I enjoyed the first series (which is currently on iplayer) - some terrific performances, esp from Lesley Manville, Dorothy Atkinson and Lisa McGrillis. For any other fans, Series 2 starts 20 FebSmile

Finally, contact!!!!

Let's see what happens next week.

Horsemad · 21/03/2018 09:20

Oh last night's episode was one of the best!

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 09:25

I was welling up again at that hug! That washing was annoying me though as I tend to hang t shirts upside down nit from the sleeves. It looked wrong to me.
I was expecting Pauline to get food all over her white outfit!
Kelly not so annoying either - what’s going on? Smile

Agpie · 21/03/2018 09:36

She wasn't concentrating on that messy washing, was she? Her little face was struggling.

longtompot · 21/03/2018 09:38

@EnidButton Shetland was the other one.

I forgot to say about how she hung out the washing. It hurt my brain!

spiderlight · 21/03/2018 09:39

@The80sweregreat - thank you! I am so glad it wasn't just me sitting here muttering 'You don't hang shirts like that...' Grin

That hug though! Perfect.
I loved the grandad on the phone to his wife after her op as well. So much love between those two. And Pauline - 'Shallots? Well done.'

Horsemad · 21/03/2018 09:46

Oh yes, the washing!! Shock Grin

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 09:48

I hate the men in my house hanging washing. They do it wrong- I have to grit my teeth!
Reg on the phone ! Such a good episode. ‘ we went to Westfield 8 times’ - poor Cathy!

Tigresswoods · 21/03/2018 10:06

I knew the washing hanging would get noticed. No wonder she has to iron stuff. I hang strategically to avoid as much ironing as possible. Also a damn good shake of each item helps.

But yes, that hug. Xxx

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 10:08

I am rooting for them both. Fingers crossed.

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 10:08

( I know it’s not real life !) 😀

Snoopyokay · 21/03/2018 10:25

I was so happy when she gave him that hug! Rooting for them too! Such a lovely show to watch Grin

youngestisapsycho · 21/03/2018 10:26

I'm going to watch it again tonight... just to make me feel happy! Smile

thenightsky · 21/03/2018 10:40

Oh that hug made me cry!

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 10:42

It is a heartwarming series, how the characters develop is very subtle and what you find out about them just from conversations they have is also very clever. I;m glad that Derek is standing up to his partner a bit more as well.
It is picking up the pace a bit now. which is good.
its lovely to be able to talk about it on here too!

ToffeeUp · 21/03/2018 10:45

Another thoroughly enjoyable episode but I didn't fancy that beef stew Grin

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 10:53

no, i agree, the beef stew didnt look great - the rice cooked up nicely though, very fluffy and not all stuck to the bottom ( as happens to me)

obviously Jason and Kelly didnt want any of it either , they were munching on cereal and pringles!

Agpie · 21/03/2018 11:25

I thought they were eating the stew in bed, I'll have to watch it again now, I missed that. Wondered why they were using cereal bowls,

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2018 11:27

It might have been the stew actually!

Belindabelle · 21/03/2018 11:39

That was perfection. I even warmed to Jason when he was talking about his dad.

I loved how the new garden chairs were there and referenced to. Its those little details that make it so well observed. Even the light in the garden was spot on. It looked exactly like a late summer early autumn evening when you would be wearing shorts and flip flops to go to the tip.

I could kick myself for not going back and watching series 1 from the beginning as its no longer all on iplayer.

TomFun · 21/03/2018 12:22

Just watched last night’s episode - that was brilliant. I laughed at Derek and his Twitter updates Grin My favourite bit was the hug though. Just perfect. I’m really going to miss “Mum” when the series ends, but I believe a third has been commissioned.

Snoopyokay · 21/03/2018 12:55

I feel like I want everyone I know to watch it but then if they insult it it will be like a knife to my heart haha!

snozzlemaid · 21/03/2018 13:11

God, yes the washing. What was she doing with it??
I love this series so much. I haven't watched anything that stays in my head like this does in a very long time.
Going to miss it when it finishes. I may have to buy it to watch from beginning again.

leccybill · 21/03/2018 13:25

I absolutely love this show, I think it's one of the best things I've watched on TV in a long time.
I hope there is a third series, I've taken to all of the characters so much. They all love each other so much in such an everyday way, it just gets me right there.

spiderlight · 21/03/2018 13:42

Series 3 has been commissioned and will be filmed in the summer, apparently. There's going to be an American adaptation as well, but I don't think I could bear to watch that after the perfection of the UK series!
