I enjoyed the first series (which is currently on iplayer) - some terrific performances, esp from Lesley Manville, Dorothy Atkinson and Lisa McGrillis. For any other fans, Series 2 starts 20 FebSmile

I just wish I could watch the first few of series 1 that I missed as it had dropped off iplayer by the time I got into it (only last week).

spiderlight · 21/03/2018 13:56

It might turn up on Netflix - a lot of BBC series pop up on there as soon as they drop off iPlayer. There's a bit of the first episode on YouTube - it's the day of Cathy's husband's funeral and she's just met kelly for the first time:

southeastdweller · 21/03/2018 14:00

The first series is on iTunes.

MrsGrindah · 21/03/2018 14:05

The theme song happens to,be one of my favourite songs too. I sing it to my husband every time I annoy him!

desperatehousewife21 · 21/03/2018 14:15

I love Reg when he exclaims ‘rice’!? Like she’s just announced she’s serving the pork with poison Grin

MuffinMad · 21/03/2018 14:39

Has anyone noticed how Kelly always seems to be eating something or drinking something? ( I have read that some actors need to do things like that in order to act their best.)

I love the the theme song too, so much so that I downloaded it from iTunes. It's called Cups by Lulu and the Lampshades, if anyone's interested.

Love this series. I don't want it to end, either. 😕

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 14:41

The American version will have even more annoying characters - the inlaws will be gun owning republicans who love Trump and won't show anyone putting things in the bin or hanging up the washing in an odd fashion. It will be about as subtle as a brick - and be called ' MOM'.

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 14:47

My inlaws are very much like Reg and Maureen - my two were telling grandad all about tinned tuna once ( they were only little then
) ' what?' exclaimed FIL ' the Americans eat that' he then went on to call it TUna (which wound me up for no reason at all, it was the american accent that did it i think)
Mil sniffed and said ' i much prefer red salmon - tuna reminds me of cat food'. we eat it still, they never ' touch the stuff'. mind you, my own dad is the same.

Hardwickwhite · 21/03/2018 15:01

My goodness that was wonderful. I think DH knew I would cry if he spoke to me about it, so he was quiet for a good five minutes after 'the hug'.

The scene when Jason admitted to Kelly that he wasn't ready to move out was lovely too, and perhaps explains why he has been so anti Michael. Maybe it was obvious mind you.

EnidButton · 21/03/2018 17:17

Thanks Long

The washing was annoying but then ok because she was building up to the hug.

WinstonlovesJulia1984 · 21/03/2018 18:03

MuffinMad I have also noticed the incessant eating from Kelly and often Jason too eg the Easter one when she wandered about with a bit of chocolate in her hand for most of the episode, biting bits off between her usual vacuous comments. In this most recent one they had Pringles, an apple and then eventually bowls of Cathy's stew.

spiderlight · 21/03/2018 18:47

The eating has always been a big part of Kelly's character. The yoghurt as soon as she arrived in the first episode, then an apple on the way to the funeral - one of her first conversations with Cathy was about how she's always getting hungry. I'm pretty sure she had a load of M&Ms in her hand in between the Pringles and the stew last night as well!

chocolatefudgecake157 · 21/03/2018 19:01

Does anyone know where I can get the first series?

EnidButton · 21/03/2018 19:01

I bet Kelly gets pregnant in series 3. Then she'll be the 'Mum' and the son will be a father and can move on from his grief enough to accept Michael.

I may have spent too much time thinking about the last two episodes today, Grin

WinstonlovesJulia1984 · 21/03/2018 19:02

spiderlight as you say the constant eating has been established from the outset as part of her character - do you think it suggests boredom? Or nervousness? There's her clumsiness too which could also be a sign of nervousness - I remember how she broke Cathy's necklace even though she'd been asked not to pull it & play with it.

justgivemethepinot · 21/03/2018 19:07

fudgecake you can get it on Amazon Smile

ThisIsAWifeMineNow · 21/03/2018 19:07

Eating an apple onscreen must be hard for continuity!

It's nice to see Peter Mullan play against type, previously I've only ever seen him play hard men.

leccybill · 21/03/2018 19:15

Remember the scene where Kelly spilt the milk? I thought that was good acting how she almost spilled it a couple of times while she was chatting - I knew exactly what would happen eventually though!

chocolatefudgecake157 · 21/03/2018 19:16

Thanks pinot!

Barefootinthecarpark · 21/03/2018 19:27

I've interpreted Kelly's eating/fidgeting as a sign of anxiety. I think that she has endured a lifetime of criticism from her own mum. She just doesn't know how to be still and at peace.

I'll accept that I am over invested!

WinstonlovesJulia1984 · 21/03/2018 20:24

I think that's probably spot on Barefootinthecarpark

southeastdweller · 21/03/2018 20:31

I agree that Kelly will likely to have a baby in series 3. I expect Michael and Cathy to get together next week so with that and Kelly and Jason always coming round (can't imagine they'd be still living with Cathy next series) there's plenty of mileage for series 3 thankfully.

Hookedoncatnip · 21/03/2018 21:27

That hug.

Snoopyokay · 21/03/2018 21:39

Loving everyone's predictions for series 3 Grin

MyOtherProfile · 21/03/2018 22:01

Ugh just watched last night's episode and have now decided it is probably the most frustrating programme on tv!
