Anyone watching?

I found it very uncomfortable & upsetting viewing.

spader1987 · 16/10/2018 22:51

I really enjoyed this! Wonderfully acted, witty but heart felt. A very accurate representation of our everyday life and that of many others.

Confuzzlediddled · 16/10/2018 22:51

I watched it and wasn't entirely sure if it was absolutely amazing or completely rubbish! Incredible acting from the young girl though...

On the whole I found it good, refreshing in its lack of po-faced ness. Acting was superb.

I have surprised myself by being a bit speechless at how emotional some bits made me.

Hmm - we are in a situation which is fairly similar and I’m not sure what I thought really. Some bits made me laugh out loud - the hidden poo - some I identified with - the unfailing, frustrating optimism of the granny. But I didn’t feel that the relationship between the girl and her parents was particularly believable - it seemed as if they’d just met her, rather than having her in the family for 9 years.

WonderBoy · 17/10/2018 04:10

I'm watching. Threads in Chat and SN Chat too.

LittleBookofCalm · 17/10/2018 06:38

Enjoyed it so much, thought it was great

AamdC · 17/10/2018 06:51

Ah i wanted to watch this its apparently based on a child with a rare chromosome disorder my son has one and complex learning disabillities will it be on catch up?

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 17/10/2018 06:59

Im tge co owner of 2 children with sn and one of the producer of this programme spoke with us because they wanted to get this programme as accurate as possible as to what it was like living with a disabled child.

I liked it. And a lot of it resonated with me, right down to playing hunt the poo. I know it was meant to have a.comedy twist but I found it very true to life.

Some of it was less realistic (( she also asked about room layouts etc )) and the little girls bedroom was pretty cluttered for some reason but I found it quite well done overall. I don't usually watch these.programmmes (( hated the A word )) but the dark humour aspect resonated with me, something we often use to survive.

LittleBookofCalm · 17/10/2018 07:01

yes, it is on iplayer

LittleBookofCalm · 17/10/2018 07:01

i was quite relieved it wasnt about autism

AamdC · 17/10/2018 07:11

Well my son also hss autism but i wont watch any drama about it becsuse they only ever show very high functioning functioning autism they never show the other end of the spectrum Hmm

LittleBookofCalm · 17/10/2018 07:15

Thing is since autism is a spectrum there would such a wide variety, this is based on a true story too, and no diagnosis broadcast, yet.

AamdC · 17/10/2018 07:20

The child is based on a child with a rare chromosome disorder i thought? My child hss chromosomal deletion, but how people cam be affectrd varies massively from person to person

hazeyjane · 17/10/2018 07:42

One of the writer's, Shaun Our, has a daughter who has an, as yet, undiagnosed genetic condition (SWAN - m.facebook.com/SWANchildrenUK/posts/2026661590758075)
It obviously can't be true to everyone's experience (my ds's room is pretty cluttered, about 90 % Lego to be honest!), but it was very refreshing to see some of the things that aren't usually depicted.
Jessica Hynes portrayal of the early days where no one believes her particularly bought a lump to my throat.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 17/10/2018 07:42

The chikd in the programme has liw functioning Autism. The lady who spoke to us was asking about genetic testing. Im guessing she has some form of chromosone deletion alongside this too.

The programme isnt perfect, but that's just based on my experiences. I don't know any, low functioning Autistic child able to use word apps to put sentences together. . Most are lucky if they can use pecs. Which are picture symbols.

hazeyjane · 17/10/2018 07:47

Sorry that should be Shaun Pye (fucking autocorrect).

hazeyjane · 17/10/2018 07:50

Autistic features are present or do morbid in many people with genetic conditions.

I have met children who use AAC devices, some of whom have severe learning disabilities

OP posts:
LittleBookofCalm · 17/10/2018 08:06

The actors were brilliant.

AamdC · 17/10/2018 08:14

I tjonk it varies Shark my son is non verbal and uses some PECS some i know one child whp is also none verbal doing brilliantly withl an app .

WonderBoy · 17/10/2018 08:28

I think it's fantastic to see a family including a child with a severe learning disability portrayed on mainstream television. Here's to more of it.

Starlings27 · 17/10/2018 08:56

I and my son have a chromosome deletion, so this really resonated with me. DS isn't nearly so badly affected as Rosie but the bits when she was a baby really resonated - knowing something was wrong but no-one believing you (even your baby's dad!).

LateToTheParty · 17/10/2018 09:26

I could really relate to much of this, and cried and laughed throughout (sometimes at the same time!). Especially the section on the mother not being believed, and everyone saying to her it was fine, and trying to manage the child's behaviour and safety in and outside the house, and the frustration felt by the parents.

youngestisapsycho · 17/10/2018 10:23

I enjoyed and can see how hard it must be for families. I especially felt sad for the brother... his life also has to revolve around his sister and he seemed to keep having to miss out on doing stuff.
