Morning Glitterball
@x-squared hope it's okay to follow in your lovely footsteps and put out a second thread even with 13 days left to go. If there is another one up already and I am being blind, please link to it.

*Love it, so Charles is now officially Btech Idris, and Kevin (from Grimsby) is officially Gavin and Stacey.

Do we any other ‘official’ mn abbreviation for this year’s contingent?*

Btech Idris
Gavin and Stacey
MWMOB (most worse member of Blue) Lee Rayn (I still cannot believe he inflicted Rayn Ryan, sorry, Rayn Lee Amethyst Ryan on his son) maybe we should just call him Eel Fromblue yes Lee love we know it's an anagram
Pashley mk II (Kim and Pash being the original?)

Highlights from other fora include
Graemey Cricket
Not Trinny
Joetube

and Dr Ranj is quite liking his Miss Ranjie moniker according to his instagram Wink

As for the new pros my other half made various lube comments Hmm whereas Grazziano is Ross from Friends if he carries on with the oil.

Move over Shimmy Jimmy Jordan as Brenda states the obvious here but Kate S with Kev would have been a disaster height wise, c'mon Cole you had too much sangria.

I also love Halloween week Blush but would happily get rid of movie week.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/09/2018 19:04

I can't remember which one I like least!

I don't mind a bit of theming - the Halloween week costumes and visuals are generally excellent.

I think it's the music choices and OTT props that ruin it for me. Especially if a good couple are given an advanced dance and it's ruined with bad music and other rubbish. You just wish you could have seen it performed to appropriate music in a normal week AngryWink

Is there a musicals week (separate to movie week) or did I imagine that?

Does anyone remember fusion? It was the series Pasha danced with Kimberley I think.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/09/2018 19:15

Oh and the backing dancers nooooooo! Was it Pixie who danced to Beauty and the Beast with people dressed as teapots and such, getting right in the way Grin

It totally spoils Blackpool for me - that and the constant banging on about Blackpool Hmm
I know it's a big dancefloor but I wish they'd just do a gorgeous dance - use a stage/steps if necessary. Don't much like harnesses and people parachuting in either - get on with it!

I'm so cheerful aren't I Grin

I wonder who the BBC will nominate as the comedy contestant? Dr Ranj? Joe Sugg? It's usually someone atrociously bad. The partnerships all seem to have potential this year imo! I think seeing Susannah sent up like that might be awkward.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/09/2018 20:41

I don’t mind Halloween either.
I love the make up and costumes (usually) but like you all I’m not a fan of the props and backing dancers.

Petalflowers · 13/09/2018 21:38

One of my favourite routines ever was the professional dance from Halloween (although I prefer musicals week).

covetingthepreciousthings · 13/09/2018 22:01

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat pretty sure there is also a musicals week separate to movie week, don't think you dreamt it up Wink

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/09/2018 22:12

The themed weeks are multiplying!!!

I'm really intrigued by the couple's choice dance. Wonder if we'll see any good ones!?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/09/2018 22:21

Something that they do on the Irish DWTS is when about half the contestants have gone they swap the partners around for one week. Nobody is dropped from show that week, the following week the celebs are back with their regular partners and the scores for the two weeks are combined. It's really interesting how most of the celebs make a huge leap in ability in the week that they change partners and then again when they change back.

iklboo · 13/09/2018 22:25

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar - that sounds really interesting.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/09/2018 22:29

When I first saw it I thought it was a ridiculous idea, but now it's my favourite week. The Irish show doesn't have as many themed weeks as the UK, because it's not Halloween and they don't go to Blackpool so all they really have is movie week and the partner swap. It's only been on for two series though, so they might add in more themes if they feel they are starting to loose audience interest.

MozzieMagnet · 13/09/2018 23:11

They have the switch up in the American version too. I am not that keen as it used to be Mark Ballas swapping with Derek Hough or Val swapping with his brother Maks. Still would be interesting though...to see Chuck with Oti, Anton with Ashley etc for one week only.

Strictly Ireland series 1 had...

Movie week
Valentines week
Switch up week
Icons week

Series 2 they had
Movie week
Switch up week
Guilty pleasures week
Team Dance week
Broadway week

but given the 'themes' had more to do with music choices rather than full blown production values I can see why they might not have made a huge impact Wink. DOI had 3 (disco/love/fairy tale).
I am such a nerd, sorry.

Switch up week sounds intriguing!

ppeatfruit · 14/09/2018 09:02

Oh poor Kev I have a soft spot for him. I'm not surprised he's split with Karen? (I always get the two senior smallish dark haired girls confused). They didn't seem to have anything in common except the dance!

MrsJayy · 14/09/2018 09:10

Kevin just needs to stop marrying his dance partners

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/09/2018 09:13

I love a Strictly nerd MozzieMagnet. I record the Irish show so that I can fast forward through all the ads and bloody Amanda and Nicky so I probably miss the explanation of the theme when there is one.

ppeatfruit · 14/09/2018 09:17

Irrelevant I know but I just LOVE Cher"s Gimme Gimme Gimme, I just danced round the kitchen to it, it gets me going!!!! The production is amazing!

xsquared · 14/09/2018 09:25

I am not keen on Karen or Janette’s choreography. It is astonishing how they still manage to get dance partners and Luba, who is amazing, doesn’t.

Compared to the other pros, their background makes them practically amateurs.

FuzzyCustard · 14/09/2018 09:42

Ah ppeat you have Radio 2 on too then?!

ppeatfruit · 14/09/2018 09:43

I prefer them to that new girl, (last years' winner?) with long hair who's so hyper she exhausts me just to watch. I feel sorry for her partners.

I reckon that amateurs can be very good indeed.

ppeatfruit · 14/09/2018 09:44

Yes Fuzzy Grin !!!!!

MrsJayy · 14/09/2018 10:06

That is Katya she is vv energetic I like her though but Iimagine her as the Duracell bunny

xsquared · 14/09/2018 10:11

Katya? She’s been on for a couple of years.Katya is mad as a box of frogs but she’s brilliant so she gets away with it. Outside her dancing, she is super talented too.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/09/2018 10:31

I really like Katya's choreography, she extremely good at minimising her partner's weaknesses and but still filling the dance with content. Jeanette does some rubbish ballroom choreography IMO, it was the choreography that got Aston kicked out last season he was a really good dancer but, as the judges pointed out, that wasn't a Viennese Waltz. She does noticeably better when Aljaz's partner leaves early, so he probably has time to help her with the ballroom stuff then.

ppeatfruit · 14/09/2018 12:39

It seemed to me that Katya might be good at causing a partner's heart attack or at least a nervous breakdown Grin

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/09/2018 22:45

Vick Hope seems to have given away that they'll be dancing the Jive to "Feel It Still" by Portugal the man, on an Instagram story..

Seems early a week in advance, wonder if the Strictly bosses tell them what they can & can't post.. Hmm
