vile.

I've been doing some musing on The Ood's message to the Doctor. I think it's a bit of misdirection - I think they want us to think the R word, but I don't think it will be, any more than Rose actually died.

So, I reckon he's going to disappear, like the disappearing planets/bees, and somehow this will bring Rose back, and she and Donna will have to do something to bring him back.

I think maybe Rose will never actually meet the Doctor, and the bit we saw of her in the first episode is basically the end of the series at the beginning. So it's ten-boxes-of-tissues at the ready for me.

Hope I'm wrong, though, because that really is so sad.

serenity · 20/04/2008 00:25

I can't remember what the Oods exact phrasing was....could it have been directed at Donna?

I enjoyed this episode once we got past the first couple of over-acted Donna lines Was weirdly OTT from both of them for the first five minutes! DCs haven't seen the episode yet as we've been out, but I'd imagine they'll love the fairly gross transformation scene (DD will do a girly scream)

sphil · 20/04/2008 22:38

I agree about the first couple of minutes Serenity - I was cringing! But then it improved - thought CT was very good indeed in all the moving bits. Didn't the Ood look SAD?

Didn't the Ood refer to 'DoctorDonna' before saying the song coming to an end bit? So it could mean her. I think she's already said she's only doing one series. I wondered whether there was a bit of a hint in last week's episode when she was begging the Dr to save 'just one person'. I wonder whether he will have to choose between Donna and Rose?
Oooeeeeeoooo.......

(Did I say the Ood were sad?)

Overrun · 21/04/2008 22:16

Am enjoying the new series so far, CT not too bad at all, much less annoying than Bonnie Langford any way
Liked the Rome one, and this weeks was good too, esp given the fact that it always takes a while for the series to settle in.
Its probably been mentioned in this thread already, but does any one have any interesting theories about the Bees?

Did anyone notice the 'Classic' reference to the First Doctor story The Sensorites? When they were looking at the starmap, the Doctor said he'd been in the area many years ago - the Sensorites inhabited the Sense-Sphere (cf the Ood-Sphere) and they looked somewhat similar

Overrun · 22/04/2008 13:02

Rustybear very interesting, I'm afraid I have only gone back as far as the John Pertwee era, so great to see some really vintage aliens
Thanks for the tip Dior, a little teaser but no specific information as I really don't want to know what is going to happen until it does iyswim.
Hope this thread, which I haven't had a proper look out yet isn't full of spoilers

Well, looking forward to tonight - Martha's return! But I'm not looking forward to tonight - written by Helen Raynor. poo.

EruvandeAini · 26/04/2008 20:42

Well, I really enjoyed that episode of Confidential.

RustyBear · 27/04/2008 12:51

What else did Helen Raynor write then?

posieflump · 27/04/2008 12:55

Am I the only one who thought it was a bit dull last night?
