old one

of course it's too late to change it now! I'm sure the massive popularity of Sally Sparrow has been noted though.

I think CT will be fine, and add a very different feel to the dynamic or the leading pair so it isn't just a retread of the first three series.

I didn't like the Christmas episode, but that's for a lot of reasons (unimpressive static spider for one, not scary - spiders are scary because they can move fast and unpredictably, not because they stand in the corner of the room hissing, dribbling and waving their front legs about.)

I think on a more regular footing, CT will help it get away from some of the more run-of-the-mill romantic blah.

UnquietDad · 05/07/2007 10:54

Yes, we really need a companion who doesn't fancy the Doctor and moon about after him all the time. Maybe some of Donna's acerbic world-weariness is just what we need.

lemonaid · 05/07/2007 10:58

I have it! expat or cod for companion! Let's start the campaign now. We could have expat following DT round saying "Eurgh, you're all weaselly and ferrety. I'd rather poke out my own eyes with skewers" or cod with a refrain of "ffs thi sis hsit".

SueBaroo · 05/07/2007 11:29

lol - I managed to read the thread on OG the other day that DT read when he was first got the part and someone said he was 'weaselly', and I had a real stalker-ish moment of 'ooo, DT has read this thread too

I did slap myself soundly for it, though.

Aitch · 05/07/2007 12:29

she'll be fine, she can act. she was just in a shitey episode, that's all.

edam · 05/07/2007 12:31

I suspect Russell T Davies is unlikely to take much notice of petitioners who can't even be bothered to spell his name correctly...

Aitch · 05/07/2007 12:34

yes, he's definitely a pedant.

finknottle · 05/07/2007 17:05

I agree that someone older who'd be more of a foil to the Doctor would be better than another doe-eyed youthful female swooning & sighing "He's ... The Doctor".
Also repeat what I wrote on the CT thread:

For me, having seen CT in a DW episode - I wasn't much taken with her character either. Came as a shock that she'd come back as it was imo, very much a one-off episode.
How many posts on this will there be before Series 4 starts? Bets?

MrsWho · 05/07/2007 19:16

lemonaid -Love th e idea of Ecpat as companion!

I read somewhere Martha didn't like the new companion so do you reckon its cos the DR knew her before Martha?

I was hoping for a bloke

OP posts:

(to SueBaroo) "The Happiness Patrol" (I've remembered). One of the Not Terribly Good Season 25 ones.

SueBaroo · 05/07/2007 20:11

lemonaid I thought I was going to have to hand in my geek card - that's was oblique, lol

lemonaid · 05/07/2007 20:53

Sorry... "I'm glad you're happy / I'm happy you're glad" became a family in-phrase for a while and as a result is never far from my mind when an "I'm glad..." sentence comes up.

Mossy · 06/07/2007 14:59

SueBaroo, I had a dream with you in last night! In an oblique way, anyway.

I dreamed I was in a totalitarian state run by Cybermen and managed to escape to a place called SueBaroo, which was run by schoolchildren with really long arms and a propensity for climbing scaffolding.

Lemonaid pmsl at Cod for companion "ffs thi sis hsit"

GodzillasBumcheek · 06/07/2007 15:01

No! Tell me it's not true!!!! Not Catherine bl**dy Tate?????? Why? Now dh and dts don't want to watch it any more and i'm not bovvered myself!

Sorry if pun already used

SueBaroo · 06/07/2007 15:03

run by schoolchildren with really long arms and a propensity for climbing scaffolding.

-----------

Mossy, that's uncanny... that's exactly what my dc are like..

Lisalumps · 06/07/2007 20:26

Is it just me or was the ending with the Master a bit Flash Gordon with the ring?

JackieNo · 06/07/2007 22:46

You Stephen Moffatt fans - did you know that although the BBC never released 'Joking apart' on video or dvd, someone has now done just that? Fab series - very funny, along the lines of the stuff he did in 'Coupling'.

UnquietDad · 09/07/2007 22:15

All you Who geeks - you have GOT to read the Fan Phrasebook.

Make yourself a cuppa first - it's long. But very, very funny.

SueBaroo · 09/07/2007 22:43

"SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!?
I fancy that David Tennant quite a lot.

  • So true.

ditto the stuff about Jumping the shark.

I loves OG, I does.

UnquietDad · 10/07/2007 09:44

I liked this one:

"Doctor Who has never been more vibrant, cutting-edge, thrusting and vital."
= "I am delighted that, these days, I can go out in public in a Dalek T-shirt and not have people laughing at me and calling me a spastic."

SueBaroo · 10/07/2007 09:49

Oh, and the gravitas comment - oh, how many times have I seen 'lacks the neccessary gravitas' pmsl.

I'd add my own...

"David Tennant is one of the finest actors of his generation and his work on Who is almost faultless"

(I really fancy David Tennant, and I'm a little put out that he hasn't got his kit off and had a sex scene in Dr Who yet)

serenity · 10/07/2007 10:18

Excellent link.

I'm far too scared to join OG, I'll just stick to here and the SFX forum

SueBaroo · 10/07/2007 10:44

OG isn't too scary - unless you use the phrase 'Gay agenda' in anything other than an ironic sense.

serenity · 10/07/2007 11:15

Oh they have the 'gay agenda' thing on SFX too. Actually, the other SFX members seem to think that their Who threads are pretty scary, and loads of people won't venture onto them, but tbh they're nothing compared to some of the threads we get on here

Maybe having been on here for all this time I'm going to be immune to anything that OG can throw at me. It's moderated quite heavily isn't it, so it can't be that bad?

UnquietDad · 10/07/2007 11:26

There are moderators, but don't expect them to be like Caesar's wife.
