Thanks Willow, I got the feeling Dwight felt double crossed but I was thinking why is he surprised - I forgot that Dwight doesn't know what happened at the junk yard.

naughtymutha · 21/03/2018 12:56

@Willow2017 Dwight is so going to get busted. You just know he can't jump back and forth on sides for much longer.

glowfrog · 21/03/2018 12:58

Well, my reading of what Simon said is that he did not in fact change his plan. It's just that in his mind "starting over" and "cutting their losses" means dropping the scare tactics and intimidation, which don't work, and just kill everyone.

Which is dumb because the whole idea is that each settlement can provide something the Saviours don't have in terms of supplies. And I don't know why the Hilltop is seen as the farmers because the Kingdom was the place where the watermelons were at...

I think it was quite clever writing, especially with Dwight. And maybe Simon is a mirror of Rick because I think Rick was talking about only looking after his own people yesterday? And that's what Simon is saying?

That weird Georgie woman has it bang on: it's all about trust. Someone has to make the first move in that direction. Simon is clearly not able to do that.

yumyumpoppycat · 21/03/2018 13:15

Good point Glow - I think Georgie is right the 'smarter' groups willing to work together will have to start winning out over the 'wolf' type packs eventually. I think Rick can't quite make up his mind whether to kill all the saviours to keep people safe or just make them surrender in the hope of better society - luckily Michone is remembering Carl's wishes. Interesting that it is women leaders coming out with a hopefully more peaceful vision of rebuilding society.

I guess it is true what you said about Negan, I don't think Simon actually wants to build a safe future he wants to take and move on, he has a limited amount of loyalty but does have some to his gang and wants to avenge them. Negan wants to be on top but has a bit more vision - he wants an empire. Rick just wants things to be safe and is torn on how to get there.

Do we know Negan's back story - was he normal before but traumatised by the events like the terminus group?

yumyumpoppycat · 21/03/2018 13:17

And actually trust is the key thing, as in theory they were all (hilltop, Alexandria etc) working with Negan before but couldn't trust him.

naughtymutha · 21/03/2018 13:20

I don't read the comics, but Negan's back story is within them. He sort of touched on his background when he was in the caravan with Gabriel when Gabriel was asking him to confess. I think he was married and although he loved his wife, he wasn't a good husband (infidelity). I think his wife died and her name was Lucille, but I'm not entirely sure.

yumyumpoppycat · 21/03/2018 13:29

Ah ok that is really interesting if his wife was Lucille. Capable of love but being destructive and untrustworthy with relationships does kind of fit with how he runs things.

Georgie is an interesting character. Unfortunately she's just screwed up her own peoples future - rule no.1 for the apocalypse is stay away from rick and his crew. Everything they touch turns to death & disaster. Her lovely clean look won't stay that way for long!

glowfrog · 21/03/2018 17:37

@MinorRSole hahaha - quite...

Yes, in the comic Negan had a wife called Lucille who I believe died from the initial outbreak. He was a gym teacher who was trying his best to mentor the boys he taught - that's all I remember.

MiddleClassProblem · 22/03/2018 09:46

It’s a stand alone comic called Here’s Negan. It goes from pre out break to starting The Saviours.

Plot is all here if you’re not one for buying the comics:

walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Here%27s_Negan

DispatchReady · 22/03/2018 20:08

I saw a trailer for this season that showed Negan's back story as a school gym instructor or something but we haven't seen that yet - wonder when that will be?

Snowjoker · 22/03/2018 20:36

Sadistic gym teacher shock

yumyumpoppycat · 22/03/2018 22:06

Ooh thanks middleclass I only read a few chapter summaries as don't want to spoil watching it - looking forward to when they show it. Gym teacher rings a bell now, I think I might have asked before Blush

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2018 22:15

The mumbling has reached new depths of inaudibility in this episode. I was quite relieved when the Meryl Streep look alike woman with the book of knowledge arrived. At last I could understand someone!

MiddleClassProblem · 22/03/2018 22:45

It’s nice to have a change of pace with the new peeps. Not all guns and confrontation, a bit like the original Alexandrians. It gets a bit much if everyone’s a twat. I still think they should come across some people who are just dressed amazingly with expensive jewellery etc because why not? Also a group of just children. Kids that have gone feral growing up in this world as orphans and have less of a conscious than adults or understanding of consequences/emotions relating to their actions iyswim. The artful dodger or the lost boys in the apocalyptic world.

glowfrog · 23/03/2018 11:05

I want to know what happened to the "gangbangers" from series 1, who turned out to be looking after the old folks in the care home. :-(

yumyumpoppycat · 23/03/2018 18:48

I can't properly remember the gangbangers - I think it's blurring with a comedy zombie movie where they rescue OAPs. I think it would be good for the writers and producers etc to rewatch season 1 and get back on track.

Middleclass the girl with all the gifts is a good zombiesque movie with children in it. I always thought I didn't like zombie movies but turns out I must do.

RiverSparkleFairy · 23/03/2018 21:04

Off subject slightly, but do any of you let your DCs watch TWD? If so, from what age?
I know someone whose 11yo daughter watches it Shock

MinorRSole · 23/03/2018 21:10

Ds watches it but he's 17. I personally wouldn't let an 11year old watch it as it's very graphic.

Snowjoker · 23/03/2018 21:29

I barely let myself watch it.
Totally unsuitable.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2018 21:31

Actually quite enjoyed this epidsode

Tho amazed that Rick didn’t manage to hit negan once with the billion bulets he’s fired

And shame Lucille didn’t kill negan via rick

And jadis now has negan

glowfrog · 23/03/2018 21:38

@RiverSparkleFerry my step-son started watching it when he was 13 or 14. Some kids are ready for that stuff sooner than others but 11 does seem quite young. I wouldn't be worried so much about the gross zombie stuff but rather the people on people violence.

glowfrog · 23/03/2018 21:38

Apparently the lighter Rick uses to light up Lucille was Glenn's!

RiverSparkleFairy · 24/03/2018 07:20

I know. And she started watching when she was 10. I said something to the mother back then, along the lines of 'do you know what's in it?!' And she just shrugged and said her DD watches it with her dad and they both enjoy it Sad
What I'll do the day this child starts telling my child about people slitting other people's throats over a trough, I don't know. Maybe that won't happen.
