Morning Glitterball
@x-squared hope it's okay to follow in your lovely footsteps and put out a second thread even with 13 days left to go. If there is another one up already and I am being blind, please link to it.

*Love it, so Charles is now officially Btech Idris, and Kevin (from Grimsby) is officially Gavin and Stacey.

Do we any other ‘official’ mn abbreviation for this year’s contingent?*

Btech Idris
Gavin and Stacey
MWMOB (most worse member of Blue) Lee Rayn (I still cannot believe he inflicted Rayn Ryan, sorry, Rayn Lee Amethyst Ryan on his son) maybe we should just call him Eel Fromblue yes Lee love we know it's an anagram
Pashley mk II (Kim and Pash being the original?)

Highlights from other fora include
Graemey Cricket
Not Trinny
Joetube

and Dr Ranj is quite liking his Miss Ranjie moniker according to his instagram Wink

As for the new pros my other half made various lube comments Hmm whereas Grazziano is Ross from Friends if he carries on with the oil.

Move over Shimmy Jimmy Jordan as Brenda states the obvious here but Kate S with Kev would have been a disaster height wise, c'mon Cole you had too much sangria.

P.S. I went onto Brenda's twitter to see whether a link to his Hello column would be up yet (not yet is the answer) but he got his bum out this week for no reason whatsoever Confused Grin

Monkseal: re first QS in week one....

Gabby, Stephanie, Kate and Penny all had quickstep first, this is some sophistry to give Stacey an angle when NOBODY'S ever done samba first under any phrasing.
Just remembered half the women in Series 4 had it first as well, don't mind me, just being a nitpicker.

Dammit still awake Sad but am now addicted to the tangerine two. And Anton does kick a ball away at 1.12. Was she really as bad as Diarmuid, John Sergeant, Widdy, Nancy del Lollipop and worse than Tony Jacklin?
Jo Wood only got 2 points more for her samba and that was week 6
Week 1 still seems harsh...they wanted Graeme to do his Graemey Cricket Gimmick (which he did very well in fairness) and Susannah was well and truly chucked under the bus.
I also think had it been Anton's first rodeo in those trousers it would have gone down better but so soon after Ruth...

I feel like Karen has won the battle of the Cliftons tonight. Not that I think there's a battle going on but the DM said there was

Monkseal suggested that hostilities have been temporarily suspended so that KFG doesn't burst into tears every two minutes may have read more into the blog than was there

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/09/2018 13:29

I'm not one to talk but I thought Kevin looked like he'd put on a bit of timber! Maybe his outfit was to blame

Nope - it's his bum. First professional I've seen on here with a fat arse.

Thank you for the new inspiring thread Mozzie

And I wish to state here and now that my Anton love has gone the distance since I saw what he did to Susannah. I don't particularly care for her, but she hasn't done anything to deserve being dressed as a pineapple and having Anton in her knickers.

You wouldn't treat a dog like that.

BertrandRussell · 23/09/2018 13:53

“And I wish to state here and now that my Anton love has gone the distance since I saw what he did to Susannah. I don't particularly care for her, but she hasn't done anything to deserve being dressed as a pineapple and having Anton in her knickers

Agreed. He was horrible. So dismissive and rude. Utterly graceless.

MozzieMagnet · 23/09/2018 15:26

I wouldn't mind him in my knickers. Ooh, matron!
But seriously...he did what worked for Ruth and got them views last year and he probably thought the same schtick would get her votes as doing a straight samba badly definitely doesn't...even Graeme had four gimmicks (sprinkler/floss/bat entry/interactive screen).
As for dismissing her, he does the retorts to judges/relies on taking the piss to get her sympathy votes...it might be bad form given he could probably get external choreo if he asked and do extra Latin like Brendan did extra ballroom in the early days but he knows the show and the demographic better than anyone: she says they have a fantastic friendship and honestly, had that routine not come so soon after his last samba, in a very competitive year, with week one low scoring to alleviate the holy trinity of ringahdom (Danny/Ashley/Faye) and no other obvious duffers then it wouldn't be getting the amount of flack it is - it would still get heavily criticised, Anton's Latin always does but not to this degree.
This was week one. Ruth's samba was week 5 and only got 4 points more but she got the views, wasn't bottom two that week.
There is one difference and that is that Susannah is going the Widdy route in backchatting to Craig whereas Ruth, who had wanted the gig for years, found the whole experience joyful: comedic is really hard to do and she had good timing and the ability to laugh with the audience so it always looked more relaxed.
Now if he can't get a decent balloom out of Susannah I'll admit then that Neil should have had her. In the meantime I reckon she will beat one of the contestants third from the bottom next week.

AlmaCogansFrockFan · 23/09/2018 19:25

Would Susannah or Anton be a ballet fan - as the start of their routine immediately brought to my mind the entrance of the Queen of Hearts in the Royal Ballet's Alice in Wonderland- where she is wheeled on in a massively oversized red plastic ballgown that splits open to reveal the ballerina in red tutu and tights sitting on a platform at the top of steps with the King of Hearts huddled at the bottom! Sadly Anton couldn't work any magic for Susannah and I don't think it's fair on either of them as he is always treated as the safe pair of hands for an older/less confident contestant and deserves a chance with a hopeful, yet the older dancers can sometimes forge ahead with the right choreography and Susannah may have blossomed with a different teacher.

MozzieMagnet · 24/09/2018 01:18

Oh thank you Alma
You are right, it is very similar.
I love it when others can shed light on influences, cheers for that x

Just rewatching to get a better look at the dances. On second viewing I'm amazed how good AJ and Kate's (?) dance was, especially considering how little rehearsal they'd had. Dr Ranj and Jeanette's was delightful, I just smiled all the way through it. Gorka was lovely with Katie, just so gentle and tender, and I could watch Oti dance all day. Not just because she's amazingly talented but because there's so much joy in what she does.

And Joe Suggs is surprisingly nifty and nimble isn't he?!

MozzieMagnet · 24/09/2018 20:21

Joe was the biggest surprise of the night for me - I had thought from the launch show he'd be bad and I love AHA but the French Strictly jive to it was average and I just didn't see it as working. My DD shouted Emoji movie when it came on (in actual fact that was Anita's song Feel the moment but I did wonder whether production had chosen it because of the emoji bollocks). I wonder whether he's done the most training hours, they used to tell us those stats. Lauren did brilliantly with AJ. Looking forward to her dancing to Gold soon Smile

Did anyone watch It Takes Two? Great to see Erin Grin

MrsJayy · 25/09/2018 09:12

Finally managed to catch up if Dr Ranj is a total delight he is my favourite luvs him. Poor Susanna I can't believe they gave them the samba first week was different with Ruth they had a rapport and could pull it off I cringed all the way through.
